fine until the boat
SnoopyStyle18 January 2024
Rose (Odeya Rush) is hesitant with her mother Alma (Saffron Burrows) introducing new boyfriend Derek Stipes (Eric Dane). He is taking them on a trip on his sailboat. One night, men board the boat looking for something. Rose is left struggling for her life.

Most importantly, Ray Liotta died while filming this. It's nothing to write home about. He's a creepy captain for a few minutes. This movie would be a lot better as a two person film. Rose and Derek have a good creepy relationship. I'm with this movie up until she leaves the island. The boat is all too unreal. She turns into Rambo and I don't see it.

Bonkers, but fun.
Sleepin_Dragon26 April 2024
Rose reluctantly joins mum Alma and her new boyfriend Derek on a boat holiday, but a tragic accident lands Rose in a desperate situation.

It's bonkers, it's one of those outrageously over the top movies, that's so wild, that it's hard not to enjoy. A story of revenge, a quite impossible to believe story of revenge and justice.

If you think Michael Myers of Halloween fame was hard to kill, he doesn't have anything on this dude, he's indestructible.

Reality exists in the early stages, but don't be lulled into thinking that this is a straight up thriller, it soon looses the plot, and verges on a kind of horror fantasy, but there is never a dull moment.

The ending is crazy, and came out of nowhere, but it definitely had me on the edge of my seat.

I get why some didn't like it, I thought it was fun.

6/10.

Not as bad as others make it out to be
lowerycj5 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I liked the movie. I thought it was entertaining and I never had that feeling that I was wasting my time. It kept me on the edge of my seat for the entire duration of the film, which is always a plus for me. Although the end could be seen as sort of unrealistic, but in the beginning of the movie, they did explain how she was a trained fighter. She also explained that that time on the boat, was not her first time shooting, so I able to let some of that go. During the few minutes Ray Liotta was on screen, he played the role of the evil Captain perfectly. I was so creeped out by him and his mannerisms. All in all, if this movie were on again, or someone wanted to watch it again, I wouldn't hesitate to, since it was entertaining enough and had all the good elements of a thriller movie that I love.

"TEEN BEAT" at Sea
harwood-6887628 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I'll try to make this painless!

Teenaged daughter accompanies mother ( Saffron Burrows) on a week long sailing excursion with mother's blind date. Sounds like a good idea, right? But something underhanded is going on, the teen suspects after finding the gentleman's assault styled gun tucked away beneath a berth. After a couple of excruciating days at sea while mother gets to know this mystery man in the biblical sense, his boat is attacked by another vessel. Things don't go well for the vacationers so daughter quickly hatches a plan worthy of a MI plot to get to the bottom of this devastating assault, using what she learned in a 2 minute lesson on gun safety and target practice, taught by Mom's date a day earlier. After the attack by thugs their vessel was in sinking disrepair. Teen, with her crafty plan in place, is rescued by a military styled tankard, crewed by some familiar faces responsible for the sailboat original attack. In an audacious scene you would think was written for comedy, after changing into a bimbo-ish outfit and tarting up her face with makeup, she sets about to seduce the captain (Ray Liotta)of the tankard. After several minutes of suggestive language and innuendo, it FINALLY occurs to the captain this little Lolita Mata Hari is trying to seduce him and responds as planned but she responds by knocking his lights out, before going after the rest of the motley crew with whatever weapons are conveniently within arm's reach and having remarkable success with her intended targets I must say!

Sure she takes a beating but remembering that introductory class from last summer in bare knuckle brawling, gets her successfully through the many moments she's required to defend herself. Along the way she discovers a cargo load of captive young women held for sex slavery. I take as the big reveal of the movie.

Dangerous Waters tried to be the Kill Bill movie for a younger generation and failed miserably. If this is what smells like teen spirit...

[5.8] Dominican blue

Warning: Spoilers
A mildly entertaining "thriller" movie where Rose is and acts like an inexperienced female mini Rambo ; though, she does have a little experience with fire guns that helps her very much, headshooting like a pro!, straight to the clavicles, adrenaline close-range shots to the abdomen. All that are not logical, but they are entertaining, "and" not mentioning her red shirt choke of Roberta would be a bad miss; how she subdued John is a valuable lesson all by itself.

On the other hand, "plastic surgeon" Eric Dane needs to get rid of himself of these B-grade or direct-to-video movies and break that vicious cycle started circa 8 years ago.

