Just bad

Warning: Spoilers
Sorry but this version was terrible and I am a William Levy fan. I have seen the original and the telenovela version which both were great. With this one, I think I saw William Levy having intimacy with more women than anything else.

This is was such an insult to the book and the author. I know they wanted to change things around but they just made it worst. First, what they did with the Mercerdes and her daughter. Edmundo was just sleeping around with all these women but where was his vengeance? I get it, he's hot but I feel like they focused more on what he was doing with his personal life than what this entire story was suppose to be about which was vengeance for being incarcerated for a crime he didn't commit.

Also did they really have to put Mercerdes in that institution? And what was up with the daughter? She looked too old to be his child. Overall, I was not impressed with this version.

Not as good as I thought it was going to be

***it does not contain spoilers***** This series could have been a great production but unfortunately it disappoints in the end. Very good locations and the plot is well built but the casting is very weak and the scenes of action are not well achieved. I will give it a 6. It seems that it was created to make shine William Levy, unnecessary and not credible sex scenes. There is no chemistry between the main characters, lack of emotion and credibility in a lot of scenes and actors/actresses.

The production company has been very brave by adapting a classing book into a modern and contemporary story.

Unbelievably bad

This is by far the worst novel adaption I've seen in my entire life. It is an insult to the original work of art from Dumas. I was full of expectation when I saw that there was a new adaption of the Count of Monte Cristo. This feeling changed very quickly when I started waching the first episode. They tried to bring the actual story from the 18th century to the present day, that might not be the actual problem but the story, the screenplay and the acting performance overall are very bad and disappointing. This series is the worst I can remember. I have to admit that I'm an big fan of the original work of Alexandre Dumas, so probably my expectations were a little too high, but this series is just a disgrace in many ways. I liked very much the film from 2002 starring Jim Caviezel and Guy Pierce. I also liked the french version with Gerard Depardieu. But this one, I'm sorry, but I couldn't imagine something worse. Watching the 6 episodes were an authentic waste of time... I gave 2 stars for some pretty landscapes appearing which was the only nice thing I can remember...

English Please!

I am a great fan of William Levy not his best day in this series, no empathy, no warmth and definitely not the Montecristo I read about!!! A little too much sex that made absolutely no sense in the story, it definitely wasn't the MONTECRSTO.. William Levy in Cafe de Aroma was the William Levy I like to see, warm, compassionate, loving kind to children and respectful to others. I wish in the future that he would have English subtitles so us US citizens can understand it..The best part of the series was the most beautiful scenes of the different places they were and oceans they were. The author of Montecristo would be saddened.

This adaptation is an insult to the book
josianehomemqueri15 April 2023
The development, and ending, of the entire series is an insult to Alewxandre Dumas' classic.

That adaptation along with the 2002 American version are the two worst adaptations of the book. And the film The Prisoner of Château d'If (1988) by Georgi Yungvald-Khilkevich is the best version.. Viktor Avilov may not be as handsome as Willaim Levy and Jim Caviezel, but The Prisoner of Château d'If's screenplay is far superior to those two adaptations put together.

The screewriters may have tried to transport the story to the present day, but not only did they do that, they completely rewrote the story. No screenwriter is better than Alexandre Dumas.

Perhaps William Levy's fans praised the story of the series because of the author's beauty, but I want to see how they will do to praise this series, which is terrible.

The count of Monte of Monte Cristo would be a mixture of The Odyssey by Homer with Crime and Punishment by Dostoevsky. With the redemption of the protagonist who regrets his revenge and forgives, he has a new beginning with Haydee just as Raskonilkov had with Sonia.

The film the three musketeers by Martin Bourboulon, based on another classic by Alexandre Dumas, no matter how many defects this adaptation has, this version manages to be much better.

Just Excelent!!!
jabrahammendez15 April 2023
I completely agree with the original comment regarding the series being an excellent adaptation of "The Count of Monte Cristo". The production value was truly exceptional, and the performances given by the actors were top-notch. William Levy's portrayal of the main character was particularly noteworthy - it was arguably his best performance to date. However, it would be remiss not to mention the talented Esmeralda Pimentel, who delivered a fantastic performance as well.

The series adaptation stayed true to the essence of the classic novel, while also managing to bring a fresh perspective to the story. It was gripping and kept me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. I found the storyline to be well-crafted, and the pacing was just right - it never felt too slow or too rushed.

Regarding the negative comments, I couldn't agree more with the original poster's statement. It's unfortunate that some people feel the need to leave negative comments just for the sake of causing trouble. I would highly recommend giving this series a chance, as it's truly entertaining and well worth the watch. In short, the "Count of Monte Cristo" adaptation is a superb production that deserves all the accolades it can get.

Umm Mmmmmmmm no no no. I am A big fan of the story, the book and all of them movies that they played in the past. Also loved the Jim caviezel one with Guy pierce. It was exciting to watch it glued you to the screen. It was exciting to see how he would plot his revenge. And disguise himself as as The count of montecristo. But this miniseries lost me. As others have pointed out they modernized it and it lost its touch plus. It's not exciting at all just a bunch of sex scenes like others have commented and I agree that were not necessary to see William levy having. I do like him but not for this role I am sorry to say I also like Esmeralda pimentel and I thought she was pretty good but not enough to save this.... Very bad bad bad bad at times I would lose track in what I was watching it's awful would not recommend unless you want to see William levy have sex with everyone.

Loving it!

Great series. Love story line and film locations. All characters are great, would love to see more !!!!

From the original which was dark I am truly enjoying all the twists and turns of the story line. The more I watched the more I was unable to stop from going to next episode.

Cast is amazing and I don't want it to end. Just 1 episode left out of 6. Binge worthy !!!!!!!

Anyone comparing it to the original book is completely out of touch. This is not meant to be a classic in the same sense as reading it. No comparison and it purely entertaining! I was not disappointed at all and would watch again!

Edmund Dantes becomes a Playboy

Boring, unengaging and predictable.

William Levy is a wanna-be James Bond whose acting skills are nowhere up to par with the actors in those movies. His acting is very dull, robotic and to top it off he has not learned how to properly enunciate after twenty years of career. Just because he appears shirtless any chance he has does not make this series any better. On top of all, Esmeralda Pimentel and William have very little chemistry.

The poor dialogues, bad action scenes and vulgar sex scenes end up making this a series that is just not worth recommending. It underdelivers as a thriller and as an action series. Hard to understand how you can mess up a classic such as The Count of Montecristo, but this "modern" series misshandled the core of the story quite badly and tried to compensate with by using William's body as bait. In conclusion, a flop.

Riveting ... even when you kind of know how it ends
villajmr19 April 2023
Just five minutes into the first episode and I was hooked. Sometimes I got a little lost (thankful for the 10-second rewind) but I think that is because I'm not a native Spanish speaker. Sure, there are lots of deviations from Dumas's book, but it doesn't matter--the same can be said of "remakes" of other classics. Performances are top notch; it's good to see Levy delving into roles beyond the telenovela galán, although he has done quality work there as well. Other actors in this production are new to me, but all gave excellent performances and totally convincing. Montecristo is well worth watching!

The TV show differs from the book, and the movies we saw previously. The new story is more adapted to today's world: oppression, lies, corruption, and revenge. William Levy did an outstanding job playing the character. I loved the ending; it is a great message. We need to let go of the past and move forward no matter what.

As for the people complaining about intimacy scenes for the first time, I see those scenes as part of the story. When he was with Mercedes, I didn't see love; I saw anger, and Levy did that well. The other relationships were part of the vendetta plan. Great Job, Willaim Levy.
