This futuristic dystopia movie is inspired in present Brazilian politics and its authoritarianism and anti-scientific activism. It is a movie that answers to the challenges imposed by Bolsonaro and his followers in Brazil. Its merits lie much more in its interesting general idea than properly in how it was built. Pace and text are not always the best, the story is predictable and not compelling. However, it is still amusing and a good effort that worth watching, particularly as it is a genre that is not very developed in the country and that it deals directly with pandemic and attacks on democracy, core early 2020's issues there.

Brazilian dystopian scifi at its best. This movie was made during the pandemic. It feels like you are watching 1984, Fahrenheit 451, Alphaville. The movie was filmed in English and Portuguese for the international market. Check out the Film Threat review: District 666 has one of the most classic finales of the new century. Synopsys: 2042 - humanity is in a lockdown imposed by the 2020 pandemic. Without vaccine developed, cities are divided into Districts, all of which are monitored 24/7. People can only withdraw supplies with vouchers they receive from the government. Yod, Laura, Jeff and Lisa grew up together in the District 666 and they dream of living a normal life, with no masks or isolation. The four of them team up to find out what is happening elsewhere in the world. Laura does online services for lonely men in exchange for vouchers containing secret messages about what is happening in other countries. Jeff is a nurse investigating sensitive data at the hospital. Lisa breaks into the System archives and contacts hackers in other countries. Yod monitors Madeleine, a retired infectologist. She is hiding a great secret, but when she tries to reveal it to Yod, she is murdered by the System.
