Intense Evangelism
ekgueli18 January 2011
Flowers of the Son is a documentary that gives the viewer an up-close look at the experiences of missionaries on Jews for Jesus' Behold Your God Israel campaign. They go out to where the people are in the land of Israel, a nation with 5.5 million Jewish people, sharing the message that Jesus is the promised Messiah of the Jewish people.

The missionaries begin their day holding up large Hebrew banners along busy streets proclaiming that Yeshu=Yeshua=Yeshuah (Jesus=Yeshua=salvation) and a phone number for people to call. The missionaries then come back to base camp for a meal and fellowship (where they are served by stewards, Gentile Christians from the U.S. and other countries) followed by another 'sortie' (French for 'going out') where they go to the marketplace for one on one conversation with whoever will to talk to them. I was surprised to learn that while on these sorties the missionaries have to change locations often in order to avoid violence and verbal abuse from the religious, anti-missionary groups. It is common for them to be pushed, shoved, or spit-on while they are in conversation with some of the many unreached, secular Israeli Jews.

It was encouraging to see that even while there are many that are not open to hearing their message there are some that are seeking the freedom, love, and salvation that only Jesus can give. It is touching to see the hope in their eyes when they speak of this new revelation of truth that is opening up for them as they are reading the New Testament for the first time.

This documentary shows me how intense and purposeful the Behold Your God Israel campaign is and how tirelessly Jews for Jesus works at sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with their Jewish brothers and sisters in Israel. These faithful missionaries spend long days talking to people and dodging persecutors, sometimes getting beat up or put in jail. Why do they do this? Because they have found peace in Yeshua and they are now compelled to share it with their people.

After watching Flowers of the Son, I am inspired to do more to support this work through prayer, giving, and possibly being a steward on a future campaign. May the Lord continue to bless the outreach of Jews for Jesus in Israel and may He call more Christians to support this work so that more Jewish people can hear the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Documentary of Christian evangelism in Israel

Flowers of the son is a moving documentary by Jews for Jesus which portrays vividly the need of reaching Israel with the good news of Jesus Christ. The title Flowers of the Son is a metaphor taken from the sunflowers which have lost their shine because of the sun which has forced them to look down. Israel has also been forced to look away from the Son who is Jesus Christ and hence losing her beauty of knowing Jesus.

The documentary manages to portray the spiritual ignorance that covers the nation of Israel. Its so informative and educative which enables it to send the true message about the Israel. Through the documentary all the misconceptions about the Jewish nation are answered hence thumbs up to Jews for Jesus for informing the world on Israel.

The viewer will be saddened by the reality of knowing how unreached the Jews are and how they have been blinded from knowing Jesus by their religious leaders who deny the existence of Jesus. The documentary portrays the incredible work done by missionaries who boldly bring the gospel of Jesus to the Jewish nation in the midst of fierce opposition. The research in the documentary is impressive as accurate statistics are given on facts about Israel for instance only 0,01 percent of Israel knows about Jesus. The viewer gets to appreciate better the work of the missionaries whose determination in reaching out to the lost Jews is just so inspiring and moving throughout the documentary. The documentary is a must see for all Christians. The Jewish people are secular and the orthodox rabbis do not believe in the messiah. Since the orthodox are ruling the country, they control what people read and what they should know as a result no new testament bibles are sold in the bookshops.

Just as Jesus was rejected 2 000 years ago by the Jews today he is still being rejected by the same Jewish nation. By the end of the documentary one can not help but share the burden of reaching out to the Jews. Highly recommended to all who love Israel and those want to know more about the spiritual state of Israel.

An outstanding and professionally done video that explains the work of Jews for Jesus in Israel

Flowers of the Son is a great eye opener of how great the missionary need is in Israel, especially for the Jewish people. Less than 6000 of the 5.5 million Jewish people in Israel know who Jesus is.

Yeshua is Hebrew for Jesus. Israelis commonly don't know who Yeshua is because Jesus is commonly referred to as Yeshu is Israel. Yeshu is commonly known in Israel as an acronym that means, "May his name be blotted out." Thus, Jews for Jesus banners in Israel read, in Hebrew, Yeshu=Yeshua=Yeshuah. Yeshuah means, "salvation."

Some followers of Judaism in Israel see Christian missionaries as germs that need to be eradicated. Israeli book stores commonly will not carry the New Testament. Jews for Jesus missionaries often must relocate their efforts every forty minutes in order to avoid sometimes unsafe confrontations from followers of Judaism. Of course, not all followers of Judaism resort to rude or unsafe confrontational actions.

Jewish people, especially in Israel, need Jesus. The Jews for Jesus campaign, Behold Your God, began it's outreach in Israel in 2008. It's name is based upon Isaiah 40:9, ". . . be not afraid; say unto the cities of Judah, Behold your God!" They are sharing the gospel of Jesus in the land where Jesus walked. If they really believe that Jesus is the Messiah, then how can they be silent?!

Flowers of the Son is a wonderful reminder of how Jesus' passion for His people is alive and He will, indeed, save a remnant as He promised. The veil is slowly beginning to be lifted from the eyes of the Jewish people. Trusting Jesus is actually the most Jewish thing that a Jewish person can do.

For honest seekers

Unlike a slew of knockout Christian themed films, Flowers of the Son, is professionally produced with very High Definition, high production standards, and a pleasing Middle Eastern musical sound track. Edited to a brisk 30 minutes, with tight editing that keeps one's interest.

Interviews are interspersed with beautifully typical scenes of life in Israel. This documentary is tastefully done, is not defensive, though it could be.

I recommend it for honest seekers willing to hear another point of view (that Y'shua/Jesus was and is the Jewish Messiah) or for anyone with interest in Israel and the Jewish people. This documentary is a pleasantly surprising production from Jews for Jesus.

Behold Your God, Israel

Warning: Spoilers
Flowers of the Son gives an inside look into the challenges faced by the evangelists who are pounding the streets of Israel, sharing the gospel of Jesus with anyone who will listen as part of the Behold Your God campaign which began in 2009. For only a thirty minute film, there's a ton of information there.

I think Americans are so truly oblivious to the plight of others around the world. And especially as one who lives in the South – the Bible belt as it's called – it's hard for me to grasp that there are people in the world who truly have no idea who Jesus is. For me, Flowers of the Son was eye-opening. I was dumbfounded that according to the film, the majority of Israelis don't have any idea about Jesus or who He was. I was even more shocked to find that the Jewish people don't really even have access to the New Testament. You won't find a Bible with the New Testament in a bookstore in Israel. It's just not available. I guess I've always assumed that knowledge of Jesus was common in Israel. It's where He lived and had His ministry. Yet those Jews who do know of Him, call Him Yeshu which is an acronym in Hebrew for "may his name and memory be blotted out" and for the Jews, it would seem that it has.

In the film we are introduced to a gentleman who after talking with one of the Jews for Jesus evangelists, came to know Christ. He'd never had the opportunity to read the New Testament, but said once he started, he plowed through the entire thing in about two weeks. He said it was like he had discovered a treasure that had been hidden from him until now. Praise God for the efforts of those like Jews for Jesus who, even in the face of what is sometimes violent opposition, continue to share the gospel of Jesus Christ.
