It’s been almost two years since we last reported on Steven C. Miller‘s werewolf movie Year 2,starring Frank Grillo. The filmmaker has offered recent updates on social media, teasing that the long wait for action werewolf carnage is nearly over and that it appears to have a new title: Werewolves.
The premise for Werewolves is described as “a supermoon event caused a latent gene to turn everyone exposed to the moonlight into a werewolf for one night. Millions died—and now, the supermoon is back.”
Katrina Law (“NCIS”) stars alongside Grillo as the brilliant geneticist, Dr. Amy Chen, who goes on a dangerous journey with Grillo’s character to saved loved ones, against a ticking clock.
That setup sounds like The Purge: Anarchy but with werewolves, and we’re so in.
Thanks to Miller’s posts on Twitter yesterday and today, we know that the filmmaker has been...

Travis Stevens, producer of films such as A Horrible Way to Die, The Aggression Scale, Starry Eyes and We Are Still Here (all fanatasic genre films may I add), turns his hand to directing with a haunted house film that, ultimately, feels like a lesser entry in the Amityville franchise.
In a surprising move, former wrestler-turned-mma fighter Phil Brooks takes the lead as a man tipped over the edge while renovating his new family home. However bursting pipes, rotting walls and unidentifiable slime were not what Don Koch (Brooks) expected when he convinced his pregnant wife he could renovate their new Victorian home himself. In over his head, under duress, and tempted by his old weaknesses – especially from a mysteriously seductive neighbour – Don soon...

"You shot the only lead that we had." Saban Films has debuted an official trailer for an indie action thriller titled Line of Duty, the latest from action director Steven C. Miller. Aaron Eckhart (who we haven't seen much recently) stars as a disgraced cop who goes rogue and finds himself in a race against time to find a kidnap victim whose abductor he accidentally killed. Also starring Courtney Eaton, Jessica Lu, Dina Meyer, with Ben McKenzie and Giancarlo Esposito. The more action movies they make, the more they start to all look the same, because they are all the same. Always about a cop or someone having to do something to rescue someone. Always. Give it a look. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Steven C. Miller's Line of Duty, direct from Saban's YouTube: Aaron Eckhart stars as Frank Penny, a disgraced cop looking for a shot at redemption.

One of the most intriguing creations of the DC Universe (from the brilliant minds of Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson), the Swamp Thing is looking to rise from the murky depths of its watery home in a new live-action series, and Derek Mears has been cast to play the iconic DC Comics creature!
Splash Report revealed that Mears is up for the Swamp Thing role, and Bloody Disgusting confirmed the news. Mears will be playing the creature version of Swamp Thing, but the human side of the character, Dr. Alec Holland, has yet to be cast.
Horror fans of course are no stranger to Mears, who has appeared in a wide range of genre projects over the years, including Predators, The Aggression Scale, Twin Peaks, Hatchet III, and 2009's Friday the 13th, in which he played Jason Voorhees. Want to see Nicolas Cage play another crazy character? He plays a ruthless crime lord in a new film called Arsenal, and as you'll see in this first trailer, he completely transformed himself for the role. He's not as recognizable as he usually is. The action thriller also stars John Cusack and Entourage star Adrian Grenier. It's a pretty good cast for such a mediocre looking film. Maybe it will end up being better than this trailer makes it out to be.
Arsenal tells the intertwining stories of the Lindel brothers, Mikey (Johnathon Schaech) and Jp (Grenier), who had only each other to rely on growing up. As adults, Jp found success as the owner of a construction company, while Mikey became a small-time mobster, mired in a life of petty crime. When Mikey is kidnapped and held for a ransom by ruthless crime boss Eddie King (Cage), Jp turns...

This year, Nicolas Cage starred in films about ex-cons kidnapping a mobster’s birthday, an imbalanced civilian trying to hunt down Osama Bin Laden and a WWII Navy Captain struggling to stay alive in shark-infested waters. Suffice to say, he’s an actor who takes on varied roles, and this January, audiences will see him again as a ruthless mobster who faces off against John Cusack (“High Fidelity”) and Adrian Grenier (“Entourage”)

Hard to believe that July is already upon us, but before we all take off for some summer shenanigans over this long holiday weekend, here’s a look at all the great VOD titles coming our way this month, including one of my favorite films I’ve seen in 2016, Mickey Keating’s brilliant Carnage Park, which is being released by IFC Midnight.
Marauders, the latest from Steven C. Miller (The Aggression Scale, Silent Night) is also making its VOD premiere on July 1st, along with Magnet Releasing's Satanic, and Gravitas Ventures wants us to indulge in some Bachelor Games on July 8th. The haunting and beautiful Japanese animated film, Belladonna of Sadness—something all genre fans should experience at least once in their lifetimes (it’s amazing)—arrives on VOD on July 12th, and the revenge thriller Angels and Outlaws will be released on July 15th.

