Not what i thought

Well I didn't know Rana Naidu is a remake of Ray Donovan. So when i saw the teaser / trailer of Rana , i thought it would be a tale of a son and father who are pitted against each other where the father is hired to try to stop the son from his job. I expected terrific face offs and fight sequences but it wasn't to be.

Rana Naidu is basically a family crime drama where each character has a story of his own to showcase, from Rana Naidu to Naga the father to the youngest Jaffa, everyone's story is shown in this series. In between their own story lies the major one, the Rana Naga story . It's not what i thought. It's basically Naga trying to bring his family together only to find that there were secrets hidden from him and why exactly Rana hates Naga is the main story.

There's no sparks flying off like clash between Naga and Rana at all. I was dissapointed here. Just a mere collar holding and some threatening dialogues nothing else. Remaining series is only focused on others story and how the Naga Rana relationship moves .

It's a very slow moving series. The first 6 episodes are quite patience testing because there's not much happening at all other than world building. This where intense fight sequences would have helped but theres none other than sex. The last 4 is where the interesting parts start coming in and the series salvages itself a bit.

The series is filled with tons of slangs and sex, kissing scenes of all sorts . Definitely not a family series. One more thing to note, the series has no black and white characters, all have grey shades to their personalities. An aspect i liked.

Venkatesh was really enjoyable as the funny yet dangerous Naga . He seemed to be enjoying the role . Rana Daggu as Rana might not be liked by all considering his one stern expression throughout the series but you gotto understand, that was what his role or character was. Ashish Vidyarthi stood out amongst all. Man he was an absolute hilarious ride especially his journey from Hyderabad to Mumbai part was the best. Sushant Singh and Surveen chawla come together again after Hate Story 2 and they did a pretty good job . Abhishek Banerjee was also terrific as his character of a rape victim is extremely tough to play .

Music is good as well . My favourite being "Meherbaan", gave that retro Bollywood music feel.

Overall, a strictly one time watch series. Doesn't leave you excited even for any more seasons.

Don't hesitate and give it a watch, I'm assuring you you'll not get bored but wanna aware it's filled with ,18+ contents (slangs, reference, nudity) not that much but still too much for Indian show but it's important for the character.

And a great chemistry between Rana & Venkatesh must say and Surveen chawla looked good no doubt apart from that all other supporting characters are also performed well and one more thing it's good to see all the Tv actors, south actor & bollywood actors together in a series and last but not the least I seriously loved the accent of venkatesh.

Thanks !!!!! Happy binging.

Solid cast and acting But............

Pros : From starting to end, Its gripped storyline along with solid cast and acting. All roles are perfect and done justice with their respective screen time. Full marks to Ranna and Venkat for giving badass performance.

Cons : They can deal better with foundation of series where unnecessary put sexuality and minor sexual harassment (which is quite old now). Made benchmark to show higher class in such way which sometimes looks annoying and old fashion.

Netflix trying their best for Indian audiences. Its thrilling series which could be good time pass.

Rest is fine if you are not watching with family.

Rana Daggubati garu and Venky mama are absolutely fantastic as Rana Naidu and Naga Naidu respectively!! Loved seeing them together! Really enjoyed hearing them speaking in Hindi.

Surveen Chawla is smoking hot and stunning as the wife of Rana Naidu! She's really great in her role.

Aditya Menon garu is freaking good, have seen him in many Telugu films and he's a great actor! He should do Hindi films as well.

Never seen Ray Donovan but very well adapted for Indian audiences. The nudity, sex scenes and cuss words are needed as it's what the script wanted

Don't mind all the bad reviews, just watch Rana Naidu and enjoy!

Slow, could have been more

With such talented artists, this could have been so much better.

Also, 'A-rated' doesn't mean 'crass'. Look at Game of Thrones, it had its share but the rest was brilliant too. You feel like taking a bath after watching one of these. Also, this language is used by everyone. Usually, there are categories, like in 'Breaking Bad' - Walter White Jr. Will not use foul language, but Jesse would - because of his upbringing, which makes sense.

But in this, nope - everyone is in the 'A-rated' series, why not use it?

Positives - Venkatesh with his original voice speaking in Hindi Negatives - Slow and dis-oriented.

Great Indian version of RD

I loved Ray Donovan is brilliant TV serial. I have to to admit watching an Indian version I was skeptical, as sometimes the story can change or the acting is not great however I was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed the show. Some old and current actors so was good to see faces I have not seen in a while.

I would rate it 18+ as it's not for the soft heated as it is a little on the dark side with some funny bits. For an Indian series it sure did step out of it's boundaries and touched on a topic that is always overlooked.