Dangerous waste of time, give me my $6.99 back.
MovieBuffcito6 November 2023
Dangerous Waters is a film that promises thrills but delivers a yawn-inducing journey instead. With a running time of 100 minutes, it feels like a long, tedious wait in a queue where the end point is just as unexciting as the wait itself. The dialogue is muddled and forgettable, while the characters lack any spark of genuine emotion, making it hard to care about their fates. Watching this movie is like listening to a recital of the phone book - monotonous and uninspiring. So consider this review a kind nudge to skip this flick and choose a more rewarding way to spend your time. And if you do end up watching it, may the odds of staying awake be ever in your favor!

It reminded me of a cheesy '90s thriller you sort of liked
SJGII8 May 2024
Perhaps it helped, but I was aware of the negative reviews before I watched Dangerous Waters. I almost expected a really bad movie. What I got was an enjoyable B grade of a film that was both messy and good throughout. Ray Liotta was barely in this, but I must say that I was still impressed by his performance. We truly lost a very talented artist because his intense glare will haunt me forever. I also liked Odeya Rush's performance as the resilient Rose. Rush can act and I think she did a good job with what she was given to work with. Sadly, I can't say the same for Eric Dane. That's not to say he was bad, but he could have been more convincing. It was as if he was trying too hard at times, and sometimes less is more. All in all, I liked this. It's not gonna get any Oscars, but I was entertained. RIP Ray Liotta.

One of the most ridiculous movies ever
xx-997051 March 2024
It's the story of a teenage girl who goes on a boat trip with her mom and moms boyfriend on a tiny boat. The mother gets killed by pirates and the dodgy boyfriend has something to do with it even though he gets shot too. The girl after that hardly cries and carries on as usual, doesn't even mourn her mother. Then the boyfriend isn't dead and she beats the cral out of him. Then she gets saved by a boat and kills everyone lol She's like the terminator, it is just so stupid seriously who wrote this? The acting is also ridiculously bad. Even high school movies are of better quality it's so stupid what have I just watched?

Slow moving unthriller
hoops-534365 February 2024
Wow. You could have left about 45 minutes of this crap on the cutting room floor. The story like was OK but it took FOREVER for anything to happen.

Odeya Rush was good in the lead. Too many unbelieveable things- things that would have killed any human in real life were just flesh wounds to the people the writers wanted to keep alive for later.

It's sad that Ray Liotta passed away during the filming but I have a feeling he wouldn't have been especially proud of this movie.

We stuck with it for the entire time but we are sure it would have been a much better movie had they cut out some of the boring nothing happening parts and tightened it up.

Entertaining
Give_JackheJacket25 February 2024
Quite entertaining with a good plot and a bit suspenseful. Too much smoking glamorized. Pleased that there were no over the top antics that are highly improbable. The scene was set for Rose's ability to shoot and fight, as these were casually mentioned earlier on. Killing the mother was too much heavy pathos; all films just don't let us escape melancholy, we must all feel sadness, reflective of real life, when films should offer a relaxing escape. Rose too was too depressed looking, although she had strength of character. Can't recall seeing any 'in memory of' or tribute to Ray Liotta at the end or beginning. If it wasn't, it should have been, even though he had a small part but was an impressive actor, RIP.

Really really bad
domialenic9 March 2024
What can I say ? Sometimes I wonder how people find the resources to waste on an absolute moronic film. This has nothing to do with budget limitations. The story and the acting were horrendous and truly unbelievable. It already started on the wrong footing when the car's starter motor refused to engage and the mother was tapping the windscreen wiper motor to get it going which it miraculously did so. It's not really an issue, but it wouldn't cost a lot of effort to at least get some of the details right. But that episode is representative for the whole film. Absolutely unbelievable. Even the 1 rating is too much.

Why? I Got Punked!!!
AuxiliaryDaPlug7 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
OMG this movie is DUMB! First off the mom takes her daughter out to sea with her boyfriend that her daughter Rose have never met! And the (Mom) gets shot and die, the boyfriend gets shot but lives. But before all that! While sailing at night Rose don't go to sleep cuz she's scared from boat and water sounds, straight up bad acting! She acts like she's 15 but she's much older. Now all of a sudden the boyfriend thinks Rose is cute 😲 A freaky floppy waterlogged movie. Smh! Rose wants to be the next up coming actress? No! And that goes for all three of em. Rose only cried for her mother when she's wrapped up in a blanket and fall out the boat! Oh I'm done speaking about this! If you seen it, then you know! If you haven't, then you'll see. 😂😂😂 Oh my... Hold up, last thing! It seems that it was a Puff Daddy party on the ship! Then Rose becomes a top-notch, special forces boat killer! I need a good movie to watch, but it seems that most are like this!

Eric Dane is just bad
swhitworth-905796 April 2024
The movie is so-so. I've certainly seen worse. But what I've not seen worse is Eric Dane's acting. I also saw him in The Ravine recently and he was equally bad. My wife says he was good in Grey's Anatomy but in my two experiences watching him in movies, well, he's just awful.

