Jungle Love review :
There are two ways a Tarzan story can go. One is his adventure with animals meant for kids. The other is his encounter with Jane bordering on soft porn. Bollywood has invariably chosen the later part for portraying Tarzan in their movie endeavors.
B. Subhash started the trend with the Hemant Birje- Kimi Katkar hit and the 'bhed- chaal' followed. Many B grade jungle movies popped up like Jungle Beauty (1991), Jungle Ka Beta (1992) and Jungal Ki Beti (1988) to name a few. In fact, Jungal Ki Beti had Salma Agha in the titular role as Lady Tarzan but all these films bombed at the box office and were dismissed as sleazy stuff.
Jungle Love, released in mid 1990, turned out to be a surprise box office success and almost seemed a follow up to B Subhash's Adventures of Tarzan (1985) though the team was completely different. The film had newcomers Rocky as Tarzan and the gorgeous Kirti Singh as his Jane. There were the proverbial villains like Goga Kapoor, Mahesh Anand and Shiva Rindani to act as the hurdle in their pursuit of love.
There were lot many erotic scenes and 'wet in the waterfall' dances to keep the front benchers happy. A sub plot involved a kingdom called Roopnagar which is only inhabited by women. Amusingly, TV Mahabharat's Yudhisthir Gajendra Chauhan was cast as a lecherous creep here who lands up in Roopnagar and meets his untimely end. Hmmm!!
The only Tarzan movie to hit the bullseye after the B. Subhash directorial. And yup, Kirti Singh hots it up just like Kimi Katkar. Well, almost!!
