When Will Trent debuted last year, it immediately secured a Tuesday primetime slot on ABC for years to come, earning solid ratings and an 89% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. And now, a year later, the second season is on our screens, garnering even more attention (and viewership), and fans are calling it the best police procedural in a long time.
Adapting book stories is a tricky task, and winning the hearts of Og fans is even trickier, so even before Season 1 was released, some social media users were concerned about how faithful the show would be to the source material. When a show doesn’t come as something original being based on some kind of book, it still doesn’t necessarily need to stick to the primary source, and modern TV has been a constant proof of it. ABC is one of the most recent examples of this with its hit show Will Trent the plot for which originally comes from Karin Slaughter’s book series.
While the show completely changed some major aspects of the storyline, it also brutally ignored one significant character from the novel that never made an appearance in the TV version, yet this problem may be solved quite soon.
Will Trent: Book vs. Show Differences
When turning the book plot into a long-standing show, the creators had quite a lot of things totally transformed, and someone doesn’t have to go far in this case if they are familiar with the original novel. It all...

Triggering memories seemed to be the theme of Will Trent Season 2 Episode 8.
The series has delved into Will's childhood this season, and it finally revealed the traumatic event that he had blocked out for years.
Elsewhere, when Michael and Angie investigated an Army Ranger's death, it brought up some feelings about Michael's time in the military.
We haven't even started discussing how important Lily's case was since she had been missing for 13 years, and certain clues from her case triggered Will.
As mentioned in the Will Trent Spoilers, Lily's case reminded me of The Promise episode from CSI: Vegas because no one initially took her disappearance seriously, and the trail went cold.
There are 60,000 missing Black women in this country. We’re going to get justice for this one.

We're in the last three episodes of Will Trent's shortened Season 2, so expect things to get intense and chaotic, at least with the cases.
The spoilers for Will Trent Season 2 Episode 8 tease that as the Gbi investigates the cold case of a girl who disappeared 13 years ago, it triggers more flashbacks of Will's childhood trauma.
As Will deals with his memories, he and Angie try to rebuild their relationship in a healthier way, so it's more than a trauma bond.
In the main story, the Gbi locates the body of a missing girl, Lily Watkins. She's been missing for 13 years, so this case overwhelms everyone.
Her murder sounds brutal since she was strangled, but she fought back.
Amanda mentions in the weekly promo that 60,000 Black women are missing in the United States, and that sounded very much like The Promise episode from CSI: Vegas when the team found the body...

One of TV’s most iconic families gets a chance to say goodbye.
Deadline reports that The Conners is nearing an official pickup at ABC for Season 7.
The caveat is that it would be the Roseanne follow-up’s final season of around six episodes.
A deal is still being ironed out but is expected to be finalized relatively soon. John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, and Lecy Goranson are among the cast members expected to return.
Many final seasons of long-running shows lose cast members due to the ever-increasing costs of making TV.
A consistent performer for ABC since it premiered, the show has much softer ratings than Roseanne – all following Roseanne’s controversial cancellation in 2018.
The Conners debuted following Roseanne’s cancellation
Roseanne returned earlier in 2018 to blockbuster viewership but was canceled after series star Roseanne Barr’s controversial comments about Valerie Jarrett.

While these breaks between episodes haven't been fun, it'll be worth the wait to see Will and Faith in action at a wedding.
Will has never attended a wedding before. They would be the type of event that would make him nervous. While he wears suits daily, he's never donned a tux before.
However, spoilers for Will Trent Season 2 Episode 7 indicate that he escorts Faith and her son, Jeremy, to a wedding where they encounter danger instead of celebratory fun.
Both the weekly promo and the spoiler photos make this event look entertaining as Will impersonates James Bond. Faith has always been more than a sidekick, so she'll also be fun to see in action.
If they're attending the wedding of one of Faith's friends, why is Will escorting them and not Luke? Since they encounter danger, Will and Faith should be there together.

The Conners rose like a phoenix out of the ashes of Roseanne, which was canceled despite a huge reboot season after leading lady Roseanne Barr’s controversial comments about Valerie Jarrett.
The series has been a strong performer for ABC, but could the show seriously be canceled ahead of a pre-planned final season?

Lucy Morales’ younger brother, a professor by trade, was as warm and charismatic as promised. At first it seemed like he and Will had nothing in common — that was, until it was revealed that Antonio is dyslexic, just like his nephew.

After the heaviness of the previous episode, Will Trent will return to heartwarming drama, levity, and humor in this upcoming installment.
The series excels at balancing both kinds of cases and character arcs, and spoilers for Will Trent Season 2 Episode 6 tease that Will will finally meet and connect with his long-lost uncle, Antonio Miranda.
Elsewhere in the episode, the Gbi and the Apd team up to solve a judge's murder, so they work together for two episodes in a row. From the spoiler photos, this case looks entertaining.
At the end of Will Trent Season 2 Episode 5, Will's Uncle Antonio reached out to him. Antonio Miranda is as curious about his nephew as Will is about him.
John Ortiz guest-stars as Antonio Miranda, who seems kind and charismatic and is eager to bond with Will.
While I'm anxious for Will to have a positive male role model, it feels like Lucy's brother got a total rewrite.

Since it premiered in January 2023, ABC's Will Trent has been a massive hit. The network just renewed the series for a third season, and the Gbi and Apd will return to solve more cases.
The renewal wasn't much of a surprise because Will Trent's ratings have risen to 4.8 million viewers and a .4 in the demo.
What makes Will Trent so intriguing to watch? Why is it different from other police procedurals? There are many reasons, but at its core are the characters.
Based on Karin Slaughter's best-selling novels, the hour-long procedural focuses on Special Agent Will Trent of the Gbi.
While no two series are the same, Will Trent is most similar to The Mentalist and Mobk, whose protagonists also see key details differently than most investigators. Adrian Monk also had a dark past, and digging into a character's past allows for more interesting storylines.

Amanda Wagner's centric was brutal to watch, and Sonja Sohn shined in this episode.
After watching Will Trent Season 2 Episode 5, it made perfect sense why Amanda was so silent and strong. She was attacked on the job in the 90s and had to hide it to get ahead in her career. Her past came back to haunt her yet again.
TV Fanatic chatted with Sonja Sohn about Amanda's past, how those secrets affect things with Will and Faith, and what other character-centric episodes were coming. Check out the interview below.
Hi Sonja. So, this episode showed Amanda’s strength. How much did you know about Amanda’s backstory going into the series?
I did not know anything about Amanda’s backstory, except that she had this connection to Will from the past, and she’d been keeping tabs on him. That’s the only thing I knew about her.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Will Trent Season 2 Episode 5 “Capt. After pulling a man over at night, she was viciously attacked by the driver and declined to report the assault after he drove away. That assailant went on to commit multiple subsequent atrocities to women, targeting them by putting nails in their tires so they’d have to pull over and be vulnerable to attack. Amanda took matters into...

It's the episode we've all been waiting for -- Amanda Wagner's character-centric.
At the end of Will Trent Season 2 Episode 4, Amanda received a threatening phone call, had a nail in her tire, and found another message in the elevator.
Spoilers for Will Trent Season 2 Episode 5 indicate that the attacks against Amanda are personal. Before the Gbi can narrow the suspects down much, Amanda is found hovering over a dead body.
