Definitely an odd mixture which is often the case with shows or movies from Australia. I found the constant swearing really hard to take the first time I tried to watch, but it actually 'fits' the character 'Cleaver'. The writing is very funny at times, charming and realistic at others, and way too unbelievable in certain scenarios. The acting is generally really good and the adult dialogue well suited to the characters, but it really takes patience and acceptance that this is a complicated and mixed bag of emotions being presented. I really hated the parts where drugs are taken as a matter of fact and the graphic violence was a bit too prominent. This series has its moments though and explores many complex and important issues, often in a very funny way which you laugh at despite yourself. Watch it and accept it for what it is. Another one-off Aussie offering that has no equal. Mr. Roxborough is clearly a very talented person, be it for the writing or acting. It's important to watch this for us non-Aussies with subtitles so you don't miss the nuanced references and very witty script. Some scenes are just plain silly and some are actually tragic or sad, so prepare for a roller-coaster of entertainment.
