This is a comedy wrongly labeled by IMDB
joebon129 September 2022
Comedy show, none of the genres IMDB put on this show are true. Nothing about the first episode was crime or action, -or even drama, it was old school silent movie jokes, with sound on them, all the way through.

Starring Kevin Hart playing two huge boobies with a female face attached, resembling Niecy Nash.

Sorry but its true, Niecy Nash acts, sounds and moves like Kevin Hart, and that frequency of Her voice makes dogs run and hide.

That being said, the show is kind of okay, of course all the actors from the real Rookie show are in this one as well, and at least they do a good job at being...them.

I gave it 4 stars, because I expected realism to some extent, but its a comedy, at least the first episode was.

Hoping it gets a lot better.

Call For Backup!
ThatMonkey28 September 2022
I love The Rookie. It's an underrated show. When Niecy Nash guested, I found her to much more digestible than her normally irritating persona. That said, it was a decent arc/guest spot, but not worthy of a spin off.

The pilot was not strong and it lacked all of the elements that made her guest spot entertaining. I like her Felix, could have used much more of him and s and James Lesure, but Britt didn't come close to fitting in and the Vampire Cop stuff was 100% disposable. I'm already tired of the dynamic between Niecy and her dad. If they want this to be a series and not a gimmick, that won't last. Make Niecy the Underdog like Nathan was on the original. Dial the dizziness down and make her legitimately bright, verse this streetwise hustler and give Felix and James more to do. I think Niecy may be far too petite to buy in this roles and with her curvaceous figure, I don't see her running or appearing tough, so it's really going to be a hard sell. This would have been a much better fit for a Regina Hall, but based on what I have seen so far, I'd be surprised if we get an entire season.

As a SPIN OFF, it makes NO SENSE
privategalender3 November 2022
There are only two things this show has in common with the show it "spun off from," and neither of those things are enough for the majority of Rookie fans to even begin to enjoy this show.

Like the ROOKIE, the main character made a career change late in life, etc., and

The basic premise of the show and the writing feels similar to the original except it veers off like a caricature drawing of someone you know: in a good caricature drawing you can clearly recognize the person in the drawing, but every feature on the person's face is ridiculously exaggerated.

I believe, having watched SIX FULL EPISODES, I gave the show more of a chance than the other ROOKIE fans that quite FAIRLY gave the show a low rating. When I came here to rate the show I planned on giving it THREE STARS, and then leaving. But I became curious and began reading reviews.

The first couple dozen I read were all negative reviews and were in line with some of my thoughts on the series. I decided to head to the opposite end of the reviews and had IMBD show me positive reviews. I found it difficult to believe at first that ANYONE BELIEVED THE SHOW DESERVED 10 STARS, but I began to notice those reviews were from FANS OF MS. NASH, aaaaahhhhh. They were not fans of the original show!

Those people knew what they were getting into when they tuned in, THEY WERE NOT MISLEAD by the creators of the show!

I guess the creators wanted things both ways, or to STACK THE VIEWERSHIP DECK. I decided to give it one extra star for fans of Ms Nash, but rookie fans: SKIP IT.

I just removed it from HULU "My Stuff" list so I won't waste my time just because it's there telling me a new episode is available!

I don't understand.....
troyquinton30 April 2023
.... How did this drivel get approved to production???!!!! The main Rookie is a great show. This low second rather mismatch show is painful to watch. The main actress and her squeeky voice is so damn annoying and as a rookie has way too much credibility. Not forgetting the desperate plea in having to do crossovers in a desperate attempt for more ratings. STOP the crossovers, it is pathetic. Please end this show and put the money into the original tv show Rookie. The cast is bland and B or C grade, definitely not first class. It's very painful to watch. Now in rambling as I need to meet the minimum 100 more characters to allow this review to be required for a review.

Don't think anyone wanted more of this character
aovannor30 September 2022
I'm going to guess they didn't bother screening for feedback about this character because I'm pretty sure everyone that watched The Rookie found her to be extremely over the top and a bit grating. As a rarely seen reoccuring side character she would be fine but there's no way she can hold up an entire show. The actor is doing their job just fine but the way the character is written is just a lot to take.

The Rookie already has a lot of filler episodes so adding a filler spinoff that no one asked for is just a weird choice. That money should have been put into more writers for The Rookie.

This character was and should have always been a bit of mild comic relief every now and then... nothing more.

When you Watch for the Supporting Cast
cjohnson-9502915 February 2023
When the backdoor pilot for Feds played on The Rookie, my original intention was to give the show no attention, if it was picked up. However, as they started casting, I saw a number of actors that I enjoyed, so I gave it a try.

