Several Factors Begin to Merge

I really liked this episode. As Bosch continues to focus on the Vietnam soldier who was KIA, he realizes that there are forces that are superseding Vance and his wishes. They are an evil group who are waiting for his death to take over. Bosch is spending a lot of time avoiding being followed. Meanwhile, in his other case, he is crossing paths with the Russian mafia who are aware that someone has invaded their space. They also have a lot of power over Rogers and his enterprises. Maddie begins to go rogue because of a rape case, already defying authority and police policy. And I don't care for her subplot unless it somehow hooks up with her father's cases.

Not much zip

Something is missing from this series and episode, maybe a lot of things. Connolly's writing, so well used in the original series, seems MIA. The situations and characters are dull, flat. There's no tension, no real bad guys, no comic relief. It just feels like a money grab, uninspired and misdirected. I hope it picks up steam.

Uninspiring

A very paint-by-numbers linear plot, albeit with several interesting strands. We learn more, but it is very pedestrian in the weakest episode so far. Everything is a bland grey, OK acting and an OK plot, nothing brilliant, nothing terrible, just grey.
