Creator and writer David Weil revealed that the musical introduction in this episode was filmed in the exact same location as The Sound of Music (1965) where Julie Andrews (Maria) taught the von Trapp children about Do-Re-Mi. The production actually went to the Alps in Austria to film the sequence.
The opening scene is a parody of the musical The Sound of Music. Sister Harriet plays the role that Julie Andrews played in the original. She sings with the children in a number inspired by the song "Do Re Mi" which Andrews sings with her children. Julie Andrews and sister Harriet both play nuns who wind up as govornesses for families headed by Austrian widowers.
The coat check number "88" given to Klaus Rhinehart could be significant as it is said members of neo nazi gangs will get this number tattooed on them to signify HH or Heil Hitler.
