Los Angeles (AP) — Kim Novak says that cruel jabs about how she looked during the Oscar ceremony amounted to bullying that left her crushed at first, but then determined to speak out in protest. "It really did throw me into a tailspin and it hit me hard," Novak, 81, said in a telephone interview Thursday, after she released an open letter condemning remarks by Donald Trump and others about her appearance. In her letter, Novak said: "I will no longer hold myself back from speaking out against bullies. We can't let people get away with affecting our lives." She had initially remained silent after serving as a presenter with Matthew McConaughey at the March 2 Academy Awards because the comments were so painful, Novak said from her home near the Rogue River in Oregon. "For days, I didn't leave the house, and it got to me like it gets kids and teenagers" who are attacked,...

Director: Jourdan McClure. Writer: Ryan Finnerty and Jourdan McClure. Cast: Bill Oberst Jr., Hannah Levien, Whitney Nielsen, Nich Kauffman and Galen Howard. Children of Sorrow is an indie film from Rogue River (2009) creators Ryan Finnerty and Jourdan McClure. The film's story focuses on an isolated cult in the desert. Here, one man brings twelve followers on a journey to hell; few survive the trip. Children of Sorrow also focuses on one villainous character, while more heroic characters are simply forgotten. Light on conflict but full of disturbing and awkward scenes, Children of Sorrow is a harrowing tale set in the depths of madness. The story is centered on one man - Simon Leach (Bill Oberst Jr.). This character calls himself the Father, but this is not one man you would want in your family life. The Father recruits several impressionable twentysomethings. Once interviewed and indoctrinated, the followers are slowly brought...

The After Dark Film Festival is one of this reviewer's favourite annual events. Every year, After Dark Films comes out with an interesting slate of underground horror titles. This year, After Dark has already announced the attachment of the horror films: Asylum, Red Clover, and Dark Circles to their 2013 line-up. Children of Sorrow has also been attached to the film festival as of today. Children of Sorrow, from director Jourdan McClure (Rogue River), involves an isolated cult. Simon Leach (Bill Oberst Jr.) is the leader of the cult and Leach has plans to take advantage of his many followers. Few will escape the confines of his heavily surveilled ranch and few will forget McClure's latest film. Fans of horror can preview the movie poster for the film here. The graphic shows Leach in a Christ like pose, with a brilliant sun in the background. However, Leach is no saviour. Director: Jourdan McClure.

After Dark Films, the company behind the “8 Films To Die For” horror film series (aka After Dark Horrorfest), has revealed that the fourth entry in their second “After Dark Originals” lineup will be the cult thriller Children of Sorrow. Directed by Jourdan McClure (read our interview with McClure about his film Rogue River) and written by Ryan Finnerty (Rogue River, Smosh), Children of Sorrow stars veteran horror actor Bill Oberst Jr. (who shocked the social media world in the interactive thriller Take This Lollipop) as cult leader Simon Leach, whose desert commune seems like the promised land for his troubled followers... who are unaware of his more sinister intentions. “Belongingness can be a terrifying subject, even more so when acceptance is disingenuous,” McClure says. “Children of Sorrow is the nightmare version of that." The first After Dark Originals series launched in 2011, and their current slate features Red Clover (directed by...

If you regularly keep up on horror news, you may be familiar with Andrea Albin from her past work as a journalist for a number of horror publications or her talent management company. Late last year, it was announced that she teamed up with Scott Spiegel for a new feature, titled Die, Maniacs, Die!, and I recently had a chance to learn more about the upcoming movie and a new horror convention she’s working on.
You started writing for a number of horror publications and eventually began representing talent through your own management firm. That’s not the usual path I see journalists take in the industry. Can you tell me how this all came about?
Andrea Albin: It just felt right. I owned the management firm before I started writing, and my husband and I did it together so he could handle my screenwriting business. Anyone who works...

Cheers, my dark and demented kiddies… Looks like we’ve survived another apocalyptic year in no small thanks to a fresh batch of impressively morbid goodies, many of which would have collectively stained your silver screens black and red if theaters could even find the testicular fortitude to show them!
Although most film critics don’t have the balls required to plumb these newfound depths of depravity, those with enough courage will emerge on the other side (albeit after many hot and soapy baths), triumphantly hearkening 2012 as a banner year for the horror genre. While other media publications swamp you with pretentious, so-called “best of 2012″ lists destined to put you into a permanent slumber, your loyal media daemon and macabre sin eater has collected the delectably worst offenders spawned by the film industry’s – very alive and kicking – bastard children.

Sensored was a entertaining outing. Rogue River is less thrilling and more predictable. Even a theme of incest only creates a few unsettling moments. This film, which clocks in at a mere eighty-one minutes, is not really recommended for horrors fans seeking something really frightening. The film follows Mara (Michelle Page) on her journey to bury her father's ashes. She is interrupted by a friendly man, Jon (Bill Moseley). He wants to help her after her car has been stolen. Or, does he want to help himself to Mara when he has her back at an isolated cabin?...

