- Jackie is on edge after realizing the stash of pills she stole from Bill the epileptic drug dealer is quickly dwindling. With a head of steam, Jackie confronts Eddie about his recent text exchanges with Kevin's younger sister, Tunie. Eddie maintains that it's completely innocent, while making the point that Jackie has no leg to stand on. Coop remains determined to battle O'Hara for the ER Chief title, but suffers a huge emotional blow when his mothers announce they're divorcing. Lou, the down-on-his-luck salesman, returns to the ER much worse for the wear. Akalitus enlists Jackie and Thor to help her ferry the Virgin Mary statue to Eddie's storage room, where it will be safe from repossession during the Catholic Church's impending de-consecration. Later, Jackie and O'Hara spar over whether to confront a belligerent mother who's making false claims about her daughter's need for treatment in order to stay on public assistance. At the end of a long, grueling day Jackie hits a new low when she makes her first illicit drug transaction with Bill.—Showtime Publicity
- In the morning, Zoey tells Jackie that Candace and Natasha are back. She knows them as the patients who sat in the lobby all day and littered.
Jackie visits Eddie in the pharmacy and asks why he's texting Tunie. She tries to play it cool and tells him Tunie was up half the night hacking her ex-boyfriend's email. Eddie tells her she sounds "sharp."
Jackie gets on the elevator, ignoring Thor when he tells her he has really exciting news.
A man is brought in with a gunshot wound to the head. They call for Jackie but she's upstairs in an empty room. She climbs on a table, lifts a ceiling panel and feels around for her stash. She finds the bag of a dozen or so but sees a few of the pills are damaged. There's a hole in the bag. "Oh you f----- rats," she says.
She pours out the pills on a calendar, five for each day. She has just 10 days left. Downstairs, the gunshot victim dies.
Cooper takes it an opportunity to reveal to O'Hara that he's essentially keeping score of things like patient deaths in the "Chief race."
When he's gone, Jackie comes in and sees that O'Hara is actually upset at losing a patient. Jackie tells her to go get coffee.
At the intake window, Candace, the pushy mother from last episode is complaining that her daughter can't breathe -- as she roller skates around the lobby.
Zoey tells her they can't treat her until she fills out the paperwork. She rips on both Sam and Zoey. Jackie comes out and reiterates.
When Candace walks away, Jackie explains to Sam that the more hospital visits they make, the more assistance they get, so all they can do is move them along.
At the filing cabinet, Mrs. Akalitus asks Jackie if she's ever stolen anything.
"Yes, many times," Jackie says. Mrs. Akalitus tells her to meet her in the chapel and bring Thor.
We briefly see a rat in the overhead chewing on one of Jackie's pills.
O'Hara treats Lou, who is having his wrist bandaged. He's wearing the glasses that Jackie taped back together for him. O'Hara tells Jackie he got lightheaded and fell and broke his wrist and chipped a tooth. Jackie asks what happened to his meds. O'Hara steps out as he explains that he lost his insurance and COBRA ran out and he's worried about his kids thinking he's a loser. O'Hara returns with a bag full of a year's worth of pills.
Lou doesn't know what to say. "Say nothing, I just broke the law," O'Hara says.
Outside, O'Hara tells Jackie she just took a page out of Jackie's playbook.
Jackie gets Thor to go to the chapel. He's smarting over her brush off. "You talked to me like I was Zoey," he sniffs.
In the chapel, Mrs. Akalitus shows up with a dolly. She tells them the diocese is taking her statues to Staten Island. Her favorite is a Virgin Mary, who she can relate to. She's tall and looks like she has a lot on her mind. She tells them they're stealing Mary.
At lunch with his moms (Judith Light and Swoozie Kurtz), Cooper snaps pictures like crazy and acts like he's got the Chief job all sown up. Finally, one of his moms (Light) can't take it anymore and wants to tell him the news. They announce they're getting a divorce. He chokes back tears.
Eddie talks to Tunie on the phone and is interrupted by the statue thieves. They stow "Mary" in Eddie's back room. Mrs. Akalitus is surprised to see there's a cot back there.
When everyone leaves, Eddie tries to explain to Jackie that Tunie called him. She reminds him about getting sucked in.
Back at the Central Park boathouse Mom (Light) thinks Cooper reacted better than expected. He's sitting in a boat on the lake by himself, sulking.
His moms shout from the shore. "Your mother and I love each other very much, we just can't bear to be in the same room together anymore," says Mom (Kurtz).
Cooper asks (Judith Light) if she's leaving his mom for Dina. She protests that Dina's just a business partner and is straight. (Kurtz) Mom isn't buying it.
Jackie sees Lou back in the lobby. He tells her he's worried he's going to do something stupid. She takes him in back.
Cut to a rat finishing off another of Jackie's pills.
Jackie takes Lou to another waiting room. She asks the intake nurse how long it'll take to get him a psych eval and a bed. The nurse says there's nothing 'til next week.
Jackie tries to talk to her nurse-to-nurse, asking what the psych equivalent of chest pains is. The nurse is unmoved. Jackie offers her one of her vacation days. When that doesn't work, she offers to personally give every member of her family their flu shot.
"Please help me, this guy's about to stick his head in an oven," Jackie says. The nurse relents.
She gives Lou a form to fill out. Jackie takes his glasses to fix them.
O'Hara treats Natasha, who is definitely not having an asthma attack. Her mom tries to insist her daughter is sick. O'Hara goes along with it, checking the girl in anyway she can think. Jackie sees and tries to talk to O'Hara in the hall, but O'Hara insists she knows when she's being swindled.
O'Hara goes back in. She sees that they've been to lots of hospitals. She tells Candace she appreciates her patience. O'Hara tells Natasha she should be a doctor. Jackie sees what she's doing and encourages her to be a nurse.
Zoey sits down to a salad wrap. She's about to take a big bite when the rat falls out of the ceiling and lands next to her. She gets up screaming.
Jackie uses the tortilla from Zoey's wrap to take the rat to the bathroom. She flushes it, telling it it messed with her stash.
Cooper comes back from lunch and tells Jackie if she ever wants to ruin her kids' lives she should get a divorce.
She asks if he's OK and lets him hug her. He sobs like a baby.
At a coffee shop, Jackie calls her kids to check in. The man she's waiting for arrives. It's the drug dealer she stole from. He says it's a lovely surprise, but he's not surprised. She has $200.
He takes out a 30 day clean and sober chip. It was for a client, but she's dead. He passes the case over to Jackie. There are pills inside.
Jackie goes to an optometrist's and picks up Lou's fixed glasses.
Back at the hospital, she throws the 30 day sobriety chip away and pockets the pills.
