The announcement comes after her divorce from artist and filmmaker Daryl Wein, who she was married to from 2013 to 2022.
Her Slip series was nominated for an award at the Spirit Awards, and she spoke about the show’s gender-neutral acting categories.

Ali Wong won the award for best performance in a new scripted series at the 2024 Film Independent Spirit Awards for her role in Netflix’s Beef, which also won the prize for best new scripted series.
While accepting her first-ever Spirit Award, Wong thanked her co-star Steven Yeun, who was also nominated in the gender-neutral category, as well as the series’ creator Lee Sung Jin and executive producer Jake Schreier. “I wouldn’t be here without you. “American Fiction,” “May December” and “Past Lives” shared the spotlight with five nominations apiece to lead the 2024 Film Independent Spirit Awards announced Tuesday. The trio all landed bids for Best Feature along with “Passages,” “All of Us Strangers” and “We Grown Now.”

“American Fiction,” “May December” and “Past Lives” dominated the 2024 Independent Spirit Awards nominations on Tuesday, picking up five nods apiece. The three movies are all up for best feature, where they will battle it out against “All of Us Strangers,” “Passages” and “We Grown Now.”
The annual honors recognize the best of television, as well as film. “The Last of Us,” a sci-fi epic that was a ratings hit for HBO, and “I’m a Virgo,” an absurdist miniseries from Boots Riley that was produced by Amazon, led the small screen crop, with four nominations each. Only new TV shows that have run for one season and were released between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31 of this year are eligible for awards. That’s why some big-budgeted fare was deemed eligible or, in the parlance of the show, independent.

R.I.P. Quibi, again.
It seems even the Roku Channel is not free from The Great Streaming Purge of the 2020s. According to a report in Variety, over 35 notable Roku Original shows are to be removed from the streaming service sometime in the near future. This comes after multiple other services have removed shows and movies, many of them high-profile releases, from their feeds in order to cut costs. HBO Max — now merely Max — infamously removed a lot of their original films back in August of 2022, while multiple TV shows and movies were taken off of Hulu and Disney+ in May of 2023 for similar reasons. One might assume that a free, ad-supported service like the Roku Channel would be free from the caprices of the streaming market, but that is not so. The line of Roku Originals will be brought to an end.
Roku Originals, some may recall, were not Roku originals.

“Most Dangerous Game” and the Zoe-Lister-Jones-led “Slip” are among a handful of existing licensed and produced shows being removed by Roku. The company also plans to lay off staff. Roku is the latest streamer to purge content from its platform to cut costs, following similar moves by Warner Bros. Discovery’s Max, Disney and AMC Networks.
The Christoph Waltz and Liam Hemsworth-led “Most Dangerous Game,” originally created for Quibi by Nick Santora, earned two Emmy nominations for its first season. Roku renewed the action thriller for a second season, which premiered in March.
“Critically acclaimed, heartfelt, hilarious, and completely unique, ‘Slip’ has only begun to spark the imaginations and bend the minds of audiences around the world,” Boat Rocker Media co-executive chairman Ivan Schneeberg and David Fortier told TheWrap. We’ve seen multiple streaming companies remove titles from their service over the last year in a bid to save money, and Deadline has reported that Roku has joined them. The outlet reports that Roku has begun removing a handful of titles from their service, including Most Dangerous Game starring Christoph Waltz.
Most Dangerous Game began life as a Quibi Original (remember that mess?) before it was salvaged by Roku, who renewed the series for a second season. After learning that he will soon die from a terminal illness and desperate to provide for his pregnant wife, Dodge Maynard (Liam Hemsworth) accepts an invitation from a mysterious man (Christoph Waltz) to participate in a deadly game of survival. Each hour Dodge survives will earn him more money, for a total of $24.5 million if he survives the full 24 hours.

Exclusive: Roku has begun removing titles including scripted shows Most Dangerous Game starring Christoph Waltz and Slip from Zoe Lister-Jones.
It is the latest streamer to remove titles from its service following similar moves by Paramount+, Disney+, Warner Bros. Discovery’s Max and AMC Networks.
Roku revealed yesterday that it was set to remove some content as part of a cost-cutting drive that also saw around 300 employees laid off. It said that it would take a hit of between $55M-$65M for removing “select existing licensed and produced content from company-operated services on its TV streaming platform”.
The company will, however, continue to order original series and sources note that this process is part of its regular review of programming.

There could be a future in which AMC Networks bundles all of its brands into one streaming service. Executive vice president and chief financial officer Patrick O’Connell talked about the possibility on Wednesday during the Gabelli Funds 15th Annual Media and Entertainment Symposium.
Over the past several months, more and more companies have consolidated their streaming platforms. HBO Max and Discovery+ merged to form Max; Showtime and Paramount+ are combining later this month thanks to Paramount+ with Showtime; and Disney has announced it wants to combine Hulu and Disney+ into a single all-in-one platform. O’Connell noted that this combination strategy doesn’t currently make sense for AMC Networks, but it could in the future.
“We think all our brands stand stand alone, right? They target specific audiences. They’re designed to super serve those audiences,” O’Connell said. “That being said, we think it probably does make sense over time to sort of self-bundle,...

Zoe Lister-Jones’ new Roku series, “Slip,” has taken the fascination with metaverses to a whole new dimension — courtesy of a few Earth-moving orgasms that take her out of this world. Literally.
“Slip” centers on Lister-Jones’ character, Mae Cannon, whose life is “a super banal dream where nothing really happens” and the excitement happens when she is dreaming. Or is her dream world reality?
“You just need to wake up, but then you realize there’s nothing to wake up from because the dream is occurring while you’re awake, sleeping to find meaning and waking to lose it,” she says at the start of the Roku series. “And all you wanna do is sleep to dream of something more.”

