I’ll say this much about sometimes-monotonous Sharknado 5: Global Swarming: it was a slight improvement on last year’s completely monotonous The 4th Awakens.
Surveying the franchise-to-date, as TVLine’s resident, I’m Getting Too Old for This Fish expert: Part 2 (The Second One) still reigns, having served up fun riffs on Airplane! and the like. Part 3 (Oh Hell No!) was inundated with un-clever NBC Universal shilling, you will (?) remember, while Part 4 seemed content to introduce a new, high-larious kind of “-nado” every five minutes… and leave it at that.
Picking up not too long after the events of The 4th Awakens,...

An Oregon main is accused of decapitating his mother on Sunday and carrying her severed head and a knife with him into a rural grocery store where — covered in blood — he allegedly stabbed a clerk who then detained him with the aid of other store workers, People confirms.
The Clackamas County, Oregon, Sheriff’s Office identified the suspect as 36-year-old Joshua Lee Webb, of Colton, Oregon, and said the victim in the Mother’s Day slaying was his mother, 59-year-old Tina Webb.
“My wife was wonderful,” Tina’s husband, David Webb, told The Oregonian. “I’ve been married to her for almost 41 years.

Some say horror and the holidays just don't mix, which is hogwash. Have you ever seen Bob Clark's great Yuletide slasher "Black Christmas"? Margot Kidder's oversexed sorority sister is calling you. Okay, so there are a lot of bad Christmas horror movies too. Like, a lot. "Christmas Evil," anyone? "Silent Night, Deadly Night"? The "Black Christmas" remake? Not great. Still, these hilarious cinematic atrocities (and a few better-than-expected gems) are an essential part of HitFix's "2 Minute History of Christmas Horror Movies," which features the following treasures: 1. A terrible old man scaring the pants off of a small, adorable child with the line, "You see Santa Claus tonight, you better run, boy. You better run...for your Life!" while cackling. 2. The most incredible "giant killer snowman-devouring-a-Playboy-model" scene ever in movies. 3. A film called "Nick and Hogan Smoke Christmas," which was made in someone's parents' backyard. 4. The simultaneous career nadir...

Last week, I wasn't so sure that I wanted to spend an hour catching up with Beth (Emily Kinney), who's been absent so far from the fifth season of "The Walking Dead." After viewing Sunday's episode, "Slabtown," I'm still not entirely convinced.
I wouldn't call it a bad episode, per se; like HitFix critic Alan Sepinwall, I found it miles better than the insipid Governor-centric installment from season four, one of the show's few forays into solo character episodes. Beth has grown by leaps and bounds in terms of character development since her introduction as Hershel's suicidal daughter in season two, and her budding relationship with Daryl (whether it's romantic or platonic is Tbd) added new shades to her personality that made her seem integral to the show for the first time. But my problem with Beth's big showcase episode - which finds her trapped in a hospital in downtown...

Pat Benatar burst on the scene in late 1979, and for most of the 80′s she ruled the charts and concerts stages. During the decade, she won four consecutive Grammy Awards for Best Female Rock Vocal, had two Multi-Platinum albums, five Platinum albums, three Gold albums and 14 Top 40 singles. She was a also a huge presence in the early days of MTV, and was a fashion icon for her spandex and “Benatar Hair.”
Strangely, she rarely gets a mention when it comes to the “gay icon” label, even though she’s played countless Pride events, numerous AIDS Walks, and has always maintained that her gay audience is her favorite audience. And let’s face it, her music is all about being yourself and not taking shit from anyone, which is a message many of us of a certain age took to heart when we were young.
Today is her 61st birthday,...

A confession: I’m not wild about Christmas. As somebody who gets unnecessarily neurotic about whether or not everybody else is having a good time, the onset of shopping crowds, traveling woes, gift-buying difficulties, and food-related malaise often overwhelms my delicate constitution. (Also, the constant claptrap about the War on Christmas doesn’t make the season any more fun.)
But there are a handful of Christmas traditions I have adopted over the years that have made the last six weeks of the year something close to bearable. The cornerstone of those rituals is the annual viewing of Silent Night, Deadly Night,...