While it may not necessarily be a horror movie, Teenage Cocktail popped up on my radar due to the talent involved. Co-writer/director John Carchietta, who previously worked on the underrated The Hills Run Red, makes quite a statement with his directorial debut that hypnotically explores the dangers of Internet culture and how some teenagers’ narrow senses of judgment can have huge ramifications.
Teenage Cocktail follows Annie (Nichole Bloom), who has recently been transplanted into a new neighborhood and school, causing her to feel unsure about who she wants to be and how she fits into the world. She’s immediately drawn to her fellow classmate Jules (Fabianne Therese), a bit of a free spirit who flitters about with a sense of reckless abandon (ah, to be young!). The pair start off as friends, but over time their relationship evolves into something more intimate than sleepover buddies, and we see...

I’ve heard 2015 described as a bad year for horror, but that hasn’t been my experience. Between seeing a bunch of movies I really enjoyed (and will continue to enjoy for years to come) and the horror I’ve enjoyed through other outlets, I’ve been a happy genre fan this year. Here are some of my highlights:
We Are Still Here: Writer/director Ted Geoghegan’s debut feature may lack some of the nuance and technical polish of some other movies on this list, but no other horror movie has stuck with me as much this year. I love the wintery atmosphere, I love the loooong the film builds, I love the way that ghosts are depicted not as spooky things that float around and slam doors but instead are angry and vicious and have the immediacy of zombies. Most of all I love the way that...

Alex Greenfield and Ben Powell, the writing duo behind Frightfest flick The Sand – which is due for VOD release in the UK from the Frightfest/Icon Film shingle Frightfest Presents on October 19th – have scored second place in the prestigious 2015 ScreenCraft Horror Screenplay Contest behind Scott Hamilton & Pj Hamilton’s script, a werewolf tale entitled Bad Moon Rising.
Beating out over 1,000 other submissions, Greenfield and Powell’s script for Plague Ship tells the story of a newly married couple whose honeymoon becomes a nightmare when a deadly plague breaks out on their luxury cruise ship. The pair must do anything and everything to keep each other safe, both from infection and from the ship’s crew, who have decided that slaughtering passengers is the only way to keep the plague from spreading.
I’ve had a sneak peek at the screenplay and it’s safe to say I was hooked from page one.

While the name Travis Stevens may not be familiar to horror fans, the films he’s shepherded over the last several years should: A Horrible Way to Die, Little Deaths, The Aggression Scale, The Thompsons, Big Ass Spider!, Cheap Thrills, Jodorowsky’s Dune, Starry Eyes, and the upcoming feature, We Are Still Here, which debuted at the 2015 South by Southwest Film Festival.
As a producer over a relatively short amount of time, Stevens has made a huge impact on the horror genre and still works tirelessly to bring engaging and unique independent projects to life. We recently chatted with Stevens about his background, his approach to producing, the state of independent horror and the one thing he recommends to aspiring filmmakers.
Thanks for speaking with me, Travis. You have done such an amazing job throughout your career finding interesting and thought-provoking films to work on that also feel different from each other.