Overall great acting and hope the story continues as I know there is more to series to show your audience.

Not worth the hype

The series is targeted towards the male audience. The typical gangster world merged with daddy issues and racy scenes. The emphasis is more on BJs than the story. Manly men are attractive to women, so women may find Rana's character desirable. But except him all other characters are bland, one dimensional. With that I mean, all others have only one trait and they drag the story around it, with BJs, and doggy styles and occassional throw of Cowgirl position for portraying "true love" scenes. As a woman it felt crass and derogatory to have been bombarded with the same scene over and over. Each and every supporting character is obsessed with their peepee. They talk about it, slur about it, dream about it. What a waste of such a talented pool of actors. From north and south they brought in the best acting powerhouses and yet, they created a story about- wait, what was the story? Ah, daddy issues.

Rana has daddy issues. Big deal. Thats the whole story. Rana hates his father and his father doesn't hate him for that. Its not as mind blowing as it was portrayed in the trailer. Rana's dad is a drunk neglectful father and Rana blames him for everything. That is all.

There are child abuse references. There is Rana's youngest bro who has been sexually abused when he was five. But his character and his storyline is more about decorative purposes. The end result of his character is still somehow about Rana. How does it impact him? Nah, not explored. Its only rage which has always been justified as Rana is a level headed boss-man.

The series is a remake of a Hollywood series but lacks the gravity of the storyline it carries. Moreover the cultural differences make it harder for us audience to relate to. For Indian audience to showcase a neglectful father who comes back is seldom as relatable as a junkie mother. And the series has both such characters. And then throw in some crass cuss words without any boundaries, in a Hyderabadi accent. It just doesn't leave a lasting impression.

Overall, I think Rana's character has potential to pull the series. His dad, well, not so much. The other characters are decorative set pieces. The only thing that I actually liked is the relationship he has with his wife (and children). I dream to have that sort of partnership in future. Which is also a living nightmare. For every woman who dreams about a brooding handsome Byronic ganglord, this series is like a reality check because these men are very much lost in their mess. The series chose style over substance. (Rather sex over substance). Having watched better erotic thrillers like She (Netflix) and Taj: Divided by blood (Zee5) recently, this series felt underwhelming.

Over use of profanity

Acting was good...like both the lead actor specially senior rana sir..after such a long time.

It was pleasure watching him. His comic timming acc to the script was perfect.

But I feel it was over use of profanity and vulgarity... Reset I dnt know...my wife didn't finished the series...for her it was bakwaas..she didn't liked it at all.

She was like kehna kya chahte hain...banaya hi kyun hai.. The ain't any such series on OTT with that much profanity.. kids are growing now, they have all the access of OTT on tv sets these days... Dnt use that much profanity.. Hopeing to see much better content.

Horrible story line with Such talented actors

The Story line is really weak. With so many Talented actors one could have made a scintillating series but story writers were HIGH it seems.

Following are the points which I thought made it really weak -

1) Sometimes the story is moving too slow and sometimes too fast.

2) There are so many sub-plots but the director missed to connect them at right moments and make viewers thrilled.

3) Hindu GURUS are always BAD, let it be Sacred Games or this or any other movie or series. Seems like the SAFEST TREND (saving their 'Sir' (Head) from 'Tan' (Body) )

4) Murdering in Public in a crowded city like Mumbai is so easy.

5) Unnecessary abuses makes it more 'attention seeker' for audience.

The pure joy and satisfaction you get at the end is just...

Yeah. I know the series is copied. I know it is not original but you require brains to copy something and adapt it for the Indian audience. The sheer brilliance of this series left me awestruck. I've watched Mirzapur, Sacred Games and even Patal Lok. All of them are top in thier own verticals. This series too deserves a spot.

Now coming to those Intimate scenes which everyone is just hating the series for. It doesn't matter. It really doesn't. If you have seen it comes under a mature genre. And those scenes being included isn't a deal breaker at all. It is not supposed to be watched with your family in the first place.

Anyways!

The acting is way too good. All the actors have done a fabulous job.

Waiting for the next season. Kudos Netflix.

Scattered plot and inconsistent character traits

This could have been better if it wasn't the victim of lazy writing. You can't just copy and paste a series, you have to write and adapt the plot as per local culture and views. The plot is scattered all over the place and they are trying to connect the plotlines literally by a PHONE CALL every single time!! That shows the efforts writers has put to bring forth an already executed successful show. Another turn off for me was how inconsistent the characters were in their mindset and decision making for eg a character is in abstinence since past 10 years or so and his brothers were at first shown to care and maintain that he doesn't touch alcohol again, then he started drinking again and nobody even once tried to get him out, similarly the lead character wasn't so much into asking for favour to get his children admitted in top school but without any trigger he took the favour. Many more examples are there and these little things just set you off and keep you from indulging in the series. The over the top vulgarity is also one huge negative point and could have been avoided easily. Rest i finished it in multiple sittings and I can suggest to avoid it. Better watch the original one.

