A character that will be a series regular, Gross’ Daniel will be reunited with Abbie (whatever that means - maybe they were former lovers??) when he’s assigned to Sleepy Hollow. The Last Fall #1
Written by Tom Waltz

Published by Idw
The Last Fall is a war comic about one man, Sergeant Fall, and the losses that he’s experienced on the battlefield and at home because of the war. In the Lettya sysem, Krovin and Merkonia are at war while their shared star enters a red giant phase that will doom all of them. Krovin was formerly a poor planet that was colonized and exploited by Merkonia, and Merkonia needs its fuel reserves to escape the growing star. Krovin is fighting back to resist this, and a bloody stalemate has developed. This comic is off to a good start, with a nice balance between expository dialogue, character development, and action panels. Indeed, this is one of the stronger opening issue comics that I’ve seen in a while.

Titled Game Time Decision, Matthew Cherry's follow-up to his feature film debut, The Last Fall (now streaming on Netflix) has attracted the acting talents of Isaiah Washington, who will star as a retired football player suffering from the effects of concussions sustained during his professional career, as he tries to reconnect with his estranged family, especially a son following in his father's footsteps, in danger of a similar kind of future. Like The Last Fall, the very topical Game Time Decision is a family drama set against a pro-sports backdrop, reflecting Cherry's own real-life interests as a former NFL wide receiver - the goal of the film being to highlight...

Just recently, we heard that director Ridley Scott was developing a drama about the seemingly ignored issue of concussions and mental illnesses resulting from football play in the professional sports world (though it's an issue in college and high school as well). Now Deadline has word that Isaiah Washington, coming off last year's dark but stirring turn in the Sundance selected indie sniper drama Blue Caprice, will lead a film called Game Time Decision, an indie from writer and director Matthew A. Cherry (The Last Fall). This film will also take a look at the issue in the world of professional football as opposed to the lower levels. In the film, Washington will play a retired professional football player suffering from a degenerative brain disease who attempts to reconnect with his estranged son to warn him about returning to play a game too soon after sustaining a concussion. The story...

Coming off an acclaimed turn in "Blue Caprice," actor Isaiah Washington is set to star in and executive produce the indie drama "Game Time Decision".
Former NFL wide receiver Matthew A. Cherry ("The Last Fall") penned and will direct the picture which deals with concussion-related injuries in professional football players, specifically Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy.
Washington will play a retired professional football player suffering from a degenerative brain disease who attempts to reconnect with his estranged son to warn him about returning to play a game too soon after sustaining a concussion.
Shooting aims to begin next spring. The project announcement comes after last week's news that Ridley Scott is developing a film about the same issue and is currently interviewing writers for the project.

Look out fairy tales, young adult novels and toys — it looks like the hot new material around town is football head injury dramas. Wait, what? Well, it certainly seems that way with reports hitting last week that Ridley Scott was starting development on a drama out the health crisis in the sport. But considering that project might not even get made, given Scott's plethora of things to choose from at any moment, it's not a shock another movie is going to tackle the subject first. Deadline reports that Isaiah Washington, coming off the underrated Beltway Sniper drama "Blue Caprice" (seriously, track it down, it's gripping stuff), will star in an untitled movie about concussions and head injuries in football. The film is from writer/director Matthew A. Cherry who knows his way around the gridiron, not only as a former wide receiver, but as also having helmed the football drama "The Last Fall" previously.

Exclusive: Isaiah Washington wants to follow his Blue Caprice turn as Beltway Sniper John Allen Muhammad by starring in Game Time Decision, an indie film by writer/director Matthew A. Cherry (The Last Fall) that tackles the provocative topic of concussion-related injuries in professional football players. Washington will be an executive producer on the film. They plan to start production next spring. Washington will play a retired professional football player suffering from a degenerative brain disease who attempts to reconnect with his estranged son to warn him about returning to play a game too soon after sustaining a concussion. Cherry is a former NFL wide receiver, and he and Washington want to highlight Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy, a condition which unfortunately is growing more prominent with the failing health and suicides of former gridiron greats. Just last week I revealed that Ridley Scott and Giannina Facio are interviewing A-list writers to...