Odeyo is passable in her role as a teenager caught in difficult circumstances and I will definitely watch her in other films to see how her career progresses. Her character in this role, I think the writing left a little to be desired, but with what she had to work with I thought she did alright.

There is a lot of very slow speaking by actors. Made the movie drag on longer. All in all, probably better off finding something else to watch.

A Mediocre Dive into Dangerous Waters
vassiliskounelis22 January 2024
I recently watched "Dangerous Waters" (2023), and I must say that the film left me with mixed feelings. It started off with promise, piquing my interest with its intriguing premise. However, as the narrative unfolded, it hit a plateau, succumbing to a prolonged period of mediocrity. Just when it seemed like the story was treading water, it managed to regain some momentum towards the end, sparking my interest once again.

The overall experience was okay; it served its purpose as a way to pass the time, but it didn't offer anything exceptional. One glaring issue was the noticeable sag in the middle of the movie, creating a lull that tested my patience. Despite this, the film redeemed itself in the final act, injecting a renewed sense of excitement.

One standout aspect that deserves recognition is the lead actress's performance. I was thoroughly impressed by her portrayal, and I couldn't help but imagine how perfect she would be as Lara Croft in the reboot of the franchise. Her talent and charisma added a layer of enjoyment to an otherwise average movie.

In conclusion, "Dangerous Waters" is a passable cinematic experience that may entertain you for a couple of hours.

A force 3 of a film
Boristhemoggy28 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
As a sailor I was curious to see what this was about so I was fixed on the sailing aspects at first. But then the tension started to ramp up slowly.

Sadly, once Saffron Burrows was gone the rest of the cast failed to make the mark in terms of great acting, although out of all of them Odeya Rush and Ray Liotta did try. I suspect the problem was poor direction rather than lack of acting skills. Apart from Eric Dane (Derek) who clearly has zero acting skills.

The tension rose slowly until naked savagery was the order of the day and as the excitement ramped up, and the twists and turns went down many rabbit holes, Rush's character 'Rose' stepped up to the mark with her own innate savagery.

It was more than a leap of faith to imagine that Rose could do what she did, but it is an adventure film so I excuse that somewhat. In fact the film did have some real tense parts and definitely engaged me in the (silly) story. Production was also quite decent and at some point I stopped criticising things out of place or factually incorrect.

Of course the tiny Odeya Rush was unrealistically pitted against 6' 2", muscled to the hilt bad guys and she beat them all. But I guess putting aside her diminutive stature and teen age, it's nice to see another female action hero, despite the ridiculousness of her in the situation.

More of a TV film for a night in with a takeaway than anything else, but it gets a solid 5 from me for actually being not too bad.

Film Geeks, Enthusiasts & Creatives Who Understand Movie Making... READ ON!!
healy_p12 November 2023
I apologize if this review is a bit longer than I would even want to read, but there are a few aspects of this film that must be mentioned.

To start, for film geeks & creatives, this film is well shot from a cinematic standpoint and exemplifies up and comer director John Barr's cinematic background experience on large budget films. The tropical surroundings are a stark contrast to the woodsy winter haven of Barr's first film, Blood and Money starring Tom Berenger (which is another film accomplishment worth watching).

Second, the untimely passing of co-star Ray Liotta during filming in the Dominican Republic required last minute adjustments which resulted in a powerful (and psychopathic) short presence of Liotta whose performance reminded me of Brando's, Captain Kurt in Apocalypse Now.

Liotta's acting simply affects your pulse rate as you see him glaze over into the sociopath, The Captain, truly is!

The 7-8 short minutes are a testament to Liotta's acting ability & range!

Third, Eric Dane also transforms from Dr. Jekyll to Mr. Hyde in real time which was fun to watch (sorry for lack of spoiler alert).

The film waves slowly through an innocent boat trip into a intense cat and mouse thriller resembling the stark transition from the light hearted wedding scene in The Deer Hunter to the full fledge bloodied war scenes in Vietnam.

The film paces very well with Odeya Rush (Rose) leading the journey (which also makes this a fun film for the ladies).

The performances are solid across the board and casted well to absorb this tense and VERY dark story line.

It is only a matter of time when Barr will have the flexibility to shoot a movie with the budget as around the budget and it's impressive to watch Barr's movie making skills produce a film of this stature while managing the unfortunate loss of Ray Liotta during the shoot (I also read this was shot during COVID restrictions.... if movie making not hard enough....)

With the holidays around the corner and you are looking to be entertained for a few hours, grab a Irish Coffee for Blood and Money and a Pina Colada for Dangerous Waters and you are sure to fill a evening with two VERY contrasting movie experiences that has something to offer everyone watching (neither films are kid appropriate).