At first glance, Variety‘s exclusive scoop announcing Alicia Silverstone’s next film seemed to me to be signalling the actress’s return to the big screen. A quick scour over her IMDb page and it turns out I was mistaken; she’s not been away, but has instead been channeling her inner comedian into dodgy TV movies and straight-to-vid fodder. Could today’s news out of the American Film Market turn all of that around? With a title like Who Gets The Dog? it’s not looking good.
For the Epic Pictures and 2Ds co-venture, Silverstone will presumably take the lead role for a story which “follows a divorcing couple who are fighting over custody of their beloved dog.” What strikes me as odd is the choice of director the producers have deemed a perfect fit for this type of lightweight frivolity. A blood-soaked cautionary tale about the price of fame and sacrificing your own identity in the name of ambition, Starry Eyes is yet another fantastic reminder that the indie genre world is truly the best (and generally only) place fans can find ambitious and challenging horror tales these days.
Starry Eyes follows Sarah (Alex Essoe), a young actress in Hollywood struggling to find her first break in the business. As she goes on audition after audition, Sarah receives nothing but rejection from casting agents until she shows up for a part in a mysterious indie horror movie. After she initially thinks she’s blown her chance at her ‘big break,’ Sarah explodes into another one of her violent fits of rage, something that impresses the talent scouts and garners the fresh-faced talent a special second audition with the studio’s head producer (Louis Dezseran). After she initially thinks she’s blown her chance at her ‘big break,’ Sarah explodes into another one of her violent fits of rage, something that impresses the talent scouts and garners the fresh-faced talent a special second audition with the studio’s head producer (Louis Dezseran). After Sarah is asked to perform...

Don’t you hate it when you leave a party only to have your souped-up limousine run off the road by kidnappers, plunging you into what surely appears to be a watery tomb? I know, sounds like my Tuesday night – or the latest screenplay from Mother’s Day scribe Scott Milam. Directed by Steven C. Miller (Under The Bed/Silent Night), Submerged traps a group of partiers underwater in a leaking limo, showing their fight for survival as some nasty baddies attempt to finish the job even quicker. Sounds crazy, right? Well, since today saw the release of the very first trailer, you can determine just How crazy it is for yourself.
Starring Jonathan Bennet, Giles Matthey, Tim Daley, Mario Van Peebles, and a slew of fresh faces, Submerged seems to blend elements of action and horror – which is something director Steven C. Miller is used to doing after 2012′s The Aggression Scale.

Why You Need to Select the Perfect Theater to Enjoy the Bloody Mayhem of 'Cheap Thrills’ It’s so much better than video on demand. By Matt Patches Because we live in the future where movies pre-empt their releases by popping up on Time Warner Cable or Comcast's “On Demand” platforms, I, like many others, was able to watch Cheap Thrills from the comfort of my own home. I regret the decision. Cheap Thrills is the aggressive, provocative, and wickedly comic debut from E.L. Katz, a writer-producer who made a name for himself with genre-bending films like Autopsy, A Horrible Way to Die, and The Aggression Scale. The film spirals a simple idea into every imaginable direction: After reuniting by happenstance at a bar, strapped-for-cash family man Craig (Pat Healy) and townie burnout Vince (Ethan Embry) find themselves competing for cash in a series of ridiculous, violent [...]...

Like Adam Wingard’s excellent “You’re Next”, “Cheap Thrills” is a film which seems to have been lurking around for a while, building up word of mouth from enthusiastic horror fans at a variety of genre festivals. It’s certainly a film with solid creep credentials, first-time director E.L. Katz having worked on or written the likes of “Autopsy” and “The Aggression Scale”, with a segment in the upcoming “ABCs of Death 2” on the horizon. The cast is similarly interesting, reuniting Pat Healy and Sara Paxton, so enjoyable together in Ti West’s “The Innkeepers”, who are joined by Ethan Embry (“Vacancy”) and comedian David Koechner (“Anchorman”) for what is essentially a four player show. The film opens with Healy as Craig, a downtrodden man struggling to support his family in tough economic times, an eviction notice hanging over his head. After losing his job as a mechanic, he...

Man is there a lot of new content on streaming services this week. There are literally hundreds of new titles available for your viewing pleasure, I couldn’t possibly have written about all of it because I would be writing into next week! Just know that there is something there for everyone whether your bag is comedy, drama, action or horror.
Most impressively this week, Netflix have stepped up to the plate and unleashed a full load of good stuff. They have also announced that they are going to add an audio commentary to their original show House of Cards, which can only be good news for those holding on to their physical media love and may mean that this most valuable of DVD extras is not going away but will instead be reborn in a different guise.

