Fails where it should succeed and succeeds where it should fail.
contact-6702027 December 2017
The concept for this movie was a good one. Unfortunately the acting fell flat. But that's not the worse part. Acting in a movie like this isn't expected to be great. The worst part was the effects. They were just terrible. Not just low-budget "doing the best they can with what they have" terrible, but carelessly terrible. Even simple things like blood sprays were just done wrong.

Eeh, neither as bad or as good as they say
mike-ryan45516 June 2013
So, this has some pretty putrid ratings, despite more than 30% of the reviews giving it a perfect 10 point "greatest ever" rating. So why is it listed with a 2.5? How is that even possible? I'm guessing that IMDb realized that the 10's are done by the production staff and they tossed them out.

So, what is the quality of it? I'd rate it as SyFy channel grade. Yes, I could see this as one of those movies sandwiched between "Titanoboa meets Godzilla" and "The Monster Alligator From Space." So how did this turkey get made? As it is a "show within a show" movie, my guess is that somebody at some drunken party had an idea for how to make a movie that was SO cheap that it HAD to make a profit. As such, I've seen a whole lot worse. I rated it a 4 because there is no 3.5, which is what I'd give it if I could. It definitely ranked above a 2.5 in production values, acting and originality.

Stumbing toward the finish
jmbovan-47-1601736 May 2020
Well, it started okay with a standard "ghost hunter" show from the behind the scenes perspective. It never explored the supernatural aspects much focusing more on personal motivations. And the twist at the end. The acting was shaky at first, but the last bit of the movie displayed the weakness of the actors all the more. Sigh. Okay, I did finish it, and production while decidedly low budget wasn't overly poor. The main actor seemed decent enough to carry the film.

No it's not a good indie film, it's not a good film at all.
MrBelette17 November 2012
I watch this movie after reading the only review available on IMDb. Too bad I didn't check the message board before. The person who wrote the review, studio scarab, also appears on the board talking about "our" film. No wonder the review is good if it comes from someone who worked on it ! The movie is on the level of a bad TV movie The story, the directing, the acting, all this is really bad.

That's one more example of fake review about a movie that is bad and seems even badder when members of the crew seem desperate enough to use such attempts to make people watch it.

At least if it was worth it, but sadly it's not, far from it.

Don't waste your time or your money on this.

Better than expected
jbrbsmom26 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Sadly, I watch a LOT of this type of movie. Happily, this one is better than most. The ending was decent and better than expected, even if mostly unbelievable. If you can overlook that the plot has some major holes in it and come in with low expectations and just go for the entertainment values an otherwise boring evening, you will find it pretty good. There was actually a scene in it that made me jump, so would even have spent $1 renting it and been OK with it, which I usually don't advise.

Poorly written, poorly acted
j_m_enloe8 June 2017
Even the Star Trek talent in this movie couldn't save it. The writing is so very poor as is the delivery of the lines. I mean they're trying hard, maybe a little too hard. The lines are delivered without any conviction or with an over-the-top conviction. Music is overdone and often too loud for the dialog. It's just bad on every level. Save your self the time, skip it and find something else to watch.

Spectacularly Bad
heatherjzs8 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I really enjoy horror movies and have seen so many of them that I have to dig deep in Amazon and Netflix to find new ones that I haven't watched. Many times I have found hidden gems that were worth taking a chance on...this is not one of those times. This movie was so spectacularly bad that I had to hunt it down on IMDb and write a review to try to save others from watching it. It was hard to find because it is actually called "1,2,3 Scream" on Amazon. I finally found it by searching some of the actors filmographies, although some of the actors are apparently not admitting they are in it. My guess is that they are as sad that they were in the movie, as I am for watching it. I am guessing that some rich producer's spoiled child needed to "make a movie" for some class, and this is the result. The dialogue and direction were so awful that good actors came across as terrible, the story is ridiculous and it is NOT a horror movie. Do yourself a favor and pay no attention to the obviously planted reviews that are giving this movie a 9 or 10, and don't waste your time on this crap.

If Lifetime and the Hallmark Channel Got Together...
tmccull529 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
... and made a "horror" movie, I imagine that it would be very much like this movie; zero scares, terrible special effects, and scenery-chewing, over-the-top, hammy acting. "1, 2, 3... Snore" would be the more appropriate title.

The premise is that we have an intrepid band of film-makers, ostensibly out to film the pilot episode for a paranormal investigations reality television show. During the filming of this pilot, one of the show's co-host is killed when she is knocked through the second story window in a supposedly haunted ranch house. The actress portraying the other host gives a performance worthy of an inflatable love doll with a slow leak.

The crew takes the body of the dead girl back to the lodge where their headquarters has been set up, and it is here that the movie takes a hugely stupid, completely implausible turn. The cameraman tells the others that he had found evidence of mechanical tampering at the ranch house. At this point, the director whips out a stainless steel Beretta 92F 9mm pistol, and brandishes it at the others. They won't spoil his plans for fame and wealth, he exclaims, they won't! He admits to the chicanery uncovered by the cameraman, and tells the others that they're going to do everything that he tells them to. This show has to be a success!

