Solid but lacking a little X-factor and punch
jtindahouse11 November 2023
Short review: I've seen this before where if a film was able to clock out at around the 60-70 minute mark it would be perfect, but the expectation/demand to reach 90 minutes kills it. 'Your Lucky Day' is a fine enough film, but it doesn't quite have enough in the chamber to stretch the concept out to 90 minutes.

The film has a nice simple premise and a single-setting location that works well. The characters are all pretty bleak people, but they're entertaining enough for the most part. Everything is solid, but nothing is spectacular - and for that reason I fear this film won't be overly memorable for me. 6.5/10.

loses me with the cops
SnoopyStyle7 January 2024
Drug dealer Sterling (Angus Cloud) gets rolled. He is one of the patrons in a convenience store when a customer discovers that he won the $156 million lottery jackpot. Sterling decides to steal the ticket and all heck brings loose.

I don't watch Euphoria, but I do remember Angus Cloud's death. There is a powerful unstable energy about him. He is very cinematic and magnetic. I completely buy his impulsiveness and recklessness. He also has an endearing quality and is able maintain the rooting interest. I like the first half. Sterling has no plan with the robbery and the story flows from that. I assume that the rest of the people are partly playing Sterling to stay alive. Whatever plans they come up with is to appease Sterling. That part works. The problem is that there is no perfect crime in this after the messy killing. That doesn't matter since Sterling is not the sharpest mind. The crooked cops are a big problem. They would never get away with it. Sterling can have no plan. If the cops have no good plan, then the movie suffers and it's bad writing. This is half-good. The second half loses me.

Mega Ticket to Hell: Your Lucky Day
babyjaguar14 November 2023
These actors' performances stand out, making this indie film gem looking at class, race, etc. By Dan Brown stand tall. Jessica Garza as Ana Marlene did wonderful, and is the scene stealer! Angus Cloud begin the story as a small time drug dealer, Sterling who happens to be present when a lottery winner get a "golden" ticket, looking at a jackpot over 100 million.

All of the film takes place at a Los Angeles corner store, owed by Amir played by Mousa Hussein Kaiser. Sterling tries to get the ticket from a winner, Mr. Laird played by Spencer Garrett when tragedy strikes as a cop accidentally shoots the wrong person. The tension is raised with other captives in this store hold up.

This film as an action thiller, evokes the tension from even John Carpenter's Assault on 13 th Percint. There are plot twists, in the midst of the story. The question of the haves and have nots, making this film to take unexpected turns.

This film was dedicated to Angus Cloud, who died recently in 2023. Remember if indie films that critique issues of racism and classism, are not your choice, this film maybe not for you.

One of the most intense thrillers I've seen in a while
TheDome8110 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Who doesn't like a good thriller? Well, this one had me hooked right off the bat. After a punk kid gets robbed, he visits a local convenience store. There an older gentleman wins the lottery and shouts about it. Well, that's just an open invitation to get robbed. And that's exactly what happens.

The young man puts on a mask and pulls a gun on the lottery winner. After a scuffle, the winner and a cop get shot. This is where the intrigue begins. The hood realizes he can't just kill everybody, so the bargaining starts. The store's owner and a young couple negotiate splitting the money.

It keeps getting more and more involved. All the while, the tension gets cranked up to 11! This movie was so intense, I had twitch something lighter before I hit the hay. It was that edgy. Now I'm not saying it was a great film by any means. But if you're looking for an intense thriller, give it a go!

Greed gives you bad ideas.
deloudelouvain2 April 2024
Your Lucky Day isn't a high budget movie. It shows in the image quality so I would say the cinematography could be better. But other than that it's an entertaining thriller with constant action so you have not time to get bored. Angus Cloud just died of a drug overdose at the young age of 25 so this was one of his last jobs. Too bad he couldn't handle life as he had talent. The rest of the cast were also convincing. Maybe the story was a bit far fetched to some but then again when we're talking about a jackpot of 156 millions people might get the wrong ideas so not that far fetched in the end. Watchable low budget thriller/crime.

Hey Everybody, I just hit the Lottery!
nogodnomasters1 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
A man uses a scanner in the Sip 'N' Go convenience store and hits the $156 Million lottery. Rather than quietly fold the ticket and stick it in his pocket he announces it to the entire store. The store includes a young couple with a pregnant woman (Jessica Garza) who will eventually become our protagonist and a criminal (Angus Cloud) who was just robbed of his drugs. A gun comes out a man and a cop are shot. The clerk (Mousa Hussein Kraish) deletes the tapes at gunpoint. Eventually, the four of them decide to work together to cover things up and split the money. Abraham (Elliot Knight) has cold feet but goes along. Eventually, bad cops discover what is going on and start shooting, rather than just show up.

They made the plot more twisted and ridiculous than it needed to be. Three matches? Lucky her. It is not as if convenience stores don't carry butane lighters with a nine-inch flame. We see a pregnant woman work to outsmart seasoned cops. That was the entertainment of a film that mostly takes place in one location. I didn't like it as much as my peers. A guy steals the ticket. What happens when he goes to cash it?