The big names in horror are often recognized by both the genre film community and mainstream entertainment culture. They are showered with accolades by horror fans and film critics, alike. Directors like John Carpenter, Tobe Hooper, and Wes Craven have secured their place in history, but many talented directors go unrecognized for their hard work and noteworthy contributions to the genre. To remedy that, we have begun a recurring segment that gives much needed credit to horror directors that aren’t always shown the recognition they deserve. You can check out part one here. Now we present five more of our favorites…

Following on from his original horror flick The Aggression Scale, which was undoubtedly a hit with a lot of horror fans, director Steven C. Miller tackled a quasi-remake of the controversial 1984 killer-Claus film Silent Night, Deadly Night. Why quasi-remake? Well Silent Night takes the basic theme of that film (and by extension that of the classic Tales From the Crypt story “And All Through the House”), along with one or two of it’s most famous set-pieces and crafts an all-new tale of a killer Santa Claus picking off citizens of a small American town on Christmas Eve – and that’s the plot in a nutshell. No more, no less.
Unlikely to inspire the same controversy as the original film, Silent Night is more of a self-aware parody of the...

I hear a lot of casual horror fans talking about the lack of quality horror films in recent years... and to some extent they have a point. Studio-funded horror films seem to be less prevalent than they were three decades ago, and many mass-marketed horror films are lighter on gore, nudity, and the like than the features of yesteryear (with the obvious exception of the Evil Dead reboot). But there are still plenty of quality horror films being made – it’s just incumbent upon horror fans to look a little harder. There are a plethora of well-made horror pictures being released every year; they just aren’t all getting the mainstream attention that they deserve. In an attempt to remedy that, and shine the spotlight on some outstanding films that haven’t received a great deal of publicity, we are showcasing five titles from the past five years that may have passed you by,...

When most horror-loving filmmakers "hearken back" to the great old 1980s, they do it a lot like Adam Green did in his broadly (and gorily) likable Hatchet trilogy: they remind the viewer what we (hopefully) love and remember from the horror movies we saw when we were younger. A lot of those movies were pretty darn silly, but we loved them all the same -- a sentiment that certainly works for children of any generation.
Then there are scrappy little indies like Under the Bed, which do all they can to pay homage to "kid-focused" thrillers like The Gate, Poltergeist, Silver Bullet, and Stand By Me. As directed by the prolific Steven Miller (The Aggression Scale, Silent Night, Automation Transfusion) and written by Eric Stolze, Under the Bed earns a lot of points for effort and execution -- especially on such a small budget -- and it has just enough...

It's safe to say we've seen the "home invasion" thriller thrown at us from every conceivable angle by this point. The premise is nothing new, of course, as those who remember the original Straw Dogs (1971) can remind you, but over the last several years we've seen a whole lot of foreign and/or independent films that involve A) a house, B) some killers, and C) a siege of some unpleasant variety.
Take your pick: Funny Games (either version), Them (aka Ils) and High Tension (aka Switchblade Romance) and Inside, The Purge and The Strangers, The Aggression Scale, the remake of Mother's Day, the long-awaited You're Next, and probably a dozen other movies we've both seen. So right off the bat it should be clear that the film we're here to discuss -- No One Lives -- is nothing close to fresh, original, or particularly novel. But the ravenous horror fans...

Growing up on films like When a Stranger Calls, Black Christmas, The Last House on the Left (which I saw waaaay too young) and even to a degree, Dial M for Murder, I’ve always found home invasion stories to be highly effective.
After all, what’s more terrifying than the idea of someone breaking into your home or sanctuary, the one place you should feel the safest? Nothing hits harder than that idea, which is why these types of horror movies have always resonated with me over the years. It’s time to lock the doors, check the windows, and take a look back at my five favorite modern home invasion movies since 2000.
The Aggression Scale- Even though it only came out last year, that doesn’t mean that Steven C. Miller’s truly badass Home Alone meets Rambo mash-up, The Aggression Scale, isn’t worthy of a spot.

Co-director and writer Dennis Widmyer explains the film, “It’s a horror/character study/body-horror/drama. It’s about an aspiring actress who is kind of desperate and she feels like she’s on the edge of not making it and she goes on a strange audition for a production company that turns out to be a cult. A satanic cult. They lure her in, and she starts to transform physically and mentally into something horrible.”

Arriving in limited theatres July 19th and on Blu-ray/DVD July 30th is indie horror maverick Steven C. Miller's latest project, the super creepy and equally fun Under the Bed.
A modern horror fable for a new generation of creature lovers out there, Under the Bed, which is already available on VOD platforms everywhere, follows two brothers named Neal (Jonny Weston) and Paul (Gattlin Griffith), who are dealing with a monster lurking underneath their bed which comes out to terrorize them every night when the lights go out. Their parents aren't much help at all (of course), forcing Neal and Paul to defend themselves alone against the supernatural menace living beneath their bed.
