"The Walking Dead" continues its onslaught as one of the most amazing horror-themed television shows to ever hit the airwaves. Season 4 brought new characters, expanded some old favorites, evoked tears and cheers, and of course had its share of zombie action.
Tomorrow, August 26th, "The Walking Dead" Season 4 hit Blu-ray/DVD via Anchor Bay, and with that in mind we decided to look back at our favorite moments from this season. Characters coming and going, separation and reunion, death and new life... Season 4 brought us "The Walking Dead" like we'd never seen it before.
We've got our Top 13 here, but as always, we'll start with some honorable mentions. Bob's raging alcoholism leading to the complete destruction of the liquor store kicked off the action in Episode 1, and the discovery of David and Karen's murdered and burned bodies was the first real mysterious firecracker Season 4 gave us.

When I reviewed the original Blu-ray release of The Walking Dead Season 1, I gave the show itself high marks, but noted that the bonus features were a bit light considering the popularity of the show and its dedicated fanbase.
Anchor Bay is looking to correct that with the release of The Walking Dead Season 1 3-Disc Special Edition. All of the extras from the previous release are included, along with new features, audio commentary, and a black & white version of the pilot episode.
The Show Itself:
Having reviewed the show during its original airing and now multiple Blu-ray releases, I’ve see the first season quite a few times. The show holds up very well after multiple viewings and I still feel the same way about the show that I did the first time. I really like what they’ve put together for the first 6 episodes, but I also feel like...

It seems like just yesterday, the horror community as a whole were waiting with baited breath to catch their first glimpse at AMC’s live action recreation of what has since become one of the most popular comic books on the face of the planet. Halloween 2010 would unleash The Walking Dead upon us all. A chronicle of the zombie apocalypse, spread out over a series of episodes, rather than in and out in ninety minutes.
It came, it went, and the results were good. Anchor Bay released the series on DVD and Blu Ray, what seemed like pretty quickly after the show completed it’s first season. Now, it seems they’re re-releasing season one, in a special edition Blu Ray and DVD set. They’re even going as far as to release special collector’s tin, in Blu Ray only of course. The Show:
So how does one make zombies interesting again? By adapting Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead as a min-series. It doesn’t take much to please most zombie fans. Just give them some great gore and lots of the undead, but while playing homage to George A. Romero’s immortal Dead series, Kirkman’s wonderful stories are more than sweet Fulci-type gore gags, he sprinkles these elements over the framework of surviving in the hunter/gatherer sense. And unlike the latter Romero zombie films, The Walking Dead is far from being just another stiff. It’s alive in the intimate levels of being human.
For nearly fifty years, the zombie film has become the “Bizarro World” of our society, and audiences continue to eat up these stories. But what makes Kirkman’s story so involving is the in-depth look at daily life within the zombie apocalypse. Tension, suspense,...

The Walking Dead definitely caught the world by storm on Halloween 2010. I have to admit I’ve never read nor do I own one of the comics by Robert Kirkman but I’d heard about it simply because of one word, zombies. A comic book about zombies and this comic book wasn’t for the little tykes but for the true horror fans.
I followed The Walking Dead from the very first announcement AMC released and then went on about my daily routine. Then there was this one press release where Frank Darabont’s name got my attention. Not only did he sign on as the first episode director but he helped write this thing too, hell he created the series for AMC is what he did! With a team like Kirkman and Darabont and the new edginess of AMC this was simply a winning combination, but how would it turn out?...

The full list of bonus features are inside.
An updated synopsis:
“The Walking Dead: The Complete First Season” breathes new life into the zombie genre as it unfolds a post-apocalyptic saga that follows a group of survivors, led by police officer Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln), who searches for a safe haven and, hopefully, a new home, far from the undead that now roam the earth hungry for human flesh. Each episode explores the challenges of life in a world overrun by zombies, and the toll it takes on the survivors who now find themselves going to...
