Domestic violence has become a bigger part of our society today. As it becomes a more severe issue, it also has been more often swept under the rug. Power and Control is an incredible film that shows the journey of a woman who uses every ounce of her courage to keep her children safe. It shows the heart and the environment of battered women's shelters and how they positively impact a situation of abuse. This documentary shows the lack of awareness our country has, but the resources available for anyone in a abusive relationship. The main character's story is an example of how women, men, teens, and children have the right to resources that keep them safe. Her family deserves to have justice and a way out of a domestic violence home. I liked the way the film showed the difficulties of getting out of that situation, yet still showing the amazing benefits it has for the people going through that struggle. As you watch this documentary, the lesson to be learned is to put yourself and your family's safety at the top of the list. Domestic Violence is still very much an issue that has to be dealt with in the United States. Too many families deal with a situation similar to this film and they have a right to a safe home and a protected environment. The film shows the importance of getting out of a dangerous situation and how there are resources available for protection and healing.

Moving, Emotional, Informative

Combines an extremely compelling story about Kim, a brave young mother of three daughters, with an interesting background about the battered women's movement. A realistic documentary that doesn't avoid hard and difficult questions, but it's ultimately hopeful. It serves as a basic introduction to many important ideas about domestic violence, and there is a surprising and thought provoking twist at the end.
