"The action and the cars," as Matt Lanter from CW's "Star-Crossed" put it, are what everyone was excited about at the premiere of Need for Speed. Both car lovers and gamers who've enjoyed the "Need for Speed" videogame knew they would feel like kids in a candy store.
For Gilles Marini (ABC Family's "Switched at Birth") and his son George, watching the flick was just some good father-son time. "We bond all the time," says Gilles. "You know I'm a dude, he's another dude, we just want to watch a good movie."
The action scenes should be especially intense, considering the stars performed all of their own stunts. When Aaron Paul heard that was the plan, he thought "it was incredibly brave. I also thought the director was out of his mind."

Thanks to preview takings, the fairytale-themed action flick kicks Wreck-It Ralph into second place, while Mama is a spooky third
The battle for the top spot
For the second time in its four-week run, Wreck-It Ralph has been forced to yield the top spot to a film it actually out-grossed over the weekend period. Thanks to preview takings on Wednesday and Thursday, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters sits in pole position in the official UK box-office chart, with five-day grosses of £1.50m. Strip out the previews, and the tally falls to a less-lofty £1.10m. The last time this happened was two weeks ago, when previews for A Good Day to Die Hard earned the action flick the top position, despite lower takings than Wreck-It over the actual weekend period.
With the half-term holiday ending the previous weekend, Wreck-It Ralph fell by a predictably hefty 59%, but Disney will be more than happy...

Title: Waiting for Lightning Director: Jacob Rosenberg Another descendant of “Dogtown and Z-Boys,” Stacy Peralta’s influential 2001 documentary about the 1970s rise of popular skateboarding culture and the colorful characters who populated it, “Waiting for Lightning” details the life story of visionary skater, daredevil and X Games star Danny Way, building up to his 2005 attempt to jump the Great Wall of China. A slick technical package and a willingness to peer at least a bit into the difficult childhood and fractured psyche of its subject give this movie a leg up on a lot of its less inquisitive, like-minded, hagiographic stunt spectaculars, like “Nitro Circus: The Movie.” Way was [ Read More ]

Moviefone's New Release Pick of the Week "Brave" What's It About? Pixar's latest feature tells the story of Princess Merida, a headstrong- archery-loving teenager, living in feudal Scotland, whose desire to carve out her own fate and go against her parent's wishes for betrothal sets her on a magic adventure. See It Because: "Brave" is rich in both visual splendor and charming characters. And despite it being a completely new story, it sits perfectly alongside other timeless childhood fairy tales. Merida is an adorable and plucky heroine for young audiences, and the movie's simple message of responsibility makes this a great viewing experience for the entire family (but especially mothers and daughters). (Also Available on Amazon Instant Video | Netflix ) Moviefone's Blu-ray Release of the Week "Lawrence of Arabia" What's It About? Welcome back to This Week In Discs! As always, if you see something you like, click on the image to buy it. Nitro Circus: The Movie Nitro Circus is a group of friends who routinely perform dangerous stunts for their own entertainment, and the roster includes folks with names like ‘Street Bike’ Tommy, ‘Special’ Greg Powell and Arron ‘Wheelz’ Fotheringham. They’re like the Jackass crew, but instead of stapling frogs to their nut sacks or seeing who can fart the biggest fireball these guys (and one gal) do actual stunts involving motorcycles, cars, modified Big Wheels and more. It’s a massive difference, because instead of wanting them to get hurt you’re wanting to see them succeed. They also truly appreciate each other before, durring and after the stunts as opposed to trying to humiliate each other on camera. This is a fun and suspenseful watch, but as a reminder Pick of the Week status...

Fans of extreme sports will love to see the stunts and tricks the Nitro Circus crew can pull off, and Travis Pastrana of Nitro Circus was able to speak to ShockYa about he and his crew’s new film, “Nitro Circus: The Movie 3D.” Check out what he had to say about the film, the stunts, and what the Nitro Circus philosophy is below the post. “Nitro Circus: The Movie 3D” comes to DVD and Blu-ray November 13. Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises was king of the hill for three weeks, but this weekend found it at the bottom of an inescapable prison. By “inescapable prison,” I mean in 3rd place with another $19.5m and a cumulative $835m worldwide gross, so no one is eating soup and cabbage at Warners or anything. The Campaign – featuring Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis punching babies for votes – took 2nd with an opening draw of $27.4m domestic. The unsurprising winner, however, was The Bourne Legacy which scored $40.2m here in the States and a worldwide total of $48m. That’s a better opening than The Bourne Identity but it’s a bit behind the two other franchise entries. Again, not surprising. In slightly smaller releases, the Meryl Streep/Tommy Lee Jones marriage drama Hope Springs came in 4th place with 1,000 or so fewer theaters, taking $15.6m. Travis Pastrana’s stunt-fueled Nitro Circus: The Movie 3D took $1.1m...

"The Bourne Legacy" leads an army of new movies into theaters this weekend. Thankfully, for ticket buyers, it seems most of this week's offerings are solid bits of entertainment: Only "Bourne Legacy" -- the fourth film in the "Bourne" franchise, but one that doesn't include title star Matt Damon -- and something call "Nitro Circus: The Movie" were certified rotten by Rotten Tomatoes, the popular movie review aggregation site.
Not that films like "The Campaign," "Hope Springs" and indie releases "Red Hook Summer" and "2 Days In Paris" are perfect. Critics found issues with each, with complaints ranging from the films being too stupid ("The Campaign") to too messy (Spike Lee's "Red Hook Summer"). Still, if you're headed to theaters this weekend -- and not watching the Closing Ceremonies at the 2012 London Olympics -- you've certainly got some options.
Television watchers, on the other hand, have a bit less to consider.

The Dark Knight Rises faces its toughest opponent yet as The Bourne Legacy storms theatres this weekend. It still remains to be seen if people will flock to this spin-off without Matt Damon on screen, but the last installment made $440 million worldwide, which is by far the most successful of the trilogy. Also competing for a slice of the box office pie we have a pair of comedies: the Will Ferrell / Zach Galifianakis election comedy The Campaign and the "mature" rom-com Hope Springs starring Meryl Streep, Tommy Lee Jones and Steve Carell. Also in select theatres look for Nitro Circus: The Movie (based on an MTV show I've never heard of), Julie Delpy's 2 Days in New York and Spike Lee's Red Hook Summer. What will you be watching this weekend? The Bourne Legacy The Campaign Hope Springs Nitro Circus: The Movie 3D (semi-wide) Red Hook Summer (limited) 2 Days...

Looks like another easy victory at the top for ol' Uncle Oracle - The Bourne Legacy is tracking far above The Campaign, and The Dark Knight Rises doesn't have nearly enough momentum. The only art this weekend will be in the totals, so let's hunt those down! Laremy predicted the #1 movie correctly 8 Weeks In A Row The Bourne Legacy It's over two hours, but theaters should still be able to slot five showings per theater. It's also working with a PG-13 rating and an established franchise. Add in a 500 theater count advantage and you have certain victory.
As for the film itself? I liked it more than B-Luv (his review here), but it certainly has flaws. Those flaws won't hurt it for opening weekend though. Plus, this sub-$50m opening would rank it third in the series (of four), so it's not even as though we're setting the bar particularly high.
