Amateurish
danielcereto4 March 2023
The movie is an amateurish way to copy several movies like Reeker or Jeepers Creepers. But in a bad way. The movie looks extremely cheap and the script is non existent. The ending is a joke. Nothing new here or interesting.

Is it a good movie? No it is not. Is it entertaining? No, it is predictable. Why the three stars? I really enjoyed watching the Joshua Tree National park settings and the main actress does a good job here. The other one is a tip. A tip because I love independent B cinema.

So, if you're looking for a similar movie I recommend instead of this one, the movie Reeker. More creepy, better Fx's, more original and with more or less the same budget.

Not Quite A Ghost Story.
meddlecore27 April 2023
The Fearway is the feature length debut from fledgling director Robert Gajic.

It tells the story of a young, soon to be newlywed, couple, who find themselves caught in a loop, surrounded by a handful of seemingly malevolent characters- not all of of which mean to do them harm- while traveling down an isolated stretch of Highway 66.

While trapped in this bizarre experience, they find themselves being chased down by a demonic looking man, driving a black muscle car.

From whom they can't seem to escape.

Their only moments of respite come when they pull off at the Last Chance Rest Stop...where they meet a number of other odd characters.

Eventually, they do manage to put the pieces together, and figure out what is happening to them.

Leaving them to fight for a final chance to escape, what would otherwise be a grim fate.

Unfortunately the acting is pretty mid across the board.

While the storyline is a bit too predictable.

Making the whole experience a bit underwhelming.

But, with that being said...it's a valiant attempt at a first feature.

With some decent moments of cinematography.

Though certainly a film you won't be disappointed with if you miss.

2.5 out of 10.

This is fine(?) but I prefer Reeker.
KikyNez15 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
So, I juts watched this movie and I was like: "I've seen the 2023 down quality version of 'Reeker'"

Reeker is a 2005 movie, with a sequel 'No man's Land' in 2008. IT HAVE ALMOST THE SAME PLOT AND EXACTLY THE SAME PLOT TWIST.

I've read people calling "The Fearway" something in the lines of "Jeepers creepers meet Duel".

NO ONE REMEMBERS NONE OF BOTH REEKER'S MOVIES??

A lot of things, even if you haven't seen those two, are predictable since the beginning, "Oh, she's..." or "Ah,fork... those two are..." and I'm being vague, because you can fill the phrase with whatever you want in, and you'll guess everything that happen.

I knew how it would end since the two leading "hit" something on the road, get out of the car and they found "Ice". And it runs 1 hour and 17 mins. With ending credits (still felt too long)

What's different here from 'Reeker'?

SPOILER ALERT: The bar/rest place is a management site in between "worlds" , where the people who works there (and made a deal?) are connected to High Authority (name the Gods or the Moiras or whomever you want) and it have the weaker end I've seen. It was absolutely bland.

The acting is not bad, the actors do what they can with what they got. But there are three characters in minor subplot that were wasted, they were very good.

The Hunter was amazing, but (sadly) reminded me of The Creeper. The actor did pretty good though.

But the manager character was ... damn,I don't have a quality name for someone who's absolutely negated and contradicts himself between lines in the same scene.

The two leadings, as said, are good, but lack chemistry, sadly. And the age gap is more than evident, so line drop that they knew each other since high school (I don't recall exactly, but he says so) is not good.

I didn't understand why it was kept in script if you cast two leads with more than 10/15 years gap.

Subplots were wasted as well, specially the thing in the room.

So, here I go.

The best: good use of the desert and locations. Technically is pretty cool. The Hunter was fine, loved the actor.

The bad: script, the non coherent dialogue at time, the underused actors and subplots, and the ending.

The worst: the unoriginality.

Rate 5/10 (because I liked the Hunter and the film the technical parts).

I'll not recommend, I prefer "Reeker" hundred times.

Watch at your own risk.

We are all critics, but you have to watch to make a critic.

Simply Unwatchable
anne-966315 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
But I watched it anyway and I will regret it for the rest of my life. The dialogue is stilted. There is no chemistry between the stars. There's no claustrophobic effect. They drive around in circles bickering about what to do and when to get married. There were miscellaneous, unrelated characters hanging out in a diner, one of whom was evidently fed to the devil, more than once. The end of the movie tries to roll out the clichés about free will but you can't tell if they live or die. I paid five dollars to watch this movie while I recovered from knee surgery. I'd rather have my other knee operated on than to watch this again.

Cheap Jeepers Creepers
trish-677526 July 2023
I had a feeling this was going to be a poor mans Jeepers Creepers and within the first 5 minutes my assumption was a bit stronger but the further I got I realized I was 100% right. I made it maybe 20 minutes in. I honestly have no idea since I stopped the movie and deleted it from my Prime watch history. I don't even want a reminder that I saw any part of this movie.

