A Ukrainian influencer was pulled off the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival, after she covered herself in fake blood on the steps up to the Palais, staging a protest in support of Ukraine.
This year, the city of Cannes banned protests along the Croisette and its surroundings during the festival.
Ilona Chernobai — a Ukrainian fitness trainer with one million followers on Instagram — walked the red carpet at Cannes in a blue and yellow dress, symbolizing the Ukraine flag. As she got to the stairs, she pulled bags of fake blood from underneath her dress and poured them over herself. Security immediately grabbed her and escorted her off the carpet.
On her Instagram, Chernobai posted about her act of protest, writing, “The action was in support of the occupied territories and our people who live there.”

Over 600 people have competed on Survivor since the first season aired in 2000. Some have been more memorable than others, and there’s no doubt that one of the CBS reality show’s first stars was Colby Donaldson. But even though Colby helped Survivor reel in plenty of viewers with his good looks and Southern charm, the contestant also cost the show $100,000.

Survivor fans first met Colby Donaldson as a contestant on Survivor: The Australian Outback, the show’s second season. It premiered on Jan. 28, 2001, following the Super Bowl, and fans were immediately drawn to Colby. He was his tribe’s leader and a good ole Southern boy (even his luxury item was the Texas flag).

If you’re not a fan of Top Shot, it’s not a shocking surprise to many. It’s not exactly the Real Housewives, but it has its audience, and it’s a big one. The show follows contestants who find shooting a hobby they enjoy, and it measures their skill and abilities with a gun. Alex Charvat is one of the many contestants on the show, and he might even be among the most interesting. He’s a structural engineer from Colorado, and he’s been on two seasons of the hit show. We thought fans might want to get to know a bit more

Now that we know summer’s darling UnREAL is coming back for a second season, we’ve gotten our thrill of imagining what other reality shows UnREAL could satirize: Real Housewives of New York? Top Shot? The show itself has floated out the possibility of a spinoff show like Royal Renovations, but the showrunners Marti Noxon and Sarah Gertrude Shapiro have also considered doing a Bachelorette version. “Part of me just wants to flip the formula and have a female suitor with a bunch of guys,” Noxon told us on the red carpet at the PaleyLive finale event in Beverly Hills Thursday night. “Sarah’s told me, having worked on The Bachelor and The Bachelorette, that the dynamic is totally different. It’s very hard to get drama out of the bros. They tend to default a lot more; it’s much harder to coach the bear. Part of me...

Top Shot is back on History, and this time around we’re in for the somewhat obligatory All-Star season. As reality fans know, you can hardly go through a few seasons of any competition without bringing back the contestants that hooked audiences, whether they did so in a good or bad way. Top Shot isn’t likely to buck the trend, and the cast list seems to bear that out. Fan favorites like Kelly Bachand, all the way from season one, are here, as are the competitors who were chasing Most Hated Reality Star honors… I’ll let you decide who that might be.
Though a huge fan of the show, I wonder about the extent to which those in charge have paid attention to what seems to be the overall reaction to the latest season. Whether you’re keeping up with the general reactions on Twitter and similar social media outlets,...

Syfy has announced the dates for its upcoming season/series premieres and finales, and it holds a lot of promise as well as at least one laugh. Season finales have been set for Being Human – But Where’S The Next Season Renewal, Syfy? Premiere dates, as we’ve already told you, for the Mmo game-linked Defiance and for fan favorite Warehouse 13 are now confirmed, as well as the return of Ghost Hunters.
New unscripted series announced include a paranormal show with a southern accent, Deep South Paranormal, and a William Shatner-hosted – Yes, William Shatner – examination of stories of the bizarre and unexplained entitled Weird or What? Yes, a nice title, but once again the Syfy Original Movie has offered up the best chuckleworthy title of the season: Stonados.