The new fall season is closer than you think, and NBC has released their full schedule. Apart from reality favorites The Biggest Loser and The Voice, they are mixing things up quite a bit.
Take a look at a complete preview of the shows coming your way, and mark your calendars. It looks good for NBC this year, and while I’m not sure all of these look like winners, I think you’ll find at least a couple that you’re really going to like.

The Last Fall opens with a rather depressing figure about the prospects of NFL players once they leave the game, but its ultimate message is one of hope. Taking several cues from The Wrestler, Fall imagines a player (Lance Gross) returning to his home after several years in the game, and finding out just how little his time in the big leagues really means once he's out of it. Unlike that film, though, this allows for a peaceful exit that is never particularly harrowing, but in a pop landscape seemingly dominated by oppressive gloominess, it's a surprisingly welcome addition.

Factory’s Collector’s Edition Blu-ray that hit stores this past Tuesday. One of the director’s finest films, They Live gets the royal treatment with an audio commentary, a new interview with Carpenter, and a fantastic transfer that helps the film look better than it ever has before. While there are still not enough good roles for women out there, particularly in mainstream Hollywood, that hasn't stopped a batch of young female stars from exploding from out of nowhere in recent years. Head-turning performances have helped launch faces like Carey Mulligan, Mia Wasikowska, Emma Stone, Jennifer Lawrence, Felicity Jones and many others into the stratosphere, and the success last weekend of "The Hunger Games" has hopefully put to rest the fallacy that huge audiences won't turn up to big movies carried by a woman.
With that in mind, and hot on the heels of our ten picks for actors on the rise yesterday, we've chosen ten actresses who, while yet to be household names, have wowed audiences and casting directors in recent years, and look like strong contenders to headline the big movies of the future. Now he is bringing his first feature "The Last Fall" to this year's South by Southwest Film Festival. What It's About: "The Last Fall" is a sports romantic drama film about life after ball. It's about the difficulties many football players have when trying to transition into life in the real world once they have retired broke and many times at very young ages. Says director Matthew A. With Sundance 2012 Film Festival over, the next big one on the horizon is South by Southwest, which we’ll be heavily covering. The biggest chunk of the line-up has been announced today, which has some great premieres including 21 Jump Street, Tiff and Sundance hit The Raid, Will Ferrell‘s Casa de mi Padre, the documentary Girl Model (which we liked at Tiff), as well as the next from Broken Lizard, The Babymakers. There are many other promising titles included and you can see them all below. Check back for our coverage for the fest, kicking off March 9th.

Attendees of South by Southwest 2012 are in for a treat. 130 feature films will screen at the Austin, Texas festival taking place March 9-17. Among them are 65 World Premieres, 17 North American Premieres and 10 U.S. Premieres. The organization already announced [1] Drew Goddard and Joss Whedon's The Cabin in the Woods would open the festival (the movie is phenomenal [2]) and today the majority of the remaining line up has been revealed. One of the highlights is the unbelievably smart and hilarious 21 Jump Street, directed by Phil Lord & Christopher Miller. Both of those are World Premieres. Other highlights include The Hunter, Killer Joe, The Babymakers, frankie goes boom, God Bless America, The Imposter, The Raid, Bernie and Casa de mi Padre just to name a few. After the jump, read descriptions of all the films that have been announced so far. Before I copy and paste the rest of the list, a few minor notes.

Kurt here. Considering the overall deficit of good roles for great black actresses (an issue to which this site is no stranger), moviegoers really can't be too hard on Nicole Beharie for offering them such rare and infrequent peeks at her remarkable talent. Still, watching those peeks (and they're watchable indeed), it's easy to send "grrrs" in this petite, 26-year-old beauty's direction, as she's thus far only appeared in five movies, two of them not even on the big screen. Why must she deprive us so? Her phone has to at least be ringing a little bit, and it can't just be about her selectivity, as the titles she's appeared in, on the whole, aren't exactly of the street-cred variety. So, what, then, has she been doing?
Quite a lot, as it turns out. My first exposure to Beharie was in early 2009, in a little film called American Violet, which...
