Marija Kavtaradze’s new film is a love story with a truly radical approach to intimacy. She reveals how she made a will they/won’t they tale that strays into little-known territory
They meet cute in a dance rehearsal studio. She’s a contemporary dancer teaching a class of deaf teenagers. He’s the sign language interpreter. When he walks into the room and takes off his shoes, they both look down at his odd socks and smile, something clicks. Like so much of the Lithuanian film Slow, the moment is romantic and feels true to life – as if someone is secretly filming real people with invisible cameras.
The pair start hanging out. Then one day, in her bedroom, just as you think this is it, he suddenly blurts out: “I’m asexual.” She splutters a giggle and asks what he means. “I’m not attracted to anyone sexually.

Racking my brain to think of what exposure I’ve had to the concept of asexuality, I can come up with two examples: the personal life section of Janeane Garofalo’s Wikipedia page, and an interview with a man on a Canadian late-night television show (I think it was SexTV?) explaining it as if an alien. Well, with that limited knowledge, I was hoping Marija Kavtaradze’s Sundance-feted Slow would shine some light on the subject, rendering it into a dramatically compelling topic that I didn’t regard as somewhat of a joke. Yet this ho-hum relationship drama––the Sundance premiere makes a lot of sense; this is essentially the European iteration of the forgettable movies that fill up that fest––which has little in the way of surprise, tension or genuine romantic sweep, disappoints in that regard.

After a brief halt in production, AMC was able to secure “significant agreements” with the SAG-AFTRA actors union that allowed them to continue filming Interview with the Vampire season 2 during the SAG strike last year, keeping the show on track for its 2024 premiere. The Sunday, May 12th premiere date is now swiftly approaching – and even though we just saw a trailer for the show a couple weeks ago, a new trailer for Interview with the Vampire season 2 has now been unveiled. It takes a minute to get what’s really going on in Marija Kavtaradze’s Slow. Once it clicks, the film becomes eerily relatable. The characters feel like friends and acquaintances, and the conversations appear to be the kind we have in real life. I’m obviously speaking from a personal perspective here, but not since Spike Jonze’s Her (2013) have we seen a film on relationships that speaks to its audience on such a personal level. The intentionally done grainy texture and the extreme close-up shots only make the experience more intense. Although the primary focus of the show is the asexuality of its male lead—something that hasn’t been explored much by cinema—the film as a whole is a deconstruction of intimacy and relationships. Understandably, Slow has been quite a critical darling, from winning at the Sundance film festival to being selected as the official Lithuanian entry for the 2024 Academy Awards.

"I'm never going to stop caring." An official US trailer has arrived for an indie romance film from Lithuania titled Slow, made by filmmaker Marija Kavtaradze. This initially premiered at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival last year where it received some rave reviews, before going on to play at many other fests including Sydney, Karlovy Vary, Galway, Helsinki, Zurich, Nashville, Hamburg, London, and AFI Fest last fall. Slow is a unique film about love showing a story of two people, one of them asexual, who prefer to take it slow and let their intimacy build in its own way. Dancer Elena and sign language interpreter Dovydas meet and form a beautiful bond. As they dive into a new relationship, they must also learn to navigate how to build their own kind of intimacy. The film stars Greta Grinevičiūtė as Elena & Kęstutis Cicėnas as Dovydas, with Rimante Valiukaite. "Through dance, tense quietude,...