The Ferry Man looked very low budget and tacky. They couldn't even afford FX. I truly can't believe friends told them that this was a good idea to make, then patted them on the back after making it. Laughable attempt at a horror movie. Truly, what was the idea?

Could've had a V8!

Who are these people?
silverton-379595 July 2023
I've never seen the two actors in the opening scene and I don't think I've even seen their names on any other film, but they are insufferable. The two of them seem to have made up an extremely annoying accent that isn't regional, as far as I can tell, and it isn't an accent from someone who speaks English as an alternate language to their native language. The accent is so phony that I can't take it because it grates on my nerves like the sound of fingernails on a chalkboard.

I was about 3 minutes into this thing when I was almost overcome by the urge to hunt these two idiots down and tape their mouths over. The accent sounds like twinspeak, which, according to the film "Nell", is a language made up by twins, supposedly, and not spoken or understood by anyone else.

I doubt that I will be able to review anything past the first set of scenes since I tuned out early on this. If I do watch more, maybe I can expand on this review later.

Dreadful
mekid-331836 August 2023
It's the story of Ricky gervais look alike who drives in an empty road in the middle of the US with his girlfriend who appears to be half his age, they are hunted down by a maniac. It's basically a poor man version of duel, without a truck

The acting is dreadful, it looks like a high school movie with a script and dialogues written by 12 years olds.

Premise good, execution poor
katyrowland5 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Where do I start? The plot could actually have been pretty good. I like the idea of being chased by some kind of entity and going round in circles, unable to work out where you are or how to escape. The movies ending is also twisty and could have been good. However, the acting is terrible and the casting poor. The 2 main characters are supposed to have been high school sweethearts, however she looks early 20's and he looks to be mid forties. There is zero chemistry between them and it's just completely unbelievable for the audience.

The make up on the Ferryman is terrible. I've seen kids with better Halloween makeup. Very cheap.

The script is poorly written as well. It's a shame, as it could have had premise.

Avoid.

Don't go by most of the reviews
zandurian14 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Apparently either people are making stuff up about this movie or they got the movies confused. I think someone should look into it. There were no twins and no accents from previous reviews and no sex scenes either, unless I saw some pg version. So I agree with the couple thing though she's cute, he looks 10 plus her age to be high-school sweethearts. I don't even see any Christianity in here except one of the guys did say free will just so we'd know who He was talking to at the end of the movie. But anyway, it was fun, I liked the free coin idea and the guy chasing them down the highway was creepy looking. I would say it was fun, don't expect a blockbuster but I enjoyed it...

Student-like film, sub-par acting and drag-along story
FixedYourEnding30 August 2023
My problem with "Fearway" is not the fact that it is super-low budget, which affects the sub-par casting, sound effects and camera work; it is the lack of attention to details in the story. Couple of examples: unmatching license plates on the front and back of the car. Car being brand new (probably a rental, still have "no smoking" stickers on it) yet the boyfriend refers to it as "it took me a long time to pay for it", the police tells the girl "you and your boyfriend" although she never mentions she has a boyfriend and that doesn't seem weird to her, etc, etc. With all these add up it is very hard to get engaged in the story. Another goof is when they stopped at the side of the road he says "we should call your dad tel him we'll be late" but they have not even decided to even take a break at that point. It basically looks like it was filmed over a weekend with no second takes, whatever made it in the edits - stayed.

The movie keeps dragging along to the point where the big reveal at the end should be completely shocking in order to make it worthwhile, but alas- it is not. It is not scary at all and the overall scenes are disappointing in the sense that they are all flat, somewhat even laughable. The acting is mediocre at best all-around and the casting of the main actors is completely off, they don't look and act the part. If you are expecting a "Jeepers Creepers" vibe movie you will be highly disappointed. It is a big bore-fest.

It will be hard for me to recommend this movie to anyone. Not even good enough to show students, since it cannot even give pointers to new actors or directors, that's the level of badness this firms at. I give 2 stars for the story, since it is a nice idea, which could be made a lot better under the hands of a better crew. There are not many redeeming qualities on this one. I rarely give anything less than 4 stars but in this case it is really does not worth anybody's time. For the writer/director - please give more attention to details next time so people at least see that you cared, otherwise it is just insulting to both you and the audience.

Creepy Mystery with Nice Touches
icocleric26 July 2023
I thought this film was going to be awful, but it turned out to be more fun than I thought with some nice touches. I did guess the plot twist fairly quickly in, because I have seen other films with a familiar premise, and the hints are there. I thought it was going to be a cheap knock off of films like Jeepers Creepers, especially with the creepy guy. But I'm glad I was wrong about that.