Half Life 2 has received a virtual reality mod complete with head and gun tracking all of which is expected to support the highly anticipated Oculus Rift headset.
Creator, Nathan Andrews combined the hardware of the Sony Hmz-T1 3D headset, a Hillcrest sensor for head movement, and a sensor strapped to a wireless Top Shot Elite gun controller to recreate a fully immersive Half Life 2.
Stating that these components enabled the same experience the Oculus Rift headset promises to deliver, Andrews also noted that he, nor his wife, suffered from any nausea - a side effect many have suffered during initial use of the Oculus Rift.
The mod will be available for Half Life 2, Episodes 1 and 2 and also the 'Lost Coast' expansion level, with Andrews confident the mod will work on "almost all software" due to the Hillcrest's wide compatibility.

It’s true; no matter what certain networks may claim about their “winter finales,” winter doesn’t actually start until December 21, and isn’t over until March 20. Syfy, at least, understands this, and has announced their appropriately-titled winter schedule accordingly.
Happily this means that, starting on Monday, January 14, 2013, we will have some great television to get us through the cold months, including the return of Being Human and Lost Girl, and the premiere of Continuum, and later in the week, the return of Ghost Hunters and Face Off.
Here’s the schedule of premieres, along with series synopses:

Pier Paolo Pasolini’S Trilogy Of Life (Criterion) Pier Paolo Pasolini was Italy’s last Neo-Realist, a product of post-ww II Europe who was fervently Catholic, openly gay, defiantly Marxist, and one of the most original voices of the 20th century’s second half. Before his brutal murder in 1975 (after the premiere of his still-controversial swan song, “Salo”), Pasolini directed a trilogy of films based on masterpieces of medieval literature: Boccaccio’s “The Decameron,” Chaucer’s “The Canterbury Tales,” and “The Thousand and One Nights (also known as “The Arabian Nights”). The three films celebrate the uninhibited, earthy, raw carnal nature of the original texts, leaving little to the imagination, but also offering Pasolini’s own very unique and pointed views on modern society, consumerism, religious and sexual mores (and hypocrisies), and an unexpurgated celebration of the human body, both male and female. Though not a fan of reality television in general as it typically looks for the worst qualities in people to attract audiences in a manner similar to a freak show, I do find myself attracted to a reality show now or then if they focus on something meaningful. One of the more intriguing reality shows out there is History Channel’s Top Shot, a show which lets accomplished marksmen compete to find out who among them is the best of the best. After a promising freshman season, the show dipped in quality considerably after it lost focus in the second season and attempted to play up the melodrama in place of concentrating on the competition and the weaponry. The fourth season brings Top Shot back to where it needs to be, while still having a few awkward human moments.

Lions, and tigers, and bears! Oh, my!
This Fall, Activision is releasing two new hunting games: Cabela’s Dangerous Hunts 2013 and Cabela’s Hunting Expeditions.
Both titles are set to launch on the same day, Oct. 23. It’s an odd choice since the release date ostensibly pits the two Cabela’s games in competition with one another.
Cabela’s Hunting Expeditions focuses on recreating the feeling of a safari. Gamers hunt across North America and Africa, collecting trophies. Hunting Expeditions gives hunters access to a wealth of diverse animals. Instead of just hunting bucks and birds, players will also be able to hunt lions and elephants as well as rhinos.
The game rewards players with Gunsmith points, which allow you to upgrade your weapons. For players who are familiar with rifles, this will offer an added opportunity to customize your weapons to get the best kills.

Survivor is a festival of hotness and exhaustion, much like many of my favorite Herb Ritts music videos. That means it's also inherently gay, and that means we have a job to do before the premiere of Survivor: Philippines this Wednesday: rank the nine finest hotties in the show's history. I tried to assemble a varied platter here of winners and also-rans, so forgive me if I slighted your fave. I'm sure it wasn't personal.
9. Yul Kwon from Cook Islands
Oh yes. Love this man, love that he won during a particularly racially charged season of Survivor, and I especially love his honest smile and threatening bod. He's so charismatic, he was given a PBS show called America Revealed. If this means a spinoff called Yul Kwon Revealed is forthcoming, I'm in full support.
8. Jud/"Fabio" from Nicaragua
A word about Nicaragua: I went off the rails and started rooting for NaOnka that season.

