Beautiful, intimate window to history, gov't injustice, family, & emotional hurtles that remain.

Wow, such an intimate window to life in those times. I was moved to tears many times, such a genuine perspective and courageous story. Incredible struggles and perseverance! Then when you look at the real mother and daughter and listen to their current relationship, it's moving. I'm sure many mother daughter relationships worldwide relate to pieces of this story. The emotional pull throughout this film really spoke to me and educated me in all the best ways. Just shared this with a bunch of friends, I feel like many people would gain a new appreciation and respect for life in general by watching this film.

What a beautiful film. In addition to providing a deep look at the relationship between a mother and daughter, the movie served as a history lesson on the Chinese Cultural Revolution. I couldn't help but draw certain parallels to the current events of 2020 and what happens when you are caught on the wrong side of a revolution.

A first person journey into the recent past of modern China and the devastating effect communism had on ordinary people.
