A Likeable film ..with temptations to fast forward.

A nice film about the acceptance of orientation and of coming out. I tried to really like it more and was tempted to fast forward. This film is probably most interesting to younger adults, perhaps under 35yrs. The cinematography does have an air of a school project and the actors were good but do appear not very experienced. If you can overlook some of the soliloquize philosophical-like dialogue about one's orientation, the film is quite good. There are a lot of these cliche conversations to tempt one to fast forward. Do not read below, I may have over analyzed it.

The storyline revolves around a young man Graham, 21yr old, and his struggles of acceptance of being gay and of coming out. He has several conversations with one particular friend, Dahlia. The conversations to me sounded just so scripted. There is a beach scene where each of them appear to be delivering a philosophical dissertation on being one's self and acceptance of yourself without mentioning the word gay. The word gay isn't spoken until the film climaxes at the point where he does come out to Dahlia. On reflection I can see that this was most likely intentional by the director given the subject matter of the main character. Even after this scene Graham still does not use the word gay when he breaks up with girl friend. Instead he says, .. I like men the way I'm suppose to like women. Probably the best line of the film. Another quirky small story line is how is it he falls for the Filipino Asian, Connor. He met Connor only twice. Connor get kicked out of the family for his orientation and goes to Graham for solace. Given the story location of Maine, I looked it up to be 94% white and 1% Asian, the chances of these two meeting in a small town seem so unlikely. Is this the attempt of diversity for the film for 2021. In the film Alice his room mate says she is his best friend in a heated conversation yet there is hardly any dialogue between them. One last quirk is why does Graham have no male friends. Is this somewhat a stereotype of a young gay man. The ending is cheesy, perhaps this is a good afterschool special of a film.

Ethan Rhoad proposes a decent portrait of his graham, large ball of doubts, frustrations , memories and impulses, self lies and reasonable solution to them.

Inspired circle of young women helping in a measure or other.

Not so bad final.

It is a static film and it pretends just serious dose of patience or the good empaty for not interrupt to see it.

But, as compensation, he has just seductive details, from paintings to the dragonfly jewel, from the atmosphere of party to realistic portrait of Alice and nice try in the case of Dahlia.

The dialogue is not brilliant and the moral lesson of final seems too pathetic.

The familiar things are just fair support for story.

In fact, it is an atmosphere film. The story, remaining only a sketch, it is difficult to be more than simple pretext. But it has the virtue to remind personal states of soul, old emotions and, in essence, it is its precious good point. A film about courage to define yourself . And, in real sense, begin the life.

Much too static and boring

It seems to me that the message of the film is this : if you're not sure about your sexual identity as a young guy, then don't live surrounded only by very talkative girls who know it all. What the "boy" (21 years old!) needed was as a number of young males around him, then he would've soon discovered if his libido was aroused by the same sex.

All the listening the poor guy had to do was painful to me! Also he and his "teachers" mostly just sat in one place for long periods while the lesson was being conducted. So the variety of location was very limited.

Finally, it had to be accidents that threw him into the company of someone of the same sex! And that someone didn't need to be very attractive (I'm being kind) as a result!

The Struggle to Accept or Not To Accept A Lifestyle

Warning: Spoilers
I just had the pleasure of watching this EXCELLENT award-winning LGBTQ movie whose rating(6.6/10) although appropriate, feel it deserved at least an 8/10. Kudos to the amazing cast, led by Ethan Rhoad("Graham").

Not surprised it was "award winning". The acting, writing & direction were superb. Ethan, the lead actor, carried this movie amazingly. Well. Although as viewers we sort of had an idea what his sexual orientation was early on, it wasn't until close to the end, especially when he had feelings for and slept with "Connor", who was kicked out of his house and accused by his dad of being a disappointment & "no longer my son" that "Graham" admitted to his close female friends that he was gay about which he struggled with all his life. In the end, the happiness he longed for was finally achieved. This movie is a MUST SEE especially for those of us, members of the LGBTQ community, who are gay about which I'm most proud.