Now I find myself enjoy watching the secondary characters and aggressively hate watching the lead. Don't get me wrong, Niecy Nash is fine in the right environment. She is great on something like Reno 911 where she is in an ensemble and where the whole concept is goofy. But her obnoxious portrayal of an obnoxious character is so irritating, it makes it nearly impossibly to watch.

The Simone Clark character walks in, specifically into a group that was harnessed with her against their will in the backdoor pilot, and is basically the Messiah of the FBI, telling everyone exactly how to do their jobs, while also comporting herself any way she pleases.

I find myself still watching for the other characters and storylines I find more interesting, as well as for the interaction between the parent series and the spinoff characters, but every time she is focus, I'm completely pulled out of the moment. This is one of those times that a shock move like removing the main character would be a huge boost to a decent show.

I'm a big fan of Nathan Fillion since his Buffy days and through Firefly so when he became The Rookie I was all in. It's an enjoyable show. A bit farfetched for all that his particular character has gone through but it's still good.

When Rookie: Feds came along I gave it a shot because of the crossover.

This could be such a great show with a few character changes.

Niecy Nash's character Simone grates on the nerves. She comes across as fake as a person acting a part, badly I might add. She's really not useful to most of the episodes and she's supposed to be the central character.

Frank Faison's Cutty is also unbearable and the acting is horrible.

Minus these two characters the show could really be something.

Rookie Season - No Renewal!
Narce26 January 2023
I have been a fan of "The Rookie" since it started, and have kept with it because Nathan Filion is basically a likeable character.

But I am giving up on "The Rookie: Feds" for pretty much the same reason, in reverse: Niecy Nash is basically an annoying and unlikeable character.

Others have mentioned her choice of clothing as being inappropriate for ANY office. Beyond this, she is loud and has a grating voice that she feels the need to exercise at inopportune times (like briefing sessions).

I found the rest of the cast to be OK, and if Simone's character were removed from the show, I might find it worth watching. But as it is now, this rookie isn't worth a full-time position.

It's not a documentary, it's lighter fare
sheridaglover29 September 2022
I don't understand all the hate. If I want a procedural we've got "FBI" and its variations, the whole "Law and Order" world and Dateline and 20/20 if we want real cases.

"The Rookie" has a great blend of action and humor. This is in that line and it's fun.

No one is ever going to ask Niecy to play Ophelia, but she has some chops. (Look at "Claws" for proof.) I find the whole "League of Extraordinary Guidance Counselors" both hilarious and a great idea. Using all of a characters back story experience is what makes "The Rookie" such fun to watch. A good guidance counselor knows so much about kids, I'm surprised they aren't a source more often.

It's a fun show in the best tradition of cop shows that have a good time while still dealing with tough situations.

I do think the cleavage could be minimized, not for the whole appropriateness issue. Girlfriend needs a good supportive sports bra if she's going to be running after crooks. Watching her run makes my chest hurt.

Don't hate so quick
kathryngoode5 October 2022
It's just one episode out and everyone is giving it a thumbs down. Sometimes it takes a couple episodes for shows to find their footing.

The first episode was not nearly as bad as everyone is saying. I think it was decent and I'll continue watching it to see how the rest of the season pans out.

I think Niecy is going to be great and I love the focus on side characters. Vampire guy is already fun, I hope he gets more screen time with Niecy! Just feels like the Rookie but with new characters which isn't so bad. Original rookie is always superior but give others a chance to shine too! I'll keep watching.

Annoying is annoying
drjgardner29 September 2022
OK. It's a clever idea to make a series about an annoying person who nonetheless delivers the goods. The opportunities for comedy and irony are limitless. The problem is, if the person is really so annoying, then it's annoying to watch. That's the problem here. The central character does such a good job it's hard to watch.

There isn't much support from her fellow actors, none of whom stand out and all of whom just fade into the background. And the script contusions necessary to allow her to succeed are just too contrived, not merely in quantity but in quality as well.

All told, a good idea, but the inherent problem is not overcome.

Niecy's Wardrobe
cash19482 October 2022
I loved Niecy's character, as well as the others and the premise is great, but sweet fancy Moses, put her in a costume that isn't cut to her naval. The glaring cleavage is distracting. She wouldn't have gotten away with that as a guidance counselor and certainly should recognize that no one else in the Feds or LAPD shows such 'ample assets'. The writer's could have Garza pull her aside and delicately explain that her clothing is inappropriate. No way she could manage a vest in a dangerous scenario and if she needed to run for any reason, she'd break her chin. Step up wardrobe department and fix this.