To the office of Secretary of Defense Leon E. Panetta,
Greetings sir. First off allow me to thank you for your service to this country and the decisions you make on a daily basis to keep us safe and protect our shores. The job is trying and the stakes are high, and in these times, I imagine you are an incredibly busy man. Still, busy as you are, I feel as a concerned citizen, as a Patriot, I must bring my grievances to your attention. It hurts my heart to say this, but I believe you dropped the ball in not getting behind The Avengers.
S.H.I.E.L.D does not accurately portray the military? They saved the city of New York from destruction, banded together against all odds, and stayed true to what was in their best interests. Advanced weaponry, advanced protocol for emergency situations, bad ass...

In its first season, History’s Top Shot set out to find the best marksman with a wide variety of weapons and it did so without succumbing to the melodrama that has become typical of reality television. The gun community took note of the show’s premise as well as its many loopholes, and so in its second season the contestant pool turned the competition into a petty match that eschewed the objective of finding the best in exchange for letting a military brotherhood have their way, even if they have to send home the best players to do so. To fix that, Top Shot has enacted a few rules that refocus the point of the show, but unfortunately an immature ex-Navy Seal drags the first 10 episodes down with childish melodrama. On the bright side, by the time the show gets to its final four, all of the competitors are...

The History Channel has branched out quite substantially in the last few years, and while some reality shows attempt a loose connection to history like Top Shot, shows like Billy the Exterminator just feel entirely out of place. The premise sounds like something you’d expect to find on Discovery or Animal Planet, as it follows a family-run pest control business as they travel around the south from their base in Louisiana. In the fourth season, Billy and Ricky add gator wrangling to their repertoire of skills, but mostly the show just adheres to the same formula that’s carried it thus far and sees them handling all kinds of wild animals and insects.

Sadly, my preconceptions of any Men In Black game are haunted by the memories of playing the horrendous PS1 tie-in to Barry Sonnenfeld’s 1997 original. The very first level has you walking around an apartment and defusing bombs, while an impossible to control Will Smith impersonator delivered John McLane style quips – I never made it past this first bit.
I’ll give Activision the benefit of the doubt that their tie-in to the upcoming Men In Black 3 will be less of a soul sucking affair.
Released May 25th for Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii, Men In Black: Alien Crisis will have players taking control of Peter Delacoeur – a trainee Mib Agent who is assigned to help uncover a sinister Alien plot to destroy Earth.
Described by Activision as a “High Octane Action-Oriented Experience” the shooter will also be compatible with the Top Shot Elite Peripheral, as well as Playstation Move and the Wii Zapper.

Microsoft's motion camera captures infrared motion oscillations and the result is this wonderfully impressionistic video.
The video in question is New Look's "Nap on the Bow" directed by duo Tim & Joe working with effects studio Munky. It's one of the many uses that enterprising artists and tech heads alike have been finding for Kinect since its release (mine bugs out when I don't wave fast enough to activate it).
The directors explained their process for creating the video:
The way the Kinect captures in 3D meant we could add camera moves and changes in focus afterwards. We were also able to manipulate their footage, making it dissolve and dissipate particles. One other interesting thing we discovered, a product of the fact the camera only collects the 3D data from the angle it sees, this effectively means you get half a 3D image. When you rotate the image 90 degrees past the...

There's a strain of game that I think I'll never quite "get," and it's the ones where players are allowed to see themselves in the game. I'm always curious about the appeal and whether there's a prolonged sense of pleasure at seeing oneself on the TV. Personally, I'd rather not—I have a healthy shame of my body and its occasionally lurching, often awkward movements.
If you're not a great, big awkward weirdie like me, then you might be the audience for Utv Ignition's Kung-Fu: High Impact.
The Basics
Kung-Fu: High Impact smashes together a couple of elements to stand out above the rest of the current crop of motion capture titles: it's a comic book-themed side-scrolling brawler which involves real-time scanning of the player's body to show them kicking and punching the waves of enemies the game throws at you. All of this takes place within the context of...