Enjoy.... I did!!!

PLEASE NOTE: For those who only know how to watch a movie and do not understand or appreciate all aspects of the craft... this may not be your cup of tea and another big budget Spiderman movie is surely around the corner for you to enjoy.

This is a solid 7 w/ 1 point granted to the tenacity to overcome the obstacles presented on this shoot and the enjoyable final product!

RIP- Ray Liotta.

Ray's last film... Eric you could have said NO
lilmsv22 January 2024
Despite the low score, I still wanted to see this film for 2 reasons it's Ray's last film (he was a good actor) and being a Grey's fan I'd not seen Eric in a film for a while... Not since his last film in the water Lol.

Anyway I didn't get to the end because I am SO done with these films that Blasphemes the Lord's Jesus name unnecessary, I get the situation my mean curse words are used BUT that was NOT needed, and he could have said SO MANY other words... So why Jesus **** Christ? Why not **** Allah? Or **** Buddha? Eric, you mean to tell me you couldn't say anything? I vote with my feet and have done so EVERY time this happens, I switch OFF or walk out, I'm not that desperate to spend my time on these kinds of films. And yeah, I believe in Jesus and will make a stand on Blaspheming.

WOWW poor until Ray scene and rose
sophieshomeofaroma22 February 2024
So here we go, Eric Dane and the last scene of Ray Liotta.

How can it be said that this was one of Ray Liotta's best scenes and his last.

My first ever film i saw with Ray Liotta as most was goodfellas. One of the best films ever, so to catogorise this film with good fellas even though not said is beyond a slane upon Ray Liotta, the film was putting it mildly rubbish, Rose was amazing, just a shame it was in a film like this, and with Eric Dane and Ray Liotta too. This was Rays last ever scene he did before passing. So sad he passed, i can watch goodfellas over and over again, such an amazing cast, some amazing scenes with Joe and Robert.

I wanna ask and this is why 1 reason i am asking as film critics will have noticed, naughty naughty if you didn't. When Rose killed the girl, did they notice her wrist movewhen dead, and then panned over her to notice her arms were not in the right position as should have only been one, check it out. Afew more, but just saying sad that Ray Liotta went out on a film like this, but i am not taking away his acting, because as always brilliant. Miss you Ray. May you R. I. P, and Eric Dane shame you were in this as thought of you as a decent actor too.

A Fun & Thrilling Ride On The High Seas!
pcasale-5736014 October 2023
"Dangerous Waters," written and directed by John Barr (Blood and Money) and starring Ray Liotta, Eric Dane, and Odaya Rush, is an exhilarating cinematic thrill ride on the high seas! The film's gripping storyline, combined with stellar performances by the cast, keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. Barr's direction shines through with breathtaking ocean and island sequences and intense suspense. Ray Liotta's (Goodfellas) portrayal of the Captain, in what would be his final performance in a film, is intense, powerful and moving, while Eric Dane (Grey's Anatomy and Euphoria) and Odaya Rush (Lady Bird) deliver exceptional performances that add depth to the narrative. Saffron Burrows adds depth and beauty to the story line.

The film's composer Zak McNeil, (Maleficent and Pirates of the Caribbean) adds to the beautiful cinematography. The soundtrack is also worth noting, featuring songs from Stick Figure, Collie Buddz and UB40.

This film's thrilling adventure, rich character development, and stunning cinematography make it a must-see, leaving you eagerly awaiting John Barr's next cinematic venture!

Dangerous waters
haileymorris-6037312 April 2024
Honestly, I think this is a great movie with a good storyline. I don't know why there are so many people giving it low ratings. I think it's a lot better than most of these movies that come out nowadays it has a flip in it that u don't expect and a great ending. Personally, I think this movie was a 10 out of 10 and I totally would recommend the movie starts off calm and then takes a drama/horror twist. I loved it, and I would definitely watch again goes to show you should not just always rely on reviews considering personally I think this is a pretty good movie and should have a way higher rating than what it does and the ending makes it even better.

Slow start but got better than expected
jeffjaynye18 April 2024
Looked like this was going to be average or worse, the first 20 minutes or so I wasn't sure, but then it got considerably better. The girl as the main character is actually a better actress than the veteran Saffron Burrows. Ray Liottas part was not bad, played a creepy captain and turns out he died while the film was still in production. Rest of the bad guys were mediocre including the BF of Saffron. Ending was a bit anticlimactic. Odeya Rush was the only really decent performance in the film and her fighting skills while a bit much, were still possible we just didn't get enough back story to show how tough she was before the trip. All in all I will watch it again, and like i said better than expected.