Guide: Not much swearing. Magazine nudity.

Very good! Just a bit to long movie for what it was
stayspek11 April 2024
Alright, so full disclosure, I mainly tuned in because of Angus - that dude was awsome fly high! But you know what? The movie surprised me, it's actually pretty solid. It really gets you in the feels, and the gore scenes? Not bad at all, definitely better than some other flicks I've seen. The ending? That's where it's at, really ties things together. The beginning's decent too, but that middle part? Nah, not my cup of tea. Overall though, it's like a wild rollercoaster ride, with ups and downs but totally worth the ticket. I feel like it could have been executed a tiny bit better! But also not saying anything was done wrong because i cant point out what i would have changed! Might just be because i dont like single set movies!

dumb, idiotic, dumb
gehete-4094916 November 2023
I was suprised when I first saw the initial 7.5 ratings, bad b list actors, very rage baity premise and a title with very little imagination. This ought to be a below average thriller flick direct to tv and I was right.

It is about a group of people hostage to a violent young thug who is trying to convince them to stay quiet about his violent theft of a winning lottery ticket. The premise is actually intruiging at first as you see the hostages being swayed by the promise of millions of dollars in lottery winnings. A lot of happens in the middle of the movie and the ending is very lazy, expected social messaging. It's that kind of movie, a movie with the premise as a hook and nothing to show for it. It is supposed to be, you would assume, a study on human nature and how morality goes out the window if the stakes are high. Very little of that, the actors wouldn't have been able to pull it off anyway, still what we get is cheap action instead. What a waste. What a bad movie.

Predictable with plot holes
wynikd17 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
About a third of the way into this movie, I started sensing plot holes and continuously kept asking myself "but what about "enter plot hole here".

I kept hoping it would get all wrapped up like a box in the end; however there were just more and more questions left unanswered---most importantly--what story were they going to use? It's as if there is no such thing as forensic evidence. We have a one bad guy dead shot from a rifle 50 yards away through the window, an on duty cop dead, along with his known, dirty cop dad (who as off duty) dead by being bludgeoned to death, another guy with a slit through in the cooler, a waitress with everyone's blood on them, and never mind a dead guy in the back of his car with dead cops gun with him. No way is the Lottery Commission going to release the money and the cops not have a million questions.

I wouldn't have continued to watch it if I was along.

Engaging from start to finish
mikelpcl19 November 2023
For some reason I had little hope for this one, but once I started I just had to watch the whole thing.

There no need for a big budget when you know when you are doing and you write up a good script.

No fillers, no fluff, no vacuous metaphors, ... Enought for you to understand the characters and to make you care about them.

Yeah, it leans on some stereotypes. And that's ok. That's what stereotypes exist for.

The action is also well done as well, by the way. Nothing flashy, just effective stuff that they let you clearly see.

Perfectly well done and perfectly enjoyable.

They could have used more money to get more famous actors and more flashy unrealistic action... but to be honest it doesn't it it; I'd say that it'd even make it more showbusiness-y and less storytelling-y.

Congrats to the team. Well done you.

Premise had potential
miinty21 November 2023
This premise had major potential.

I think this movie needed to be really serious and believable or a black comedy.. The idea was good - what would you do? Who's the good guy/bad guy.. the thing with this movie is that it's very obvious who's who.. there's really no grey zone consideration and really any sort of moral dilemma (Which I think would've added to the story.) except for some throw away lines. "We shouldn't... I can't." Ohh, shut up.

It was just a little lacking in something overall.

It was nice to see "Bosco" again. That's a plus. I need 47 more characters to say that this is a good idea done very poorly.

I hope someone can take this premise and run with it because I do want to see how the events of this movie play out... in a more realistic or black comedy way.

Fast forwarded from 1/3 of the way in just to see how this terrible movie ended
daddypilley15 April 2024
Predictable, the acting was horrid. Sometimes you get lucky with these movies with no name actors and they turn out great. This was not one of those times. The pregnant girl was hard to watch. She is the main reason I fast forwarded. It had potential, unfortunately they didn't see that. If they would have evolved it outside of the store, it would have been a lot better. Would have been cool to see someone cash it in then try to rip everyone off by not following through with the payment and THEN everything hitting the fan. I wasn't expecting it to all stay within the store itself. Just needed more structure to give it a better base.

Sad to hear the main dude passed from an overdose.

Solid suspenseful film!
Roshanraymond10 January 2024
Went into it with low expectations but was pleasantly entertained!

They built up the characters quite well and although there were limited cast, they carried the film with their acting.

The desperation of the characters meant you could not really guess where the story would go and kept you wanting to find out what happens and even rooting for certain characters.

In some films, you can get frustrated at the common sense of the characters but they acted a lot out of instincts and survival so made you agree with their decisions (sometimes!)

Apart from some parts, makes you wonder what you would do in the situation.

