- Tanya lands Ray the "white whale" of clients, but an emergency involving Damon, which began with his debut at a poetry slam, threatens to derail the date. With Mike at the end of his teaching rope, Ray decides to promote him to co-manager of the baseball team. Jessica is peeved with Ronnie for being overly suspicious.—HBO Publicity
- Open with Ray having a lousy day: Car runs out of gas, steps in a puddle, etc. When he arrives at school he gets a standing ovation from some of his players which picks up his spirits a little.
When he gets to his office Ray finds a disgruntled Mike throwing things around the locker room. Mike is upset about his personal life and career and thinks he should quit coaching. Mike just got terrible mid-semester reviews from his students. Ray has Mike repeat the mantra: "Today is a great day and I feel wonderful."
Tanya meets wealthy widow Francis at a blood drive. She is able to convince Francis of the value of having dinner with a handsome man. Francis appears to get on board with the idea of dinner with Ray.
The team of Ray, Tanya and Lenore meet in a park. Lenore refuses to get close to Tanya, saying Horny Patty is still traumatized from the kidnapping. Tanya tells Ray about dinner with Francis: "I booked Moby Dick." Ray will get $500 for dinner.
With Darby in the crowd at the poetry slam, Damon reads a poem about being a twin entitled "Sac." He gets a so-so reaction from the audience but Darby is mortified. She calls it "embarrassing" and wants them to leave. On his way out a man asks Damon if he wants to "get sconed." Damon buys three.
Jessica and Ronnie are having sex when Damon and Darby get home. Damon is acting strange. Darby tells Damon she didn't like the poem because it made them sound like freaks. During sex Ronnie grills Jessica about whether she's stopped taking birth control, even admitting that went through her purse and noticed she didn't throw away the pills. Jessica is furious and storms out of the room naked, with equally naked Ronnie right behind her. Damon sees all of this from the top of the stairs.
While Ray gets ready for his dinner with Francis, Darby calls and says Damon is acting completely weird. Darby thinks the scones might have had marijuana in them. With Jessica and Ronnie fighting, Darby wants Ray to come over and handle it.
Patty has scheduled Tanya for three shifts in a row. Patty is trying to get more free sex with Ray. A furious Tanya says she's going to cut Patty off, then gets a call from Ray saying he's going to have to bail on Francis. Ray is upset that Damon got the "pot scones" from her poetry friends. After Ray hangs up Tanya pretends to confirm with Ray that they are not going to be servicing Patty. Tanya tells Patty she will not be working three consectutive shifts and leaves in a huff.
Ray stops by Mike's place and asks him to fill-in on the dinner with Francis. He tells Mike only that there are some women who pay to have dinner with men.
With Damon babbling incoherently, Tanya stops by to beg Ray to keep the date with Francis. She thinks they have to cancel and Ray tells her he got a "sub."
Jessica and Ronnie talk to Darby about why he suddenly went to Ray's place. Darby tells them he saw them naked and it freaked him out. Ronnie thinks Damon overreacted and Jessica wonders whether that is the kind of attitude he would take with their child.
As Damon rests in bed, Tanya reads "Sac." She thinks it's beautiful. Damon thinks Darby hates him and tells Tanya she can have the poem. Ray finally tells Tanya that Mike is the one who is with Francis. Tanya begins to freak out and is convince they "lost the white whale." He says he'll call Francis the following day and apologize.
We cut to the end of Mike and Francis' meal. Mike seems to have enjoyed himself and picks up the tab.
We see Mike appears to be energized in class. Ray tracks him down and asks about Francis. Mike says he's really interested in Francis and she wants to see him again. As Ray walks away confused Mike yells at him: "Today is a great day and I feel wonderful!"
