No scattershot storytelling - pleasure in the details
HpbrnRox4 June 2022
The Umbria fest in the summer is about the much coveted and very expensive truffles which Sylvia comes to appreciate as she tracks down Mimi the missing pig known for her skill at digging up the best woodland truffles in Panicale, providing some comic relief against the more serious murder of Mario Rizzo in Rome laying bare love and betrayal. Woven in-between the two mysteries are clues into the main characters' back stories - nothing half-baked just not fully unveiled, thus leaving more questions about Giovanni Riva before Perugia, Isabel's anger and her version of their father, his knife and what happened to him? What events will Dame Felicity manipulate to lure her top agent back into the MI6 fold? The series' premise (indeed fabulous) is centered on how Sylvia's choices - not only those made in the present but in her past as well - spiral back around...but, for now, we are left with only a mere hint of the more complex mystery yet to be uncovered by Signora Volpe.

Wonderful story, great acting, beautiful scenery. I hope there are a hundred more Signora Volpe episodes. Emilia Fox is amazing and so real. These shows make you pause and think.

Comfy shoes and everything

I love this series so much! I love the notion of a kickass woman who isn't a bitter and jaded character. She's got empathy for others, optimism about life, and a steel backbone. She's the best heroine I've seen since the original Wonder Woman in the comics.

The story lines are so intriguing, the characters are fantastic, and the scenery can't be beat. I so hope there's another season where we can see what she discovers about her father and where we see more of the romance with Capitano Riva. I want to see more of her fascinating artist sister, as well.

And, for me, one of the best parts is that she wears comfortable shoes! Those stupid things where the heroine runs and fights with stiletto heels have always been ridiculous. Sylvia wears sensible shoes, even when she's wearing a dress! Brava!

Great end to a super first series.

Who killed Mario?

Sylvia is shocked when Adam pops up in Italy, he asks her to house murder suspect Sasha Pavlenko, who's accused of murdering local guy Mario, Sylvia is already tasked with hunting for a prized pig.

It's been a great first series, and as I'd hoped for, it ends with another truly excellent episode. They've all been good, but this one may have been the pick of the trio, perhaps the most serious, arguably the best mix of characters.

Emilia Fox was brilliant get again, and about time we got to see her doing some fisticuffs. I really did enjoy Sylvia's relationship with Sasha, it brought out a different side to her.

Alexander Arnold is excellent as Sasha, of course he's British, but he did a convincing job as Russian Sasha, not just the accent, but his body language and general demeanour.

I look forward to series two.

Excellent.

9/10.

Where is Season 2?
FridayGal1 May 2024
I'm enjoying this series. I agree with several previous reviewers that the mysteries are cozy, not violent or brutal, but there is definitely a mystery for Sheila to solve. I also agree that the Italian scenery is lovely, even though it's probably not really filmed in Italy. The cast is strong and sensual. I'm almost ready to watch Season 2. Yet, the info on Season 2 says it is in production and that's over two years ago - 2022! So, each episode is posted here with each plot, but no view date is given and no info is listed on AcornTV. Anyone have any idea where, or if, it's streaming somewhere?

Another gay plot - no disrespect but bored of every show doing it

Warning: Spoilers
Really enjoyed ep 1 and 2 as they told original stories, but this just goes down the done-to-death LGBT path. I'm not intending to be offensive, but there are plenty of other topics to cover, so why does it have to be the same thing all the time? Hopefully future episodes will be more fresh.

A truffle pig trifle ...
bosporan19 May 2022
Another yawn fest travelogue with a truffle pig comedy and a hole-ridden detective plot thrown onto a half-baked romance story. This has a fabulous premise, but this scattergun approach has destroyed it.