On August 1, 1981, the world was introduced to Music Television.
After airing a numerical countdown, MTV began with the words "Ladies and gentleman, rock and roll."
In the decades since, MTV has made the transition from music videos to "Trl" to "The Hills" to "Catfish," and it's now more of a home for reality television than for music's latest visuals.
In celebration of the launch of MTV, take a trip down memory lane with the first ten videos that MTV aired below.
1. "Video Killed the Radio Star" - The Buggles
2. "You Better Run" - Pat Benatar
3. "She Won't Dance with Me" - Rod Stewart

Before we crack open the recapping on a new season of Spartacus: War of the Damned, permit me just a brief moment to pause, reflect, and remember the fallen hottie who has been lost to us. Yes, I eulogize you, Gaius Hottius Glaber, sexiest stud in all of Capua. Woe betide those, like me, who will not have your magnificent buns of steel to obsess over during this new season of mayhem, evisceration, decapitation, de-limbing, de-legging, de-kidneying, and manly bonding. And please, my fellow mourners, let our sadness only be salved by the fact that there are those amongst who have taken glorious screencaps of beautiful Gaius’ most electrifying on-screen moments, so that we may relive them over and over (and over and over and over.) Let us be thankful that, on the internet, the past truly never dies (does it, Manti Te’o?). Amen, praise to Jupiter, Isis, and whoever.

Back in the '80s, when MTV actually played music videos and wasn't flooded with heavily-scripted reality TV shows, Pat Benatar ruled the network. She made waves with the her vocal range, skintight leggings and electric eye makeup in "You Better Run" -- the second video to play on MTV. But for someone who had the rockstar image down pat from the start, including sporting the no-pants look decades before Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj, it all came together by coincidence.
Benatar said, "This came from a Halloween costume I wore. I was dressed as a character from this ridiculous B movie called 'Cat-Women of the Moon.' This was ridiculous then; it's so ridiculous now."
The "Love is a Battlefield" singer continued to rock out shows in her famous leotards until her on-stage look took a drastic turn in the 1990s towards loose-fitting, all black outfits. She's also experimented...

In light of the Dec. 14 school shooting in Newtown, Conn., Foster The People's 2011 summer hit, "Pumped Up Kicks," has been pulled from some radio stations. TMZ reports that L.A. radio station Kiis-fm has taken the song out of rotation entirely.
"Pumped Up Kicks," as poppy and upbeat as it is, chronicles the tale of a school shooter. The lyrics of the song read: "Yeah! He found a six-shooter gun / in his dad's closet, with the box of fun things. I don't even know what, but he's coming for you. Yeah, He's coming for you!"
The song quickly turns into the dark chorus of, "All the other kids with the pumped up kicks / You better run, better run, outrun my gun. All the other kids with the pumped up kicks / You better run, better run, faster than my bullet."
In an earlier interview with NPR, Foster the People frontman,...

Even though last night’s “Sick” felt awfully similar to the Season 2 chapter, “Nebraska,” The Walking Dead kept its string of fast-paced and balanced episodes going strong, dealing with five new survivors–inmates of the prison that Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and the group stormed in the Season 3 premiere.
We’ll recall in “Nebraska” Rick, Hershel (Scott Wilson), and Glenn (Steven Yeun) meet up with two fowl fellows in a bar who describe the situation outside of Georgia, but also prove to be threats. Quick on the draw, Rick exercised hard choices and kills both men, fearing they would hurt the others at the farm house. He felt the threat in their words and actions. Rick and the others were being backed into a corner and no one puts Rick Grimes in a corner.

Haywire
Directed by: Steven Soderbergh
Cast: Gina Carano, Ewan McGregor, Channing Tatum, Michael Douglas, Michael Fassbender, Michael Anagarano, Antonio Banderas
Running Time: 1 hr 37 mins
Rating: R
Release Date: January 20, 2012
Plot: A private-company assassin (Carano) hunts down those who sold her out after a failed mission in Barcelona.
Who’S It For?: Those who are looking to see the first great film of 2012, and/or miss the type of “real human being, real hero” excitement that made last fall’s Drive so special. Don’t miss Haywire if you miss bad-ass cinema.
Expectations: This was the first movie for screenwriter Dobbs and director Soderbergh since The Limey, right? Would it be too early for one of the best films of 2012?
Scorecard (0-10)
Actors:
Gina Carano as Mallory Kane: Just as porn star Sasha Grey displays a naturalness to Soderbergh’s escort story The Girlfriend Experience, ass-kicking is instinctive for Mma fighter Carano.

You better run! Well at least that’s the advice Jake Gyllenhaal took for this official one-sheet for Source Code. Duncan Jones follow-up to Moon is set to hit theaters on April 1st.
When decorated soldier Captain Colter Stevens wakes up in the body of an unknown man, he discovers he’s part of a mission to find the bomber of a Chicago commuter train. In an assignment unlike any he’s ever known, he learns he’s part of a government experiment called the “Source Code,” a program that enables him to cross over into another man’s identity in the last 8 minutes of his life. With a second, much larger target threatening to kill millions in downtown Chicago, Colter re-lives the incident over and over again, gathering clues each time, until he can solve the mystery of who is behind the bombs and prevent the next attack.