I don't think it's a tense or scary style horror, it's more figure out what is going on mystery/twilight zone type horror. My favourite touch of the film was everyone getting the two coins in the diner.

The budget is not big, but I did notice there were some extremely pretty shots, and the camera work is beautiful. I wish I would have known the story behind the secondary characters more because they clearly have a tale to tell.

It's not big Hollywood Film good, but I thought it had a lot to like.

Could've been so much better
Christopher37023 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I love movies about being chased on the road by a crazed psycho in the middle of the desert with nowhere to go for help, but this movie just didn't deliver it for me.

It did build some kind of suspense in the beginning when I wondered just what the hell was going on, but then when things are finally revealed I was left scratching my head because it made no sense to me whatsoever.

******SPOILERS COMING!!!!!!!*******

Ok....since the beginning of time everyone has died. Everyone reading this review will one day die as well as myself too. To portray death as this sinister, evil looking "ferryman" with fangs who slashes people across the chest with pointy fingernails to take them to the other side is absurd. I've obviously never died before, but I highly doubt that death will come in the form of someone/something so sinister and evil.

For this film to portray death as like that is ridiculous because it assumes that when all of our lives are over, we're going to be met with this angry, evil creature who wants to harm us lol. No, I don't think so. Like I said, I have never died (obviously), but inherently, I just do not feel this and thought it was absurd of the filmmakers to imply death this way.

Had the film specifically stated that this was in fact the Devil who was fighting for their souls, I would have given it more stars, but to basically imply that death for all of us is going to be greeted with a sinister evil man with fangs and pointy fingernails who wants to hurt us is not a very good message to send. I can't speak for anyone else, but my personal view of death is the exact opposite of what this film implies.

Had they just said he was the Devil wanting their souls and the waitress and busboy in the diner were angels who were trying to fight the Devil and help the couple, it would have been so much better and more suspenseful for me.

That would have really elevated this film up a lot imo. I'm giving it 2 stars only for the beautiful visuals of the desert that the film was produced in (it really was breathtaking to look at)...and I thought the woman who played the waitress was pretty good and while watching the movie I was wishing that she were the lead character instead because I felt she was much more interesting than the lead actress and I liked her a lot more.

I can't recommend this film because even without the absurdity of implying that Death is some evil and sinister being waiting to devour us all, it's just a really boring and foolish movie. I'm rating it 2 stars (and that's being very generous).

like the premise in theory
SnoopyStyle11 April 2024
Sarah (Shannon Dalonzo) and Michael are driving down Route 66 in the desert. They are being chased by a crazed man driving a black muscle car. They stop at a diner in the middle of nowhere with its cast of characters. Sarah and Michael seem to be in a permanent loop of being chased and stopping at the diner.

The premise is a little interesting and Kafkaesque. I like the general idea of it in theory. Sarah and Michael need to be more in depth. They do need some more car action. The diner could do more. The movie could do more. It's all rather thin. The writing needs to be more to fill out the movie.

Simple, but enjoyable
What-a-Punk6 April 2023
I couldn't shake the feeling that I saw few movies already with this same premise, but I kind of like it overall, so I didn't consider it to be a drawback.

I liked the secondary characters a lot, this might sound strange, but they were actually quite believable and likeable, they really made up a better part of this movie. While main charactres - not so much, I think the biggest miss was with the main actress. And the clothes that the main guy was wearing - felt like a big miss. And finally the biggest miss - their car, haha, big bummer. Probably sponsored by the manufacturer, that why...

The main antagonist as well, was not ideal I think, first of all, I think he should've been made more subtle, they showed him off too much and most of the time he was just following or watching them, it didn't feel like a haunting and he didn't feel scary or terrifying enough. I think they surely could've done a better job with the makeup for him and maybe something more for the eyes to make him look really sinister. And his car as well - although the car selection might be fine this time, it was still too clean and shiny for the purpose... There were some scenes where you could tell its not a bad movie, because characters were acting more realistic then in the most horror movies I've seen, so that's a plus.

I wish they've spent some time to expose the story behind secondary characters, at least just a big, with some subtle message, instead of all these superficial boring talks that main characters had about their past and planned future.

Overall, it's a so-so movie, if you don't come in with high expectations, you might find it enjoyable eventually. I did.

