This film is not a big budget blockbuster. Wasn't meant to be. But, it entertains in a few key ways. First, the real piano genius Bruno Hubert plays a fictionalized version of himself. He is entertaining to watch especially when juxtaposed against drummer friend Bill Campbell, who puts on a very decent acting display. Bill is funny and made me laugh a bunch of times, as did a number of silly scenes like the cameo by Capilano College instructor and old Bruno mentor Rejean Marois.

Secondly, this film captures numerous live and private jam session performances by Bruno on piano and Fender Rhodes. These are priceless captures of a Canadian jazz legend.

Thirdly, there are also great musical performances and appearances by other Canadian jazz personalities such as Mike Allen, Brad Turner, Cory Weeds and Denzal Sinclaire.

Additionally, Director Michael Simard did a decent job of capturing some of the enigma that is Bruno's Hubert with a humorous treatment, which makes sense.

So, for me, this is a great film to enjoy for many reason other than production values.

Enjoy!