This article contains spoilers for all seven episodes of Slip.
Zoe Lister-Jones’ seven-part series Slip on Roku Channel opens with a pretty average status quo before things take a wild turn. Mae (Lister-Jones) is an art curator at a local museum and is happily married to her gentle husband Elijah (Whitmer Thomas). Well, sort of. She’s a little bored in their marriage that seems to run on an underwhelmingly repetitious cycle every day — making the couple more and more distant.
However, the plot takes a universe-bending turn after Mae goes out to drink after a successful art exhibition that celebrates Buddhist cosmology and its other-worldly creature, the Hungry Ghost. Her best friend Gina (Tymika Tafari) tags along as they go to a local bar across the street (although she’s busy trying to seduce a monk who attended the exhibit), where Mae hooks up with an attractive musician called...

Roku's Slip may present as a comedic story about a woman traveling to different dimensions through orgasms, but at its core, it's an exploration of female desire. Starring and created by Zoe Lister-Jones (Life in Pieces), Slip centers on Mae Cannon, a museum curator who has become restless in her 13-year-marriage to her soft-spoken college sweetheart, Elijah (Whitmer Thomas). When Mae reaches her breaking point and hooks up with a sexy musician (Amar Chadha-Patel), she wakes up in a parallel universe in which she's married to him — and just as dissatisfied with the way her life has turned out. As Mae enters new relationships in different worlds, she searches for a way back to Elijah, her "original" life, and her true self.

The multiverse? So hot right now.
Theories surrounding alternate universes have existed in some form or another since the days of pre-Socratic Greek philosopher Anaximander in the sixth century Bce. Recently, however, popular culture has realized the full storytelling potential of infinite worlds in grand fashion. Adult Swim’s Rick and Morty arguably brought the age-old concept to the mainstream. Then Marvel Studios kicked off its own Multiverse Saga with phases 4 through 6 of the long-running franchise. Most recently, the multiverse-friendly Everything Everywhere All At Once won seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture.
While the multiverse is very much in right now, there is an important element that most, if not all, of these multiverse projects are missing. And that’s something that actress and filmmaker Zoe Lister-Jones is hoping to rectify with her new Roku Channel series Slip.

Hulu’s snarky historical dramedy “The Great” is set to debut its third season on May 12, with all 10 episodes available for streaming at once. The show is loosely based on Russia’s Catherine the Great (played by Elle Fanning) and her husband Peter (Nicholas Hoult), who are now trying to make their marriage work — though Catherine’s progressive attitudes are often at odds with her reactionary country.

Many fans and critics agree that Resident Evil 4 Remake is a nearly perfect game. The remake improves the original’s controls and mechanics, and, unlike its enjoyably campy source material, Resident Evil 4 Remake is also pretty scary. However, some gamers are displeased with one of the title’s voice actors, and they’ve decided to take it out on her in some despicable ways.
Small spoiler alert: Resident Evil 4 Remake still includes the Resident Evil franchise’s femme fatale of mystery Ada Wong. This time, though, she has traded in her cocktail dress for something more suited to sneaking around a village infested with parasite-infested zombies. Ada Wong is also played by another voice actress. Actually, not counting spin-offs and cameos, Ada Wong is on her fourth actress. Originally, Sally Cahill played Ada Wong, but Courtenay Taylor replaced her for Resident Evil 6. When Capcom remade Resident Evil 2,...

Paul McCartney said one of his and Wings’ songs has what they liked to call a “Floydian slip.” Wings’ guitarist Jimmy McCulloch did such a great job on the song’s guitar solo it reminded the former Beatle of another famous guitarist’s work.

In his book The Lyrics: 1956 to the Present, Paul wrote that one of his and Wings’ songs, “The Note You Never Wrote,” has a “Floydian slip.”
The band’s guitarist, Jimmy McCulloch, did an amazing guitar solo on the tune. Paul thought it was reminiscent of Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour. “The arrangement as a whole is kind of dreamy and Floydian,” Paul wrote. “It’s what we call a ‘Floydian slip.'”
Paul greatly admired Pink Floyd. He said they made some great records in the 1970s.

"I'm being transported to other dimensions every time I orgasm." Roku has revealed the official trailer for an upcoming mini-series titled Slip, the latest creation from actress / director Zoe Lister-Jones. She got into directing with two indie films, Band Aid and How It Ends, and this series looks like it was a film idea that she adapted into content for Roku since they are funding it. Premiering at the 2023 SXSW Film Festival before it's streaming via Roku in April. Restless in her marriage, Slip — starring Zoe Lister-Jones — follows Mae through a surreal journey of parallel universes, married to different people, trying to find a way back to her partner, and ultimately, herself. It seems to be based on her own life - as Zoe recently parted with her husband Daryl Wein, who she worked with on projects over the years. The cast includes Tymika Tafari, Whitmer Thomas, Amar Chadha-Patel, & Emily Hampshire.

There’s a quote from the 13th century Persian poet Rumi that sticks with Dakota Johnson as she navigates the early years of running her production company: “Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing, there is a field. I’ll meet you there.”

We have bad news for fans of some of the bubble shows on CBS.
The network went on a cancellation spree Thursday afternoon, canceling Magnum P.I., Good Sam, and How We Roll.
Magnum P.I.'s cancellation comes as a big shock.
It has been holding up well on Fridays, pulling in comparable numbers to the other shows CBS has scheduled on the night.
Magnum P.I. Season 4 averaged 7.4 million viewers and a 0.7 rating with a week of DVR factored in.
These numbers are very good, but it looks like the network is moving in a very different direction.
Who knows, maybe the show could materialize somewhere else down the line.
Good Sam's cancellation is not much of a surprise.
The Sophia Bush drama launched in January and was saddled with low ratings since its premiere.
