African dance is great - but is that REALLY where Irish dance originated from?? That's what this documentary would have you believe from the first 20-30 minutes, without actually providing any evidence! Besides showing the similarities of moving feet (as all cultures do in dance) and some anecdotal history of Irish and and African servants/slaves interacting in the West Indies. The second half then goes on to *ignore* that convoluted beginning and picks up in the 19th century. What was happening in Ireland all this time? I feel like I now need to read the actual history of Irish dance from another source to learn anything.