The crew breaks away and flees, prompting the director and his henchman to hunt them down. There is a fight between the cameraman that is almost as believable as a school yard fight between petulant third-graders.

"Cheesy" "corny" and utterly, horribly clicked are the words that might best describe this movie. I would not have all been surprised to see Fred, Daphne, Velma, Shaggy, and Scooby show up in the Mystery Machine at one point.

There are a few problems that the director in the movie didn't seem to find troublesome. Even if he had succeeded in getting the crew to finish the pilot, at gunpoint, didn't he think any of them would go to the authorities afterward? When he is later asked about this, he says that the producers of the show will buy whatever he presents them as part of the show. The fact that all of the potential witnesses were killed wouldn't raise any red flags, apparently. To prove this point, he shoots and kills another one of the cast in front of the cameraman.

To say that the plotholes are both glaring and enormous would be monumental understatements. This movie is a study of the patently ridiculous and the implausible. The cheesiest, corniest, sappiest Lifetime movie ever made would seem Academy Award worthy compared to this turd of a movie.

Excellent Indie Film, even if you don't like ghost hunter shows.
studioscarab5 February 2012
I've had the opportunity to review the screener before the film was released, and was pleasantly surprised. End of the Road has some names you'll know like Doug Jones and Robert Picardo, but also some I've never heard of. At first this film seems like it's going to deliver just what is expected, a film about some ghost hunters, but without spoiling anything, I can tell you "watch it til the end", because I'm guessing you won't have seen it coming. I doubt this film had a big budget to work with, but it seems like they made every penny count. Really solid performances and story without all the H'wood cheesiness from the studio films. Check it out.

I enjoyed this flim, it was different with a feel good plot twist. Yes, it's not a horror and it's not perfect, but it surprised me and I would watch it again.

A low budget thrill ride with big heart.
shaunanthony23 March 2014
End of the Road is a thrilling, fun-filled film with a twisted plot that appropriately places it beside films such as The Game, Sixth Sense, and Fight Club. Like these films, End of the Road is a movie that should be watched once for the thrill of its revelations, and then multiple times to experience anew the intricate way it was crafted to excite and deceive. The cinematic views brilliantly depict the isolated location while still drawing you in with their majesty. A comfortable cabin invites you to stay and experience the suspense and unease as the plot unravels. Once you're settled, the remote setting, rusted ranch machinery and weather-worn abandoned buildings create a perfect backdrop for the restless spirits to encroach on the non-believers. The cast is a great mix of industry heavy-hitters and talented newcomers. Doug Jones brings great character strength to the film, and this time with his own expressive face! Michael Dorn does well in a familiar style, and yet only serves up the first minor paradigm shift of this marvelously meandering movie. Robert Picardo is well cast, his easy-then-eerie presence a perfect herald to an uneasy feeling that our hero may have been misled. The rest of the cast are brilliant in strength and subtlety, but don't get too attached to anyone… the danger is palpable almost from the very beginning. Some consideration has to be given to production level, script, and range of acting ability in this movie. These elements are of reduced impact compared to the larger budget movies it resembles. Even so, what this film does as well as it could with a lower cost, it does with heart. The public has been fed candied special effects, overacted comedy, and needless violence for a long time. While the mobs might feel this movie is not ready for the big screen, neither would they tolerate a classic like North by Northwest - if it weren't for Alfred Hitchcock's name on the poster. This creation has to be experienced in its entirety to be truly appreciated. It may suffice to say that the viewer will only understand the depth of the movie if they suspend judgment until the credits are about to roll. There's no other way to experience the full range of emotions that it can bring. The mystery builds without apology throughout the film and yet it still delivers an ending with confident resolve. Sit on the edge of your seat, drink in the danger, and hang on for the suspense to end in surprise... at the End of the Road!

Fun And Enjoyable Film With Strong Cast And Superb Writing
webmistressdiane3 May 2015
This film was a rather pleasant surprise. I watched it online via Amazon, but would love to get my hands on a copy of the DVD, as I feel this is a film worth owning.

I watched this film initially because of the cast, and they didn't disappoint. The characters were compelling and believable with appropriate reactions to their scenarios.

While the overall acting was strong, it was the clever writing and story that kept me hooked. The ending has a major twist that I didn't see coming - and this is coming from a person who can typically guess the entire plot within ten minutes of a film. It is more a comedy than a horror to me, but there's definitely a few scenes with intensity and 'shocks'. Well worth the watch!

Fun Film
eirwen-4254810 December 2020
Not what I was expecting, but in a good way. And it's not a FF film, which bumped up the over all rating.

Fun twist on the reality TV ghost hunting genre.

Although there does seem to be some confusion regarding the name of the movie. I found it on Amazon under the title "1, 2, 3... Scream"

Stars are given based on my personal enjoyment of the film and plot.

8- Good movie, I'd give it another watch in the future.