Shockingly Bad !!!!

It is after a long time, Netflix has got it all wrong by endorsing Rana Naidu. Because this show does not deserve a platform like Netflix. In fact it does not deserve a platform at all.

The Director Duo of Suparn Verma & Karan Anshuman are pretty special. Because they managed to get every good actor on the show to ham away to appalling and embarrassing levels. The Cast per se is not bad, in fact all the actors are quite competent and good but it is the execution which has let all of them down.

Be it outrageous and unwarranted sex scenes, filthy language, silliness of dialogues, action and atrocious acting, it is all highly insufferable. I wish this series never saw the light of day. Best avoided if you want to preserve your sanity !!!!

Solid drama with super twists and turns

18+ Show. Please do not watch with family.

This is a very contextual adaptation of the original and is very well fitted in the Indian context between Mumbai and Hyderabad. Every episode is fast paced and keeps your gripped. The makers were very clear about it being a adult show. Don't understand the noise hating it being adult as if the same audience have not liked other shows with adult content.

Ignore everything and give it a watch. It's very commandable of Venky Sir to step out of his comfort zone and try something like this at this age. You have to encourage experimenting or else we will just be left with formula content and stay bored.

Another "UNDEKHI" family fighting with inner demons...!!!

An adaption of the hit series" RAY DONAVAN" is about a family that seeks peace or eternity after doing a sinful act... Rana as a fixer does a splendid job trying to handle the pressure of high society crimes and compromising with the family seems to be a natural performer and his body language does play an easy act... On another hand venkatesh is a show stealer with his natural Hyderabadi dialect makes u strangle with his methodical acting another milestone in his career despite being criticised for his abusive language his presence makes u more love for the series... Surveen Chawlaa shines as a true mother and caring wife...The rest of the characters did a splendid job... Despite sexual scenes and foul language, this series does an impressive weekend entertainment not to be missed.

Great pyschological thirllwr in recent times

Negativity around Rana Naidu is not true...I just watched began this series casually...it hook me up for 10 hours till the end...beautiful story ...Venky and Rana and all other crew just killed the story with their performances and... story.. screenplay..style of making and visual presentation...dialogues are the best part of this film...thoroughly enjoyed Must watch series for all sections of audience .family bonding...emotional interlink among all of them...crime cinema..industrialists..police..all departments are shown naturally...sex.nudity vulgar language are just terms used in society but it is the true reality of the society..our aspirations.desire struggles ..problems..drugs alcohols..everything in our lives shown in this film with best production values.. nutshell whole team work made this possible.

Who is father, who is son

Anwar Says: A profession of an amoral fixer solving problems of immoral elites was unheard of. A web series called as remake of Ray Donovan , by Karan Anshuman, Inside Age fame , is definitely a dark and pulp fiction with unique story line but you can't watch it with your family due to excessive sex , foul language and violence. Patriarchy is the soul and almost every male character is either father or son, confused to accept or carry the relationship.

Rana Daggubati and Venkatesh Daggubati are the main son and father and the son hates his father but loves his family, without expressing till the last episode. The internal bonding with the brother suffered child abuse and another having Parkinson has been perfectly shown. Both the actors are appropriate choices for the characters but many a sequences are repetitive. Wouldn't sound as dubbed movie particularly because shot in Mumbai background. Ashish Vidyaarthi, Sushanth and Abhishek Banerjee have also made their presence felt. Female characters were shown mostly as objects though Venkatesh claims himself to be a feminist.

Watch this series in isolation as the main characters are obsessed. There are some scenes of morbid humour but the language used by them , you can only find on the platform of Netflix. Poker faced Rana could have taken some wit from his father.

Boys on fire!! Venkymama was amazing!

Nice, series to watch when you are alone or with friends. First of all, we all should appreciate RANA NAIDU## team for coming out of confirm zone and entertain us all. The family drama was amazing dint get bored until 8th episode and after that it was really slow. I personally think character #rana Naidu is not completely revealed there is much more that Rana Naidu should do, I have expected the serious professional suit gun fight which was not there. And I am expected that in part two. And coming to Venky mama was amazing initially his character dint convince me but later on he proved, baap baap hota hai aur beta tho beta hota hai.