Republicans don’t watch MTV’s Jersey Shore. But they dig ABC’s Castle.
Democrats don’t like Discovery’s Deadliest Catch. But they swoon for NBC’s Parks and Recreation.
Those are a few of the findings from an annual research survey by Experian-Simmons that measures the consumer preferences of various political ideologies. In a report prepared exclusively for EW, the company calculated some of the favorite — and least favorite — TV shows of political partisans. (Specifically: the report measures which shows among the survey group were watched by the highest concentration of self-identified “Liberal Democrats” and “Conservative Republicans.”)

Tree Of Life (20th Century Fox) Terrence Malick’s latest effort is both the best film of 2011 and the finest work of his (arguably) mixed, but often masterly canon. A series of vignettes, mostly set in 1950s Texas, capture the memory of a man (Sean Penn) in present-day New York who looks back on his life, and his parents’ (Brad Pitt, Jessica Chastain) troubled marriage, when word of his younger brother’s suicide reaches him. Almost indescribable beyond that, except to say no other film in history so perfectly evokes the magic and mystery of the human memory, which both crystalizes (and sometimes idealizes) the past. Like Stanley Kubrick’s 2001, this is a challenging, polarizing work that you must let wash over you. If you go along for the ride, you’re in for a unique, rewarding cinematic experience. Also available on Blu-ray disc.

Watch Top Shot long enough, and chances are you'll get to see someone fire a really cool weapon. You don't even have to watch that long. It's kind of an inevitability of the show. The people who dreamt it up and the contestants it attracts love weapons. Not only that, they're often scarily good at using them. No one, save for Zeus or a Bond villain with a satellite laser, should be able to smite people from long distances with projectiles. We're only comfortable with Zeus and Bond villains because they're fictional. Unless Zeus isn't, in which case, we're sorry. With its third season going strong, Top Shot's second season is now out on DVD.

What happens when the contestants on a reality show about finding the top marksman stop being polite and start being real? The entire point of the show becomes moot. In its first season, Top Shot had its share of social drama but it still managed to stay on focus and keep its best shooters in the running until the end. The second season couldn’t even do that. In fact, it strays so far that the winner of the competition is verifiably not the best competitor, and many of the show’s best contestants get booted as part of an agenda enacted by four marines in the bunch. Instead of putting safeguards into place to protect against the best of their subjects being kicked off the show and thus nullifying its entire premise, Top Shot milks the Semper Fi drama leaving us with a final four composed of one douchebag,...

Last night's Top Shot featured some Survivor-style drama, another example of the show transcending its basic subject matter (a competition between expert marksmen) and becoming more about human drama, which probably drives marksmen crazy but makes it have much broader appeal. For most of the season, Jake has been playing the "I'm acting crazy to win...

The third season of Top Shot is kicking off tomorrow, and I hope you're going to be tuning in. I have a rundown of the new contestants for you, and a special giveaway of a Top Shot branded iPhone case so you can show off your support of the show.
The contestants look like a good crop this season, even though this is a show that seems to have the opposite problem of most reality competition shows, at least from my perspective. As these series continue with further seasons, it seems to me that the contestants have continually increasing levels of competence, and that doesn't generally work for me. I don't really want to watch the cooking, design, or fashion show that is built around contestants who are already firmly entrenched in the field.

I just came across some news that the popular ghost hunting series Ghost Hunters has been renewed for an eighth season as I sit here watching the shows marathon on the SyFy channel right now. Ghost Hunters in the longest running reality on the SyFy Channel, and has spawned two spin-offs, with over 200 episodes among the three series since it first started in 2004.
I enjoy watching this series, it just fascinates me, and all of the people involved with the show are likable people that are fun to watch. Yeah, I'm a fan of Ghost Hunters, and I'm excited that another season is coming our way. The eighth season of the series will bring fans 20 more episodes, and it's set to premiere in 2012.
