Adventures In Christmassing (2021) -

I was really looking forward to a Christmas film with a difference and the sound of this one made me think that I had found it, however, even out in the wilderness they still managed to use the same typical romance seen in every other made for TV Christmas film, but this time with the incredibly annoying and really fake addition of trying to make it like an episode of Bear Grylls. And it was SOOO fake, even more than the time (The one time I actually watched Bear Grylls) that Gareth Southgate was taken to Dartmoor and made to climb the "Dangerous" hills and tor's there. The same ones I've walked up in flip flops with my Nan. That was exactly how this felt. The "Danger" was all too pathetic.

It was crazy obvious that they were nowhere far from civilisation and the "Abandoned" and "Ancient" hut was far from either abandoned or ancient. There were some very farcical bits and some really idiotic moments. Christ, even I know more about surviving in the wild than this lot, but at least it was slightly different, even if, due to its location and the general nature of the film, that meant less Christmas content.

They tried to make what was essentially a comedy in to a drama or vice versa and the balance just didn't work.

They also didn't even try to be thoughtful about it with a lot of inaccurate bits too. Footage recorded for the show when there wasn't a camera available to record it. It's the little touches like that I find really annoying.

Finn Holt (Adrian Holmes) was quite handsome though, but I couldn't see him falling for Parker Baldwin (Kim Fields), except perhaps as a Mother figure and I'm not sure that I saw their relationship lasting, they were just too different. He was also a bit of a knob.

It wasn't so hideous to watch and I could see that it might appeal to those who like the survival programmes as well as Christmas films, but I would say that's probably a very niche market.

4.25/10.

Not Too Cheesy Enjoyable Christmas Movie
ruminative14 December 2023
I actually enjoyed this one. The cast was a great group of very talented people and I loved the chemistry between the leads. Kim Fields is a legend so I definitely enjoyed watching her. My expectations for most Christmas movies are low because they can be super cheesy. They all follow the same kind of format and somehow the leads always fall in love within a couple of days. I do like that this movie was different in its storyline and some the dynamics of it. I hate when there is a stupid misunderstanding and the leads have a falling out so that they can have a dramatic ending. This one was just a sweet love story. It was believable. Lol Bottom line is that I'd watch it again. Way better than some of them I've watched.
