- The death of a prominent professor in the deaf community is connected to a feud between two deaf graduate students competing over a grant, and the investigation creates tension between Sara and Grissom's mother.
- Dr. Lambert, director of the Gilbert Institute for the deaf, is killed by a bomb in his sports car, driving home after a benefit attended there by Gil's mother Betty and wife Sarah. The team soon suspects it's about a $500,000 grant to be awarded by a jury chaired by Betty's protégé, professor Julia Holden, who becomes the fatal victim of an indoor bomb. Grant candidates included Julia's frustrated assistant, Michael Bowman, who was excluded, and her new British lover, Sean Wyatt.—KGF Vissers
- Sara Sidle goes to a party of a college for deaf students where a half-million-dollar-grant will be given to one out of three candidates, and while talking to Grissom by phone, she glances at a woman having sex in a room. She meets Grissom's deaf mother and her friend, the deaf professor Julia Holden, who is the woman Sara saw earlier. When Sara leaves the event, she hears an explosion and sees a car on fire and Julia trying to rescue the driver, who is the also Professor Eric Lambert. Nick and Langston arrive to investigate the scene and Sara interviews Julia. In the laboratory, they realize that the car was exploded by someone. Their prime suspect is Julia, who lied to Sara in her previous statement. But soon, two other deaf students that are competing the grant become suspects.—Claudio Carvalho, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
