- The nine remaining teams travel from Macau, China to Waterford, South Africa, where they have to scale great heights to face their greatest fears. One team embraces the African traditions, while another team falls foul of the law.
- During the rest period, the nine teams are moved from the A Ma Cultural Village to the ruins of St. Pauls. As the first team to arrive at the last Pit Stop, married entrepeneurs Richard & Joey are the first team to depart. They open up their clue and discover that they have to fly to Port Elizabeth, South Africa. Once they reach the airport, they will have to search the car park for marked vehicles, and on the dash of these vehicles, they will find their next clue. Their lead of more than three hours on the next team, which they gained as winners of the Fast Forward, allows them to catch a flight from Macau to Johannesburg via Bangkok, while the eight other teams catch a later flight from Hong Kong to Johannesburg via Bangkok, among them Muslim friends Mo & Mos who had a longer rest period as a result of the balance of their penalty time from failing to complete the Road Block on the last leg being added to their departure time, which put them five hours behind models Sam & Renae, who were only spared a penalty themselves because they elected to use their Express Pass to skip that task. All of the differences in departure times count for nothing, however, when all nine teams find themselves on the same flight for the final leg from Johannesburg to Port Elizabeth.
Once the plane lands in Port Elizabeth, there is a mad scramble by all of the teams to find the cars. When they do, the next clue tells the teams to drive themselves more then 300 kilometres to Camdeboo National Park and find the Valley of Desolation, where they will receive their next clue. Sisters Alana & Mel struggle with the manual transmission in their car, while surfers Tyler & Nathan are first to arrive at the Valley of Desolation, where they find a Detour that offers the choices of Smash or Bash. Teams choosing Smash have to drive to the Kragga Kamma Game Park, back on the outskirts of Port Elizabeth, where they must use a knobkierie, a traditional African weapon, to break four hanging vases in order to receive their next clue. Teams choosing Bash also have to drive to Kragga Kamma Game Park, where they must use the tools and materials provided there to build a giraffe feeder. Once the park ranger was satisfied with they way they had assembled it, he would hand them their next clue.
All nine teams drive their vehicles back toward Port Elizabeth, but when they reach the game park, they find a sign that says that the park won't open until 7am the following morning. They spend the night in their vehicles, then travel close to each other after the park opens. Richard & Joey are at the front of the line, which is not the best option to take if the terrain is grassy and muddy, as they find out when they don't quite eye a muddy crossing correctly and get stuck. The remaining teams look on and laugh as they get out of their vehichle and try to unstick themselves, although the laughing soon stops from dating couple Anastasia & Chris when they try to find their own way through the crossing, only to also get stuck themselves.
Surfers Tyler & Nathan move a couple of branches and then try to negotiate the crossing quicker than the other two teams, passing in between the two stuck vehicles. For a while, it looks as though they too are going to get stuck, but they find enough traction in the grass to make it through the crossing and up the other side, allowing them to continue their journey. Sam & Renae follow Tyler & Nathan's path just as Anastasia & Chris get unstuck, and the other five teams speed forward leaving Richard & Joey alone and still stranded.
When the other teams park their vehicles and make their choices about what Detour task to perform, Tyler & Nathan, farmers Matt & Tom, Mo & Mos and father and son Jeff & Luke try their luck with smashing vases, while Anastasia & Chris, Alana & Mel and Sam & Renae build giraffe feeders. Matt & Tom are the first team to complete their Detour task, followed soon after by Tyler & Nathan. When they receive their next clue, they find themselves at the Road Block. For this Road Block, teams head to Bloukrans Bridge where one person has to perform a 216 metre bungee jump, the largest in the world, before they receive their next clue. The Road Block clue ends with the note "Caution: U-Turn ahead". A U-Turn is placed at the end of some Detours and allows one team to slow another team's progress by forcing them to do the other Detour task, but teams can only exercise their power to U-Turn another team once for the entire race.
Mo & Mos and Jeff & Luke don't have as much success at hitting the vases as Tyler & Nathan and Matt & Tom, so they decide to switch tasks and set to work building giraffe feeders. Matt & Tom choose not to U-Turn any of the teams, but Tyler & Nathan U-Turn Richard & Joey. Anastasia & Chris, married bikers Dave & Kelly and Sam & Renae are the first teams to complete the Bash task. Richard & Joey finally break free and arrive at the point where they have to choose between the Detour tasks, and decide to build a giraffe feeder, completing the task ahead of the two teams who switched, Mo & Mos and Jeff & Luke. They are surprised in some ways, but not in others, when they find that they have been U-Turned, forcing them to have a shot at the vases.
En route to the Road Block, Matt & Tom are pulled over by the local police, who tell them that they have received complaints about some cars driving too fast on the highway. They are let off with a caution and told to enjoy their stay in South Africa. This minor delay allows Tyler & Nathan and Anastasia & Chris to get to the Road Block first, with Nathan and Chris making the jump for their respective teams. They then open their next clue and are directed to make their way to the village of Nomathamsanqa where they must collect a goat from the marked pen and deliver it to a sangoma, a local witch doctor, who will hand them their next clue. Matt & Tom are the next to reach the Road Block.
Richard & Joey battle their frustration of being U-Turned, but they finally complete the other Detour task and head towards Bloukrans Bridge, while Nathan & Tyler and Matt & Tom are already dragging the goats that they collected along the village roads, with the farmers getting ahead of Anastasia & Chris and closing in on the surfers during the task. They find the sangoma and open their next clue, which tells them to make their way to the Pit Stop at the Addo Elephant National Park. Matt & Tom stay neck and neck with Tyler & Nathan on the road to the Pit Stop, and just edge them out in the final sprint towards the mat and host Grant Bowler, who tells them that as the winners of this leg of the race, they have won a A$5,000 shopping spree at Kathmandu outdoor equipment and clothing stores. Anastasia & Chris have a little dance with the locals on their way to a third place finish, and when Jeff & Luke realise that their goat is pregnant, they feel bad about dragging her and so carry her the rest of the way to the sangoma, before they are the fourth team to be checked in, while Sam & Renae and Dave & Kelly both have uneventful finishes in fifth and sixth.
After jumping off the Bloukrans Bridge, Richard & Joey catch up to Alana & Mel and Mo & Mos. At the goat task, Mel accidentally fingers their goat's bottom, but the sisters pull away and finish in seventh, while Richard & Joey have trouble with their goat, which stays put until Joey yells at it, when it finally decides to run. In the final race to the Pit Stop, Mo & Mos finish in eighth, making Richard & Joey the last team to arrive, and the team who receives the news from Grant that they have been eliminated from the race.
