- Grayson puts everyone off balance by giving Jules her bouquet on the day before Valentine's, which he considers tacky. Travis has to 'make up' by posing for a sexy photo for Kirsten, which proves a crucible of embarrassment. Jules cruelly presses Grayson to 'open up' and show emotions, preferably in tears, regardless which wounds she must rip open to this end. Ellie's bitching extends to vandalizing 'late' Christmas decoration and rudely declining a dinner, so Andy takes much gratefuller Bobby, who also obliges Laurie in a restaurant dumpee-scam.—KGF Vissers
- It's Valentine's Day and Jules wants nothing more than for Grayson to open up to her about his feelings. Meanwhile, when Ellie is adamant about not wanting to do anything for Valentine's Day, Andy makes a date with Bobby, and Travis looks to Laurie for help in creating his "sexy" gift for Kirsten.—ABC Publicity
- (SEE YOU SOON) COUGAR TOWN
(and there were some Twitter addresses...get them on your own)
Valentine's Day is coming, and Grayson (Josh Hopkins) gives Jules (Courteney Cox) the perfunctory dozen long-stemmed red roses a day early. He even brought a dozen for Kirsten (Collette Wolfe), just in case Travis (Dan Byrd) didn't. (Travis also called him boytoy, so a little payback.) Ellie (Christa Miller) is ticked that someone decided long ago women had to put out just because a guy buys them an $8 teddy bear. But they try to make do, and they even start a 'circle of love,' From Jules to Travis to Ellie to Andy to Bobby to Laurie to Tom, who makes sticky buns for everybody. (and he still can't get in the group) Ellie hates this holiday, as does Grayson, whose father died two years ago. Jules wants him to talk to her if he wants to open up, but he refuses. This leads to a 'circle of anger,' from Jules to Laurie to Travis to Bobby to Andy to Ellie to Tom losing his Christmas decorations. And kiss the sticky buns goodbye.
Andy (Ian Gomez) is trying to get Ellie to open up on Valentine's Day, and Jules decides to take it upon herself to get Grayson to open up and even cry about his father's death. ("It's my double-rainbow.") Andy suggests waiting until Grayson feels safe enough to open up to her, but she can't wait that long. Meanwhile, Travis tracks down Laurie (Busy Philipps) for advice on getting a sexy picture of himself (don't picture it...trust me, don't do that to yourself) for Kirsten. He's nervous, but Laurie had pictures done by a professional before. Tastefully done: the picture she sent to a soldier in Iraq covered her bikini area with a stuffed eagle. Very patriotic. Travis relaxes until Barb comes by with her Valentine's Day gift. Which REALLY could have used that stuffed eagle.
Jules tries to go full force on Grayson by flipping through photo albums of his father and followed it up by making him watch his parents' anniversary party. Grayson didn't crack, and Jules was livid.
GRAYSON: So, I'm trying to make this the perfect Valentine's Day for you, and all you want is for me to break down about my dad dying.
JULES: Don't twist this around to make it sound like I'm the weird one!
The non-weird crowd (Andy, Bobby, Grayson, Laurie, and Travis) gather in the music room to complain about what's going on. Travis is afraid to look like a hairless cat in his picture, Grayson had to get away from looney Jules, and Laurie was taking a birth control pill that gave her her period only once a year. (Guess when?) Finally, they figure it out: just give the women what they want. Bobby (Brian Van Holt) is going to take Laurie out for dinner and pretend to dump her so she gets a free meal ("the ol' bitch-and-ditch"), Andy is going to completely ignore the holiday for Ellie, and Grayson is going to cry his eyes out in front of Jules. And Laurie tries to give Travis advice on how to take a sexy picture. However, that doesn't work, nor does Grayson trying to open up in front of Jules, mainly because she's giving it the full Monica treatment. And Ellie is surprisingly jealous that Andy is taking Bobby out on Valentine's Day, despite almost encouraging him to do so.
Now if you think things can't get weirder, you don't watch this show very much. Jules invites Tom over for a glass of wine because she could rely on him to open up to her. But one dream about making love to her later, she turns the crazy on Travis, who is still trying to take a shirtless picture, only Bobby is taking the picture and Laurie is in the room...blindfolded. Ellie tracks down Andy and Bobby (busy night for Bobby) and yells at Andy for not staying home with her despite insisting he can't do anything with her on Valentine's Day.
Jules tracks down Grayson at his bar. She apologizes for getting in his face about crying, but Grayson just wanted a nice romantic evening, like the couples in the bar were having (bad time to point to Barb). Jules is still a bit upset, but Grayson wants to know what she wants from him, since he can't be an emotional person.
JULES: I want you to be a little different with me than you are with everyone else.
Andy came home and finally figured out what Ellie wanted, since she expects him to know it even if she tells him all sorts of crazy stuff. He takes her outside to a bottle of champagne and a display of all the Christmas (and Hanukkah) decorations he stole that were still up in the neighborhood and promises to burn them for her. Travis gives Kirsten the picture, except her idea of "sexy picture" didn't involve Travis taking his clothes off. (and when you see the picture, you can understand why) But he tells her about all of the grief he went through to get the picture, and she is touched.
Grayson comes out to the depressed Jules to tell her he is different with her. He talked to her about his father, whereas he refused to talk about him with anybody else. He also brought her a copy of , since he always cries when plays catch with his dead father. He promised to let Jules watch him watch it.