Guys don't think that Telugu or south audience don't see such movies. Now a days people and staying in nuclear family's. Now a days every one is getting that freedom or alone time to watch movies alone.

Over all it was nice to see people are trying to come out of their confirm zone and trying to be realistic and showing the real life that's happening around. And people are who are giving negative review dont do that. There are many people who will be getting jobs just based on your reviews!! Remember that.

Bad boys

So what if it is inspired by RAY DONAVAN it is good for viewers who doesn't watch English series and can get same type of content with their known actors and in regional language

All the actors gave high performances and looked stylish as well with attitudes..Abhishek played his character extremely well..rana looked real macho and played a new unique character of solving issues of big rich people..Venkatesh played a naughty witty character amazingly

The series is long in 10 episodes with foul language which I think was a need to content

You have to watch this as big Tollywood star's debut in series.

We don't need indians to create such content that are already being made in the west countiess times .. especially unnecessary sexualisation and forced vulgarities in the name of being diverse ! Completely disappointed that veteran actor venkatesh and rana known for bahubali choose such trash as acceptable to make in India. Even the subtitles are written with vulgarities when the Hindi dialogue didn't have any at places 😂.

I can understand Hindi cinema is facing a difficult phase but I never expected it to stoop this low! It's so fake when you guys try to be white people ! Don't spoil the veterans who have built up Hindi cinema and it's great legacy.

First time in Telugu, mind-blowing!

Rana daggubati acting is awesome and the all characters are do their best, and I liked all the series in the Rana Naidu and it could not been boaring! The brothers of rana in the Rana Naidu series are making their characters well, and the venkatesh daggubati the father of Rana Naidu and the coldwar between the Rana and venkatesh daggubati is making us anxious Naina who being the wife of Rana also she is excellent in the character and the Jaffa, OB Mahajan, sreeni, Tara all are done the best acting in the Rana Naidu series! The A rated movie is would be understang the settlements in the industry is clearly we get an idea about it by watching the Rana Naidu series!

Good but could have been edited better

Overall a nice show to watch.

Good: Story is good, acting is also good by most of the actors. Overall you can give it a try but do not watch with family. Rana and Venkatesh is looking good. Ashish Vidyarthi and Sushant Singh has done a good job. Abhishek Banerjee did something different and nice as well. Acting, story, background score and somewhat screenplay is also good.

Bad: too much of adult scenes, that are another level as per Indian viewers. Too much of abusive language and that too harsh. Could have been better if edited better or cut down by 1-2 episodes. Fee sex scenes could have been dropped because they seems like not so imported for the story.

NAIDU RAAN would be the ideal title.

Great Cast, Poor Screen play, mediocre plot.

Even after 5 episodes, I cannot understand the general direction of the plot. I can't even understand why is the Son so angry against the dad. So writing the review without completely watching "Raan Naidu".

Unnecessary Glorification of casual relationships. Many characters getting into casual sex after their first or second meeting.

Looks like scotch has replaced water in India.

Cast - 8 / 10 . Rana is good. Venkatesh's acting doesn't belong to this genre.

Plot - 1/10 Screenplays - 4/10 (Can't understand utility of many scenes) Setting - 9/10 Social value index - 0/10 (Kids having Daru party, Children talking about sex with prostitutes with parents, rampant unnecessary drinking scenes)

Overall 4/10. This is what happens when you copy and paste a western serial and replace the characters with Indian characters.

Need a season 2!

I loved the show! I went in with really low expectations while cringing hard initially. The character development was well shown and really showed some heart.

The cast did an excellent job in playing their roles. I found Ashish Vidyarthi hilarious towards the end. I would recommend this tv series to anyone 20+ as I could definitely see how this tv show could spark some backlash.

Here's a message to the critics hating on the show because of how explicit it is

If you are open minded enough to categorise this as a TV show and just nothing but pure entertainment then it is definitely worth a watch. Gold will be gold and a diamond will be diamond, and no matter how much you stare at one thing, it will never become the other. Just because you watch a stuntman doing stunts in any tv show or movie doesn't mean you would do it too.

First of all the only reason I would like to watch this bcoz venkatesh. I only dislike this cause of more se*ual scenes and nudes are more than enough. So I would to like to recommend to watch this alone neither than watching with family.

After a long long time Venky mama return the films. Taking to the review it was above average feels. If you want to see you can binge its just less than ten hours of content. What i promise you do not bored any of the action part of rana daggupati he did a well done work for this series. That's what I am suprised of . Not a fan of rana but the way he conveyed himself in this wonder.
