Firstly, a belated merry, and restriction free, Christmas to all IMDb users, even ones that don't like me.
Tommy Cooper's 1969 series 'It's Tommy Cooper' was an amusing short series broadcast by LWT which yet again showcased Cooper's talents for visual and physical comedy. Appearing regularly as a comedy foil for him was the gorgeous Clovissa Newcombe.
The corny jokes were here as usual, my favourite being the one in which he put two pipes inside a paper bag and told the audience: ''here we have bagpipes!''. There was as usual the magic tricks gone wrong, though truth to tell, there seemed to be less emphasis on the botched magic here than one would be accustomed to and more an emphasis on sketches. In one, Tommy played a husband who approaches a police constable for help because his wife is threatening to commit suicide by throwing herself out of the bedroom window.
CONSTABLE: Your wife is going to throw herself out of the bedroom window?
COOPER: Yes, and I can't open the window!
'It's Tommy Cooper' was also a handy way of introducing guest stars which included Ronnie Barker, Arthur Lowe, Vincent Price, Patrick Cargill. Bernard Cribbins, Michael Bentine and Richard Briers, all of whom here happy to come along and join in the fun.
'It's Tommy Cooper' is fondly remembered and recently enjoyed a second lease on life when it was repeated on ITV-4.