Bill Moseley is a fan favorite in the horror genre, and terrorizes fans in several mainstream and Indie films every year. With a number of horror films due for release in 2012, including The Devil’s Carnival, Rogue River, Exit Humanity and The Tortured, Moseley is in the talking mood. During a conversation between Bhm Editor-in-Chief Don Sumner and Bill Moseley the topic was certain to get to Moseley’s portrayal of the psychotic John Kozlowski in The Tortured, but first… where did this relatively unassuming man come from regarding horror, and how did that elevate to such a vaulted status?...

Synopsis:
While spreading the ashes of her father along the stunning Rogue River, Mara (Michelle Page) bumps into pleasant local Jon (Bill Moseley) who befriends and consoles her over warm conversations about his life. When the two head back to their cars, Mara notices her own has mysteriously vanished and with sundown quickly approaching, she reluctantly takes Jon up on his offer of warm hospitality for the night. She’s soon going to wish she didn’t.
It might be easy to dismiss Rogue River as yet another derivative torture film - “Torture Porn” is just a ridiculous term which I will never use – but I urge you not to because this little twisted nightmare is well worth your time.
Okay, so it does feel that tiny bit familiar and when the craziness is dialled up a few notches, every torture film you’ve ever...

The film opens and ends with a river, but it is more a tranquil river rather than a rogue one. Introspective Mara (Michelle Page, who looks like a Keira Knightley stand-in) spends too long gazing at this Rogue River; and her car is towed. Stuck in the middle of nowhere, Mara relies on the kindness of the stranger who appears at her side. Didn’t her mother warn her about getting into cars with strangers?
Jon (Bill Moseley) takes her home to his wife Lea (Lucinda Jenney)—no wait, she’s his sister!—who is preparing dinner. After some awkward conversation, Mara retires to bed; and everything gets really weird. Jon shows up in her bedroom in his underwear and freaks her out. Then she runs into Lea in a bathrobe in the kitchen. Lea pees on the floor whilst repeating some creepy phrase, yanks the wig off her head...

While grieving at the riverbank, a man named Jon greets her and offers to walk her to her car which has disappeared. Ever wonder what the kids from Home Improvement are up to these days? Well, when it comes to Zachery Ty Bryan, who played the oldest Taylor kid, Brad, the answer might surprise you. He's producing movies, including the shocking horror flick Rogue River, that hits the shelves this week.
So, how did he transition from a teen heartthrob to a behind-the-scenes dealmaker? About four years ago, he and his long-time friend Adam Targum (a writer/ producer on CSI: New York) decided they wanted to approach the entertainment industry from an entirely different angle. They figured that their diverse blend of skill sets would make them a unique team in the production realm, and set about finding scripts to bring to fruition under the banner of Vision Entertainment Group.
Thus far, their journey has been quite successful. In addition to Rogue River (which stars horror legend Bill Moseley and his longtime...

Let's be honest: when you see Bill Moseley in a movie, you automatically assume he will be the bad buy. That's not a bad thing - he so so good at playing bad. In his new movie, Rogue River, directed by Jourdan McClure, Bill plays Jon, a good guy - for about five minutes. Jon lures a young woman named Mara into a false sense of security by introducing her to his lovely wife, Lea, but things quickly start to fall apart as Jon and Lea try to force a new family dynamic in the most brutal way possible. In reality, Bill is jovial, friendly, and the complete opposite of the demented characters he has played over his 30-year career. On the eve of Rogue River's release (it is available on DVD June 5th), we chatted with the...

On the surface, Rogue River sounds like a pretty generic abduction film. A young woman named Mara goes to a secluded, peaceful part of the river to spread her father's ashes. She strikes up a conversation there with a man named John (played by Bill Moseley, so you know he will turn out to be demented), who offers her a ride when she discovers her car has been stolen. Everything in town is closed for the night, so he invites her home to his wife, Lea. Naturally, bad stuff ensues. What sets Rogue River apart from the pack is the beautiful photography, the peaceful setting, the outstanding performances, and subtle, layered themes. We talked with director Jourdan McClure about all this, and more. What was the...

Moseley recently took the time to sit down with Dread Central and tell us all about Rogue River and some of his other intriguing upcoming projects as well.
Moseley remarked that working on Rogue River was especially fulfilling for him because of one of his co-stars. "I knew what I was getting into," Moseley said."It was the first time I'd ever worked with my girlfriend, Lucinda Jenney, who plays Lea. That was a lot of fun.
"I got the job and my manager, Judy Fox, said they haven't yet cast Lea and she asked, 'What about Lucinda?'" Moseley said. "Well, Lucinda has a lot more and better credits than I do,...

We guess the search for a third lead continues. Check out the original press release below for details about the show.

Jourdan McClure's Rogue River may not be the world's most original, genre-bending or exciting film, but for a simple genre film it has all the perks it needs to make for a convincing 80 minutes of horror entertainment. The film popped up out of nowhere and chances are it will go by completely unnoticed for most of you people, but if you find yourself in a spot where you can get a chance to watch it, make sure you don't miss out on this one. Rogue River ties in with other genre films like Mum And Dad where an unsuspecting stranger is held hostage by a seemingly normal family. Of course things aren't as they appear to be and before you know it you're dealing...
