Tech is "bad"

The whole thing the episode is dependent on is that technology is evil (yet the plant is the villain go figure). Christian is a guy living in a poorly lit apartment while being swamped at work. He uses his version of Alexa to help him in his work, including to remember to drink water and sleep. Although the fact that the AI controls all of the lights and appliances are excessive, a lot of people need something to remind them to drink and sleep. If anything the main character is taking care of himself more than the average person besides not getting enough sun.

He was working towards getting a beautiful house out in the woods, trying to get out of his current life like his partner was saying to do and was so angry about.

Personally, they should've had Christian's partner Ben team up with the plant or something because minus the fact that Christian would text while you talked (which is toxic) Ben was the one that was in the wrong.

Yes, Of Course

It takes real talent to come up with a new horror story. How many times have we seen sentient plants take over. A couple of gay men are estranged for a time because one of them is totally absorbed in his high tech job. Half way through, a child could have guessed the conclusion.

Warning: Spoilers
I get the writers have to do a whole "wokeness" theme but the actors were not only bad but completely mismatched. There was no chemistry, no feeling between them. It felt like they were complete strangers who just happened to be in the same room. It might have worked if they kept Christian and got a new Ben. I was not at all surprised that Ben turned out to be a gold digging sleaze. It would have worked fine with a woman instead of Ben but really any other actor would have worked.

Warning: Spoilers
So other than the cringe-worthy token uses of a gav couple (just to show how normal it is) The actual horror premise and delivery is amazing I grew up on the twilight zone marathon every New Year's Eve being a big thing. Three of my family members are published authors, so it becomes a big thing about who can introduce the Newest philosophy that culture has to bring. This short literally does justice down from the decorator of the light fixture behind the main character in his office, down to the animatronics and prop/clay design of the actual plant.

Spoilers: only a spoiler if you haven't seen it. Mainly a comment on how powerful and frightening that final scene of him in the bathroom with the clippers buzzing while the tendrils slowly creep more and more around him. THIS is what I want in a horror. This is the scene that truly got me and frightened me. Well done. I may disagree with the politics of everyone on your staff but I can truly appreciate what a incredible work this was.