Something original at last
wvnrrbc13 March 2024
After looking for so long to n the past several years to find a movie without a pretentious script, more dedicated to a bias message or just bad writing I was delighted to see this pop up. Yes it involved cops being bad but at least it had some logic to it. With neither characters being utterly good or bad, they are just human. This movie felt like they were following a story and a vision instead of an agenda, as that seems to be the norm nowadays. And to me it's always impressive if you can film a whole movie in the same location and keep the story entertaining and believable. There were some plot holes but nothing that bothered me at all and that is exactly what is so hard to find. Congratulations to the writers and producers for not giving in to the mainstream.

Great plot!
askbigunc16 November 2023
Excellent movie to watch. It had excitement, drama, plot twist and violence. I don't often write reviews, but I had to let everyone know this is a good movie to watch. The roller coaster ride kept you on your toes, guessing all throughout the movie. Now that I think about it, as I'm writing this writing this review they really did pack a lot into this movie. It was intellectual, violent, an absolute page turner. You literally anticipated every moment of the movie. Oh, and then I mentioned it was violent. Like some Quentin Tarantino film noir. It is not for the faint of heart. All that said, I'll give this Movie a solid 10. And like I said, I don't usually write reviews but this movie was really fun and enjoyable to watch.

Clever and intriguing
hauler-312397 March 2024
What would you do?

That's what's fun to ask when watching this movie.

Sometimes I get burned out of the high budget Hollywood films, Your Lucky Day is refreshing fun and suspenseful, when you're watching this movie ask yourself what would you do? Angus cloud is classic Angus. This character you could tell is a very natural character for Angus to play.

He's on point, all the supporting cast are exactly what the film intends. Everybody wants to be a hard-core critic, I say, have fun enjoy the up-and-coming not with just this movie but any other movie that is not a super high budget mainstream Hollywood flick.

I was on the edge of my seat the entire time!!!!!

Warning: Spoilers
This movie was amazing, the actors were perfect, and this movie really had me on the edge of my seat the entire time I was watching it. Tons of twists and turns, it was just so good. I don't know why some people gave this movie a bad review, this is the kind of movie that's gonna stick with me for a long time. The movie makes you feel bad for the original bad guy in a way, you almost can't hate any one character completely, I love how complex and realistic this movie is, and a badass female "hero" or "final girl", what's not to love about this movie? It really makes you think, what would you do in this scenario?

Am Amazing Thriller!
epogue-4826217 November 2023
This is definitely one of the best thrillers I've seen in many years. About halfway through I thought to myself how could this movie possibly end and I could not have envisioned the ending in any way shape or form. Very literally an edge of your seat thriller that should not be missed this is a sleeper hit for sure. And definitely in the vein of Reservoir dogs.

Definitely don't pass this film up if you have the opportunity to watch it do it, if for any other reason it's a excellent case study of what would you do?

And to tell you just how much I enjoyed this film, this is the first time I've ever written a review of a film on IMDb.

A Very Good Suspensful Film!
djrmc2424 March 2024
Your Lucky Day was a crazy good experience. Certainly not what I was expecting watching the trailer or reading the plot description. Angus Cloud does a really good job in here with one of his last roles before his untimely passing. The acting is stellar from the remaining cast and keeps everything grounded. The movie begs the question what would you do in this situation? Would you do what is right or turn to greed? The film starts off with a lot of intensity and quickly escalates as the film goes on. You have to give this movie a watch to see how everything unfolds! Trust me you will be surprised! Your Lucky Day gets a very good 8 stars out of 10.

Damn Good Movie
rlatson2712 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
If a robber & found money are staring you in the face, whose side are you on? Do the right thing, take that trauma, survive, & watch as no one gets to cash in that winning ticket... Or go along w/the robber, take that trauma, survive, & split the winnings... The moral gray area looks pretty damn good from the situation, b/c the cop stops the robbery by shooting the victim, not the thief. The victim dies instantly, but the cop gets shot in the shoulder; not the neck as it appears. Enter the cops, corrupt father, & his merry band of thieves... It's a damn good film, reminds me of The Lookout (2007), w/Joseph Gordon Levitt.

Angus was brilliant, & the film is dedicated to him. I immediately cared about the characters & none of them were all around wholesome. As the characters begin to discuss cashing in the ticket, it becomes imperative that the lotto commission isn't going to ask questions. Shady characters aren't going to pass muster & collect $156 million from the Cali Lottery. Human nature in these previous reviews seems to escape ppl. I'm guessing ppl never watched the Shield or any movie w/dirty cops. I saw a lot of disbelief, like it's science fiction or something. I detect a touch of misogyny as if this woman is supposed to be brain dead, b/c of her occupation & cops are some sort of infallible freaking geniuses. I read the news about ppl killing their own parents for less money, though. The films believable & a certified thriller, if you actually enjoy films.

The men are intent on double crossing each other, but once the final girl is all in; she's rock solid. I don't know why this so distasteful to other reviewers, but I enjoyed this. It's not a gimmicky movie.
