"The films that I want to do should be a path-breaking cinema. It should be something new to offer to the audience. The industry is so huge but the kind of films are being made..." said Rajeev.
"People tell me you are on the right path and stick to that. That's a huge compliment for me. I don't want to do films with the budget of Rs.50 or Rs.100 crore. I want to be focused. 'Soundtrack' was a great film. It didn't work...it was not promoted well," he added.

S. Hussain Zaidi is a Mumbai based investigative crime journalist, who has worked for some of India’s leading newspapers. One of his previous best selling books was Black Friday, which Anurag Kashyap successfully transformed onto screen. His most recent book is Dongri to Dubai: Six decades of the Mumbai Mafia and from this book has Shootout at Wadala been created. Sanjay Gupta says without it he could not have made this film, Anil Kapoor called it by far the best book on the Mumbai mafia and John Abraham hailed Zaidi as a master storyteller. If you have not had a chance to read the book, take it from us, it is an absolutely amazing book and having read the book recently, our expectations are sky high for the film. Further, Sanjay Gupta is back after a long hiatus and John Abraham attempts the role of gangster for the first time.

The last 30 minutes of this gripping thriller has a life of its own. In fact the end-game is so stunning and so overpowering in its message that it makes us overlook the ingrained improbability of the rest of the film.
Not that Table No 21 (and wait till you figure out why and how the film gets its title!) doesn’t work in its totality. It does. It’s a surprisingly good almost-kickass way to start your movie-going in 2013. A goodlooking original thriller shot in eye-catching Fiji, Table No 21 opens with a rather ambitious starry-eyed couple landing in Fiji to spend a prize holiday in the lap of luxury.
Director Aditya Dutta gets the tonality of the ‘Good Life’ right. The narrative then weaves itself into a rather bewildering and bizarre labyrinth that is a partly a tongue-in-cheek tribute to...

He made his debut in the critically acclaimed 2008 film Aamir and since then Rajeev Khandelwal has gone on to give outstanding performances in art house films like Shaitan and Soundtrack. The actor is most definitely drawn to the more Indie type films and with each new performance, Khandelwal challenges himself and takes on roles that are most definitely not your chocolate boy hero. For example, in Soundtrack, he played a DJ who was going deaf – the story was classical composer Beethoven’s story 2011 style. The actor once again digs deep, but in a different way, to play Vivaan in Aditya Datt’s Table No. 21. The actor says that this is not a character that is a mess like many of his other roles, but someone who has many layers and was a difficult role to play. A thriller at its core, the film also stars Tena Desai as well as...

Shah Rukh Khan, Vidya Balan – What do these names have in common? Apart from being superstars of the day, both Srk and Vidya made their acting debut in television slowly moving on to enthrall the silver screen audience. Inspired by the tales of the likes of Srk and Vidya, every year many TV stars attempt to shift gears to the big screen with the hope of repeating the success stories. Some get lucky; some others either vanish or return back to the small screen. The Friday gone-by; saw the release of Bittoo Boss, which introduced newbie Pulkit Samrat. If the name sounds vaguely familiar, it is because Pulkit played the much-loved role of Lakshya Virani, in Indian Soap Opera ‘Kyunki Saas bhi Kabhi Bahu thi’, Indian televisions second longest running and most popular show. While the verdict on Pulkit’s journey from small screen to 70mm remains to be decided,...

1. Pyaar Ka Punchnama: The year’s sleeper success that kept us awake for a good 2 hours with its celluloid anthem of ribtickling misogyny. Three room-mates and their troubled love relationships formed the core of the comic conflict. Every character and each episode spilled over with a delightful déjà vu. Debutant director Luv Ranjan managed a 3-guys-in-a-sexist-soup comedy much better than Madhur Bhandarkar in Dil To Bachcha Hai Ji. And the director did it with untried actors. Kartik Tiwari(who is now doing the same director’s nextSaathi) and Divyendu Sharma(who is in David Dhawan’s Chashme Buddoor) were among the best discoveries of the year.We luv you,Luv, for bringing push to shove without tripping over.

2011 has been all about variety. A run-of-the-mill, do it by the numbers soundtrack just won’t cut it anymore, not with an abundance of fresh talent injecting life and creativity into the industry, and pushing the veterans to try harder.