Entertaining
ethdaniel29 September 2022
Pure Niecy. I love it. With those reviews that say she's not following the FBI dress code, awww come on. We don't want to watch a documentary; we want to be entertained Niecy style. I see this as a dramedy. I think TV has a plethora of serious law enforcement shows already. Take your pick. I want to cringe and laugh in the same half hour. I think the writing is good and I like how they give the characters a backstory so they can connect with the TV audience. Yeah, she's not following the FBI rules and protocol, but don't forget, this is entertainment. I also like the premise of how, because of her age, she is not taken seriously. I look forward to see where this goes.

The WORST spin off in the history of TV
watchingscreen29 March 2023
Seriously? Poor plots, worse acting, and a ludicrous premise to begin with. How this piece of crap got a green light is a mystery. The lead is totally unbelievable and can't act her way out of a wet paper bag. The FBI may have its issues but hiring someone like her character is so out of line with even the wackiest conspiracy theories it's ridiculous. This makes "My Mother the Car" look like Shakespeare. I feel sorry for the rest of the cast getting stuck in what will become a major blot on their acting resumes. Silliness, absurdity, inappropriate clothing for a "special agent", and lack of talent.

There's bad, really bad, garbage, then this
klown01328 September 2022
The Rookie is by no means realistic or what I would call a great show, but it started off seemingly serious anf attempted to spotlight real issues and took a somewhat gritty approach. This has dwindled more and more in the last few season with non-stop romances, incredibly unbelievable characters (his firefighter-ex-model-green-beret-blackbelt girlfriend) but it is still somehow less silly than this fever dream of insanity. A middle age woman well past the enrollment age for the FBI is allowed in because - she was a good high school guidance counselor and she failed the driving portion of the entrance exam but threated the instructor so they passed her. Because that's how it works folks. There is garbage writing on TV, then there is this dumpster fire of bad ideas thrown together and somehow put out there for people to watch.

Rookie Error
murada196729 September 2022
I love the original Rookie though in the past couple series it has veered too much into melodrama/soapy territory and has lost its way a tad.

The first thing about 'Feds' is that it poorly cast. I found the lead irritating in her guest spot on Rookie and wonder whose bright idea it was to give the character her own show.

There is no chemistry between any of the characters and the acting is mostly sub-standard. The pilot failed to engage in any way and I wasn't sure if it was trying to be a comedy or serious drama.

The show has cancellation written all over it. This was a great opportunity to develop the Rookie franchise but this is really an epic fail.

I am extremely disappointed in this show.
jc_unicat5 October 2022
I enjoy watching The Rookie a LOT, so was looking forward to this show to see more of the same.

I watched Season 1, Episode 1, and will NEVER watch another. This can't be classified as drama and not even comedy, unless there is a category for slapstick comedy.

Thought when she guested on The Rookie it was to spark interest in this with her outrageous attitude but guess I was HUGELY mistaken.

She is a caricature, not a believable character at all. Even the other agents in the office seem unbelievable with all the inane side comments.

The clothes that the lead character wears also, are more trashy than classy.

As far as I am concerned, she is not a model character for the strong Black Woman that I thought that I would see.

Like the concept but ...
tt-019629 October 2022
Just like the Rookie the idea that someone older uses their life experience to solve crimes is a winning formula I just can't take to Niecy Nash in the main role . Nathan Filion is amazing as John Nolan and the rest of the cast of the Rookie is perfect . I like the character of Simone the problem is the casting ... she just isn't believable in the role and don't get me started on her wardrobe . I've liked her in other projects but in this role I wish they had cast someone else . It's still enjoyable and the rest of the cast work well but her casting takes away from what could've been a great show .

She would be a disgrace to the real FBI
rpmedic5 October 2022
First of all, there is no way the FBI would let someone parade around, especially a rookie with that much cleavage hanging out. Normally I wouldn't complain one bit, but with her, it's kind of revolting. Second, Niecy Nash is a horrible actress. I mean let's face fact, she cannot act....at all. This wasn't a bad idea for a spin off, but please replace the annoying Niecy Nash. I couldn't even make it through the first few minutes of the second episode. It seems like the longer you watch, the more boobs she shows. I think this show either needs to be cancelled or restarted with a new main character.