Great film!
Peter-M-Gaynor15 July 2023
A terrific script, excellent acting, competent direction and what do you get? An entertaining film for sci-fi fans and "speculative fiction" aficionados. A trip through the desert gets loopy and existentially dark. Enough said. On Amazon, it's given three (out of five) stars, but it's better than that. I stumbled across it in the seemingly endless queue of suggestions, and was immediately hooked. I had just spent $30 for the latest Insidious film and snacks and left halfway through. Bummed. Let's get the actors and writers back to work to encourage the best work. It's the "smaller" films like Fearway that could be hurt by a lengthy strike; the big guys can afford to sit. Anyway, hoping for a good resolution. In the meantime, check out this flick!

Worth a watch
fregosi115 March 2023
If you're expecting a Marvel like budget with scary scenes, then forget it. If you want a nice little Twilight Zone type movie with little to no gore or violence, then this is for you. The Fearway is what micro low budget independent filmmaking is all about, and that's not a bad thing. The two leads do a great job (Especially Shannon Dalonzo) despite being a little mismatched. They could have easily done away with the "High School Sweethearts" in the script which isn't very believable. But because they convince the audience they're really in love, it can be forgiven. Perhaps too much dialogue and slow at first but gets interesting once they first arrive at the diner. (Its never clear what happened to the other patrons sitting in there.) The villain is not scary at all, but again that's because of the low budget more than anything else. This scores a home run with some great award caliber cinematography of the desert vistas. The movie could have used at least one really good shock scene, but that never happen. Not a classic by any means, but most independent movies aren't. I've seen a lot worse. Perhaps the best compliment I could give The Fearway is I would watch it again.

VIEWS ON FILM review of The Fearway
burlesonjesse52 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The Fearway is one of those movies where you anticipate with bated breath, how it's going to end. In other words, where is the story headed? Why do the main characters drive around in a circle (that's not a circle)? Who's this creepy dude they call the "Ferryman?" And why is Eileen Dietz (the demon face from The Exorcist) featured in a millisecond cameo? Questions, questions, questions and "Fearway" holds you hostage for 81 minutes whether you enjoy what's on screen or not. "It's just not possible". Oh but it is my friends, it is.

You see, that's what The Fearway is designed to do. It wants you to think about it long after the credits roll. That's why the pic concludes abruptly, making you feel cheated for investing your vigor in its dusty, B-movie fodder. I mean I'm not saying I wasn't mildly entertained but I wanted more than just a snippet, a pitying horror snapshot if you will. I wanted an extra twenty minutes maybe, a way for the helmer (Robert Gajic) to let me into his "white nights" in the desert or his stagnant, time continuum. Just help me out and uh, don't leave my hanging bro.

Filmed in the middle of nowhere with possibly 1-2 set locations (Lancaster, California being one of them), The Fearway makes you snicker a little with its giggling title and its main leads who bicker like an old, married couple even though they haven't even been engaged yet (it gets annoying real fast). You see Sarah and Michael (played by Justin Gordon and Shannon Dalonzo) are driving down the freeway, venturing to visit their parents in god knows where. The problem? Well they keep getting sidetracked in Blair Witch mode, ending up at the same place (a rundown restaurant) while being followed by a demonic dude driving a blackened PT Cruiser (I need to get me one of those). The acting is palatable but a little flimsy, Gajic's streamlined direction is solid enough, and the afterlife, twist coda is a nice touch. Sadly, "Fearway" just doesn't provide enough true resolve and/or cinematic buoyancy to garner a recommendation. "Fear" factored.

Get your Kicks on Route 66
GoldenGooner049 November 2023
I plan to do Route 66 next year in a Dodge Challenger, which after watching this film is a bit "concerning" The car did look good, but am a Mustang man, as have my baby 2016 CS, fancied something different for Route 66 Unusual to have a English guy in one of these films. And of course he is not 100% out of place in the Diner I mean just look at the clothes Are there "Dead Zones" on Route 66? Rather worrying if there are If I drive along with a UK flag, will the Nutters leave me alone? I won't spoil this rather daft film.

The British bloke is so badly cast, I mean he kept the London accent very well. Surprised it's not raining or he is not in a bowler hate and has a umbrella.

This is one of these films that is just so very bad, but you have to watch till the end as you don't have a cluedo what the ending is. So I suppose in that case it's what's the word "watchable"

The worse horror movie in the world
pjdwsyb11 May 2024
I better recommend the audience to watch the "From" series that has more action and scary makeup than this garbage that has no context. I shouldn't have wasted my time watching this horrible movie when there are so many super well rated movies out there.

I really expected more action, mystery, suspense and so on, I think the Director or the scriptwriter fell short or it's amateurish.

The end however arrives, a real disappointment and never seems to move towards a solution or way to scape like been trapped in ghost town without ghosts jajajajajajjajajaja it was a joke.

I want my money back please !