Ella Purnell (“Yellowjackets”) will star in and executive produce “Sweetpea,” a female driven original drama series from pay TV operator Sky.
The series is adapted from C.J. Skuse’s novel of the same name by writer and executive producer Kirstie Swain (“Pure”), and written by Kirstie Swain (“Run”) and Krissie Ducker (“Killing Eve”), alongside Laura Jayne Tunbridge (“Nights”) and Selina Lim (“Sex Education”). The series will be directed by Ella Jones (“The Baby”), who also serves as executive producer.
Purnell stars as Rhiannon Lewis, who doesn’t make much of an impression – people walk past her in the street without a second glance. She’s continually overlooked for a promotion at work, the guy she likes won’t commit, and her dad is really sick. Then everything in her life turns upside down. Reid Scott, best known for playing Dan Egan in the HBO political comedy series Veep, will be joining Season 23 of Law & Order in a series regular role. As reported by Variety, Scott will be portraying a NYPD detective in the upcoming season, though further details on his character, including a name, are currently being kept under wraps. Scott’s casting comes a week after Jeffrey Donovan, who played Detective Frank Cosgrove, was let go from the NBC drama over alleged “creative reasons.” Donovan starred in two seasons, having joined the show for Season 21 in 2022. While best known for his role in Veep, in which he starred across the show’s seven-season run, Scott has also appeared in the likes of Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Afterparty, American Horror Stories, Black-ish, and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, the latter of which he played Gordon Ford across two seasons. Slow Horses is back with its much-awaited third season, and I am happy to say that it is even better than what came before. The Gary Oldman dark comedy-drama has to be one of the best TV shows in the entire world, but sadly it is still not getting the attention it deserves.
Based on the third novel of the Slough House book series titled Real Tigers by Mick Herron, the new season starts in Istanbul with Alison Dunn (Katherine Waterston), an MI5 agent, and Sean Donovan (Sope Dirisu), head of security. The relationship between these two sets up the events for the upcoming episodes and while we don’t see the Slow Horses in the opening scene, they get caught up in this new mess pretty soon.

Oscar voters in the Best International Feature Film category have received their group assignments for this year’s initial round of voting, with 89 films included on the seven lists that the Academy has sent to members.
The lists, which were obtained by TheWrap, include presumed favorites “The Zone of Interest” (United Kingdom), “The Taste of Things” (France), “The Promised Land” (Denmark) and “Perfect Days” (Japan), along with a number of documentaries, among them Estonia’s “Smoke Sauna Sisterhood,” Brazil’s “Pictures of Ghosts” and Ukraine’s “20 Days in Mariupol.”

The list of group assignments does not make up the Academy’s official list of eligible films; it’s possible that assigned films might still fail to qualify before first-round voting begins on Dec. 18. Song Name – Slow Dancing
Singer – V
Check out Slow Dancing Song Lyrics by BTS V
It’s about time we get it straight
Gimme a minute if it ain’t too late
It sounds about right
This can’t be forced, babe
It shouldn’t feel like this
Hurts too much already
Stay with me ’til the end of the day
Maybe we
Could be
Slow dancing
Until the morning
We could be romancing
The night away
Turnin’ me up and back off like this
What do you want? Do you not like it?
Stop teasin’ me, girl
Now, you made me leave my heart out here
Step on me and I’ll lift you up
Find someone new again
We were so much alike
Now we’re just distant neighbors
Maybe we
Could be
Slow dancing
Until the morning
We could be romancing
The night away...
Singer – V
Check out Slow Dancing Song Lyrics by BTS V
It’s about time we get it straight
Gimme a minute if it ain’t too late
It sounds about right
This can’t be forced, babe
It shouldn’t feel like this
Hurts too much already
Stay with me ’til the end of the day
Maybe we
Could be
Slow dancing
Until the morning
We could be romancing
The night away
Turnin’ me up and back off like this
What do you want? Do you not like it?
Stop teasin’ me, girl
Now, you made me leave my heart out here
Step on me and I’ll lift you up
Find someone new again
We were so much alike
Now we’re just distant neighbors
Maybe we
Could be
Slow dancing
Until the morning
We could be romancing
The night away...

If you're anything like us, the first time you learned exactly who Ciara was, you were listening to her 2004 hit "1, 2 Step" while getting ready for school in the morning. And while many of her fans still adore her music from the early '00s as well as the hits she's churning out today - like "Level Up," "Jump," or "Slow" with Jackson Wang - some may not be aware that she's also a mom of three (with another one on the way).
After marrying Russell Wilson - now the quarterback for the Denver Broncos - on July 6, 2016, Russell became Ciara's first son's stepfather, and the pair went on to have a daughter and son together. On Aug. 8, Ciara announced that she and Wilson are expecting their third child together.
