Nathaniel Halpern has signed on to pen the Sherlock Holmes-esque Joe Petrosino for Summit Entertainment. Joe Petrosino is a real-life adventure story set against the rise of organized crime and the birth of forensic investigation in the explosive tinderbox of New York City at the beginning of the 20th century. Here are a few interesting and/or noteworthy projects that were recently added to IMDbPro's database of in-development titles.
Joe Petrosino – Summit Entertainment has tapped Benicio Del Toro to portray pioneering NYPD officer Joe Petrosino, who helped clean up the city's streets during the turn of the last century, into an upcoming biopic. Mullholland Falls scribe Pete Dexter is writing the script.
Black Panther – Once in development as a potential franchise for Wesley Snipes, the Marvel comicbook hero is back to life at Marvel Studios with documentary filmmaker Mark Bailey penning a new screenplay.
The Family Jewels – One of three classic Jerry Lewis comedies including The Bellboy and Cinderfella that are being groomed for remakes by Social Capitol and Artificial Intelligence Entertainment. Christopher Tuffin, John Baca and George Paige will produce the projects, which are reportedly being shopped to studios.
Dynasty – Oil, money, scandal, corruption. The '80s are still in style and Richard and Esther Shapiro, creators of the classic primetime soap starring John Forsythe as silverfox patriarch Blake Carrington, are looking to bring the clan to the big screen. Cue the horns.
Wake the Dead – Mary Shelley's Frankenstein meets Guns N' Roses' Slash. The musician made the rounds at Sundance this week announcing a trio of horror films including The Other Kingdom and Theorem, which he will produce via his new production company Slasher Films.