In a year that boasted some huge family friendly blockbusters and multiple films from some of the biggest stars, it was pretty easy for smaller films with tiny budgets, no big name stars or controversial subjects to fly a little under the radar. Here are ten of the best films that may have been appreciated by the critics, but failed to catch fire at the box office.
10. Soundtrack
Based on British “mockumentary” It’s All Gone Pete Tong, Soundtrack takes a premise that was a source of humour in the original film – a superstar DJ going deaf – and turns it into a touching, surprisingly subtly handled story of a man overcoming his demons and his disability. With a fantastic soundtrack (naturally!), as well as some inventive storytelling, Soundtrack has sex, drugs and rock’n'roll covered, as well as a compelling performance in the lead role from Rajeev Khandelwal.

For his own big screen debut, 'Aamir', Rajeev worked under the direction of first timer Rajkumar Gupta. Even his second film 'Shaitan' was directed by newcomer Bejoy Nambiar, while his last release 'Soundtrack' was helmed by debutant Neerav Ghosh.
'As far as newcomers are concerned, I invest in someone who has the knowledge of filmmaking, someone who has a great script and content to offer,' Rajeev told.

Excessive self-indulgence is dumb. It can also make you deaf. So says the film's well-crafted screenplay. The message is driven home with a refreshing absence of self importance.

Beethoven said, “I am not satisfied with the work I have done so far. From now on I intend to take a new way.” If only Bollywood followed this mantra, then we would surely have more amazing and different movies and better performances. After co-producing the well-received Chalo Dilli, Mahesh Bhupathi has now moved on. His next production will be an independent production and that too with Raveena Tandon in the lead. The comedy that Bhupathi will produce with Raveena in the lead is being described as a "Delhi Belly without the expletives but still with the anything-goes mood speed and dialogues." The film goes on the floors later this year and will be directed by Neerav Ghosh whose debut film Soundtrack featuring Rajeev Khandelwal as a deaf DJ, is on release. Neerav's film that Bhupathi has asked Raveena to do is an absolute antithesis. Says a source, "Mahesh has known Raveena for the longest. When he read Neerav Ghosh's script he fell in love with it. It's madcap zany crime caper comedy and requires a housewife as its main protagonist. Mahesh and his director thought Raveena was perfect for the part.

Mumbai, Oct 1: The release of 'Soundtrack' was postponed from Sep 30 to Oct 7 because of lead actor Soha Ali Khan's father Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi passing away and not due to too many films releasing that day, the film's director Neerav Ghosh has revealed.
It has been a tough fortnight for Soha. She was in the middle of promoting her new film when her father had to be hospitalised. Bravely, the daughter continued with her nationwide promotion.
And then the worst happened. Soha's father passed away, leaving her too broken to even think of the film.
The film's producer Saregama and director Neerav Ghosh had two.

Rajeev Khandelwal is soon to star in Neerav Ghosh’s Soundtrack. His debut film Aamir had been a box-office hit even without a heroine. He had last appeared in Shaitan. In an interview he speaks regarding his choice of movies.
When asked why he often chose low budget films he replied, “Budgets don't make films big or small, neither do they make them good or bad. A huge budget may increase a film's visibility, but it cannot change the content! It's the quality of script that lures me to a film.”

Rajeev Khandelwal has revealed that his latest role was inspired by the villain Two-Face in The Dark Knight Rises. Soundtrack sees the actor playing a DJ with tinnitus whose meteoric rise to fame fuels his drink and drug problem. Khandelwal told Hindustan Times: "My character battles his dark side, just as Two-Face does. The end of September is full of films and one of the more off beat ones but very intriguing is Soundtrack. Based on a true story, Soundtrack is the official remake of It’s All Gone Pete Tong. Starring Rajeev Khandelwal, Soha Ali Khan, and Mrinalini Sharma it tells the story of the rise of a young man to be a famous DJ. He has fame and fortune, but what happens when he can no longer hear the music?
Of course it being about DJs and music, the soundtrack is very important to the film. We loved the Ost and ‘Ek Manzil’ according to our reviewer is one of the best on the album, “From the opening strums on the cello, ‘Ek Manzil’ definitely becomes a favourite on this album. The composition mixes the classical instruments with the thumping drums and gritty garage guitar to create such a perfect and harmonious sound.
