Predictable narrative, badly told

Warning: Spoilers
I saw this on Amazon Prime under the title A SERIAL KILLER'S REVENGE. It's your usual psychological thriller about a reporter who decides to interview a serial killer with a dark connection to his past. The problem with this one is that it was shot on an indie budget which means that it's pretty hopeless in terms of execution. The script is in desperate need of polishing and merely consists of two talking heads in a variety of locations. There's little in the way of insight at any point. SILENCE OF THE LAMBS this isn't!

Some good plot ideas - even if the ending was guessable

It winds me up when people mark down or are overly critical of film projects obviously done with limited resources... you can't use the same yardstick as those films with vast corporate Hollywood or Guy Richie Inc backing. What should shine through whatever the circumstances is the plot and script, in fact having a reduced budget can make a clever director and cast work harder to get their ideas over in a more effective or unique way.

I initially didn't hold much hope for Point of Regret but soon got pulled into it. I initially watched it mostly for the fact it was filmed in Worcester where i grew up... it was the first film to be given filming permission in the city's cathedral. Although I'd pretty much guessed the ending by the half way point - this didn't detract from the main thrust of the story being told. I actually grew to enjoy the cast's performances on the whole and thought there were several good plot turns and effective story-telling elements.

The scenes with William filming himself as an academic "Doctor" doing suicide research was a bit strange - didn't fit in some ways - but i guess it drove the concept 'point of regret' home for the viewer. On that note - suicide by gas oven has not been possible since Britain made gas from coal which stopped just after WW2. It's impossible to die from sticking your head into a gas oven these days I'm afraid. Still - that's a minor point. -

Magnificent!

This movie had me want to jump in and shake both of the main male actors. The way the story unfolds almost drove me nuts. Just when you think you know what's next is throws you a curveball. Some won't like it but to those of us who can see the magnificence of a diamond even if it's still in the rough, will totally enjoy it.

FROM BEGINNING TO END

Warning: Spoilers
At age 12, William (Aj Nicol) was convicted of killing his parents and his three year old brother. He escaped the death penalty because of his age. He has offered his story to a "lazy" reporter in exchange for experimental suicide pills from his wife's pharmacy. Ryan (Christopher Hatherall) wants the story, but has to work for it. It stresses his relationship with his wife (Siobhan Bermingham) who believes he is having an affair.

William speaks in cryptic messages as Ryan attempts to piece together the events and most of all, find the location of the three year old, whose body was never found. William has his own issues and frequent prostitutes for arousal, but then he goes and works out in the bathroom.

This is not a horror movie as the back of the DVD suggests. It is a drama about a crime. Nor does it have "Occult images" and I wouldn't call what I saw "graphic violence" either.

The film does contain discussions about suicide. This is a drama that has a slow developing twist that makes it seem like a gentle curve. You see it in the distant and it becomes more apparent as the film goes on. We get to feel what Ryan fells in the film. Kudos Simon Tate.

Guide: F-bomb, sex? Brief hairy male butt nudity.