Interesting, Fun
cpuser9991 October 2022
When Niecy guest-starred on "The Rookie," I thought it was odd to feature the actor through the entire show. Still, she fit well-I soon learned about "Feds" and anticipated she'd stagger from one disaster to the next in this interaction, barely squeaking by her superiors much like Fillion did in the Rookie's first season. Instead, she seems like she has an intuitive knack for the role.

The plot of episode one is solid-I don't think it is unbelievable unless most of these reviewers have all personally worked for the FBI! In the first episode, the antagonist is downright scary in his total disregard for human life; and it's interesting to see the dynamics between different agencies at the city and federal level-where does one's jurisdiction end and another begin?

I have no idea about the policies and procedures of the FBI, even having read James Comey's entire book from start to finish. I didn't know much about LAPD either despite having watched a lot of police procedurals in my time (including Castle, which was set in NYC but shot in LA, so...yeah), and I think it will be interesting to learn.

The auxiliary characters are a bit 2D, but I'd look forward to seeing how their barriers are broken down in future episodes, perhaps even with storylines that follow them. Quite exciting and a fun premise; I am looking forward to the rest of the season.

By the Numbers...and Letters
super16g6 October 2022
This is a typical crime show that features a diverse crew overcoming the odds and differences to crack the case in the time allowed by one episode. We've seen this done and this one brings not much new to the table despite the idea that these are last chance agents being paired with outside the box newbies that have to earn their keep every step they take. That part becomes tiresome, because either the FBI accepts them and respects them or they don't. They can't just keep going to the well of about to be shut down to brining in kingpins off the top ten most wanted list.

So yeah, but the numbers. Niecy proves herself and that her intuition and people skills are something the FBI needs, but... all of it is overshadowed by her very chesty outfits that showcase her bosom. Whether or not FBI protocols would allow her to dress the way she does is one thing, it is obvious the show wants us to look at her cleavage. That may or may not work for the audience this show is going for.

Overall. I want to get to know them more. I want to see how the subplots play out. I like the idea of a strong black woman leading a show. So I hope it lasts.

As hard hitting as a nerf gun.
My67falcon6 November 2022
Where to start. We have 2 people that would never be selected for mall security much lest the FBI. Neither are very likeable and their training agents have so much baggage that it detracts from what little the show offers. Drawing on past experiences is one thing... having to listen to how the smell of a high school locker room could compare to the decomposing bodies in a morgue or being able to profile everything because you figured out what's on a 16 year old boys mind gets old fast. The unorganic way that social issues pop into the show make it feel more like an infomercial for the cause of the day. All in all, simply a poor spinoff.

Pretty Decent Pilot!
jerrellanderson28 September 2022
I really like this show! I'm excited about the Characters! I'm glad that it's a new show it's feels like the The Rookie World but completely different!!! Simone is Crazy funny and I like that corky personality!!! I hope this show succeed because it's definitely have the potential!!!

I will be watching this show every week!!! I'm from Mississippi and Simone reminds me of my Auntie that's annoying most of the time but heart is always in the right place. She know a bit to much for no reason but that just part of her charm. You can't help but to love this character. She honest with a sassy personality and make you laugh so much!!!

It's really not that bad.
gjereb30 March 2023
Not everyone wants a blood n guts mixed with horror in a cop show. It's light-hearted, funny at times, and easy to watch, without the over done or brutal sex scenes. I don't think producers or directors, or even the writers were trying to re-write Law and Order, Criminal Minds, or Chicago P. D., or even the F. B. I., shows that take on a more serious attitude. One of my biggest complaints is the fact that Symone is a "rookie" federal agent, and while everyone on the show involved as an "agent" or federal employee has strict dress codes EXCEPT her. Why does she have be portrayed with her ample bosom and cleavage out and almost the focal point of her scenes. No federal agent, much less a rookie would be allowed to dress like that on the job, unless of course as an under cover agent needing that attire. This seems to be a point a lot of viewers complain about. Fix it, please. I'm no prude, I am a woman, and I love women's bodies and no woman should be ashamed of her body. It just doesn't fit to the character she plays.

Replace Niecy Nash
snaarf-143347 March 2023
I actually like the rest of the cast and their dynamics. Niecy Nash distracts from the rest of the show; her acting is bad and over the top.

Think part of the problem is how the character is written especially, as there is no way a rookie agent would get away with her insubordination.

Many times, the lead is written to have a sudden "insight" to solve the crime whereas the rest of the crew is doing the real work. The lazy writing gets annoying fast.

I enjoy the performance of the actor who plays her father, but I don't know how you would keep him in the show while writing her out of the series.

The Rookie works because Nathan Fillion is believable and likeable, none of which applies to the lead of this spinoff.
