Belarus holds a strategic position between Russia and Western Europe that should give it good bargaining position. But following the dissolution of the Soviet Union Belarus was so dependent on Russia, a situation that continues to today (2019), that it had no choice but to ally with Russia. Now under Putin Russia has been pressing to annex Belarus which is causing tension between these allies.

Sweden's geography has enabled it to enjoy over 200 years of peace. But a more aggressive Russia has caught Sweden's attention. While there are still buffer regions between Sweden and Russia, one aggressive Russian move could change that. And Sweden poses a strategic obstacle to Russia's navigation from the Baltic Sea. So Sweden is rapidly building it's military and tilting more toward it's neighbors and NATO.

When the Soviet threat evaporated with the dissolution of the Soviet Union, Turkey pursued a policy of amity toward it's neighbors while distancing itself from America. Then, under President Erdogon it began expanding its independent geopolitical influence by building its economic, technological and military base. While making progress in these areas it is currently (2021) struggling financially.
