The first look at The Witcher season 3 lives up to its “teaser” title with just a hint of what fans can expect from the upcoming season. Between the dream sequences of Yennefer and Ciri and a battle preamble between Gareth and an unseen enemy that makes him feel fear for the first time, there’s not much to speculate about. However, the notable appearance of the ghostly Wild Hunt pursuing a fleeing Ciri is a reminder that these extra-dimensional beings could be a major antagonistic force in the coming season.
Take a look at the compelling preview below:
This likely comes as no surprise to readers of the Andrezj Sapkowski novels or players of the game The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in which the spectral horsemen figure prominently, but there are also several hints of what was to come in the events of the finale of The Witcher: Blood Origin as well.

With a new Hellboy movie on the way, now is a great time to revisit Mike Mignola's comic book universe, which features entries from a wide range of immensely imaginative artists and authors, including this year's standalone graphic novel Into the Silent Sea, co-written by Gary Gianni. Gianni's own Monstermen and Other Scary Stories, which spun out of early Hellboy issues, returns to bookstores on August 22nd from Dark Horse, and to celebrate the collection's re-release, we've been provided with a set of preview pages to share with Daily Dead readers.
"Gary Gianni created one of the strangest occult detective teams in comics history: millionaire filmmaker Lawrence St. George and his associate, Benedict, of the venerable guild of Corpus Monstrum. They navigate a peculiar and deadly world plagued by squid pirates, zombie cowboys, abominable snowmen, mustachioed skulls, and fat, flying demons.

Teen Wolf is back, and with its return the endgame has finally arrived. While the first half of season 6 was a solid start and a proper "goodbye" to Stiles (though he will appear in these final 10 episodes), The Wild Hunt didn't really feel like a series ending threat.
In the summer premiere, titled "Said the Spider to the Fly," Teen Wolf ramps things up considerably and truly makes it feel like the end is nigh. As Scott, Lydia and Malia get ready to leave Beacon Hills to go to college and start the next chapter of their lives, all hell starts to break loose, dragging them back into the life they were about to leave.

Bill Pullman is a familiar face that’s hard to define. The eighties found the actor taking a comedic direction with “Ruthless People” and “Spaceballs”; by early the next decade, he was heading into romantic territory in a string of studio romcoms that culminated with “While You Were Sleeping.” The late nineties epitomized the versatility of Pullman’s career, when his roles ranged from the disoriented center of a Kafkaesque nightmare in David Lynch’s “Lost Highway” to the committed U.S. president in the midst of alien invasion in “Independence Day.”
While that film and its rousing speech remain Pullman’s best-known achievement, they hardly begin to epitomize the sheer range of performances in the actor’s roster. Even as Pullman returned this year to play that character for “Independence Day: Resurgence,” he remains nimble as ever, preparing to star in the independent western “The Ballad of Lefty Brown” while developing a play.

MTV's Teen Wolf will end after season 6. Teen Wolf showrunner Jeff Davis made the announcement during a San Diego Comic-Con panel.
“I know we’re sad about it and it’s bittersweet but we’re so happy to be able to come to Comic-Con and share it with you guys,” Davis told the assembled mob, readying torches.
The Teen Wolf panel at Sdcc on Thursday included stars Holland Roden, Dylan Sprayberry, Cody Christian, Khylin Rhambo and Tyler Posey, who has played alpha wolf Scott McCall since the series launched in June 2011.
"This is it — this is the regime that we built," Posey told fans. "I just want to let everybody know from everybody here's heart that this has been the biggest movement that we've ever been a part of.

How will Teen Wolf end?
It was announced earlier today that Season 6 will be the last hurrah for the MTV series.
The news came as a bit of a surprise considering there was no indication prior to this.
That said, the trailer is nothing short of breathtaking.
If you had qualms about Teen Wolf Season 5 (we all did!), then this preview for the final season should have you excited.
The Wild Hunt finally arrives in Beacon Hills.
If you recall, this was already predicted to happen by Kira's mother way back at the top of Season 5.
The trailer also features a race to save Stiles.
It certainly seems as though the series is reaching its frenzied climax, but will they be able to save him?
Stiles has earned the right to be the focal point of the final season. He's hands down the best character on the show.
We are incredible worried for him,...

It’s one of gaming’s harshest truths that some day, eventually, gamers will have to part with their favourite franchises. It could be due to lacklustre sales in a certain entry or a poor critical reception that leads to an untimely demise. Sometimes it just… happens, occasionally without most of us noticing.
Sometimes, however, it’s very much the intention for a developer to call it quits on a given series. It could be because they feel as though they’ve exhausted all the creative potential from the project, or simply because they fancy doing something just a little bit different.
That is of course fine, but sometimes one can’t help shake the feeling that some of these franchises are being abandoned prematurely. No one studio should be tethered to their most popular works, but it’s hard to argue against the fact that certain series, characters...

On the face of things, Fallout 4 and The Witcher 3 couldn’t be any more different. Guns and super mutants vs swords, sorcery and griffins, towns patched together from corrugated metal vs medieval villages, abandoned vaults vs dungeons – and yet any gamer will passionately tell you that this is the most important video game showdown of 2015.
That’s because beneath the contrasting facades, both games sit pretty at the peak of the RPG genre. Neither does anything particularly unconventional, instead both of them offer beautiful, believable open worlds that players can get lost in for months.
Mechanically, RPGs have certain defining traits such as intricate character-levelling, dialogue choices, and a degree of freedom in how the player can approach quests and objectives. But the most important thing is that its constituent parts fuse together to form an experience that the player wants to get immersed in.

CD Projekt is Red teasing its sci-fi RPG Cyberpunk 2077 - a "far, far bigger" game than The Witcher 3, the developer says...
With the increasing popularity of the Witcher series, developer CD Project Red has grown into one of the most respected purveyors of RPGs currently operating.
Its latest game, The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt, is the final entry in the series and widely regarded as the best one yet. But according to the studio's visual effects artist Jose Teixeira, CD Projekt Red's next game, Cyberpunk 2077, will be even bigger and more complex.
“Cyberpunk is far bigger than anything else that CD Projekt Red has done before,” visual effects artist Jose Teixeira told McV. “Far, far bigger. “We're really stepping into the unknown in terms of complexity and size and problems we encounter.”
Cyberpunk 2077 will be the studio's first game outside the Witcher universe, and its first foray into science fiction.

It’s been a long time since a game hit and got everyone talking in a positive way, but thankfully – unlike Bloodborne’s niche appeal or The Order: 1886’s complete lack of anything outside of some fancy-looking cheekbone renders – CD Projekt Red’s final Witcher instalment is one for the ages.

When games suffer long delays the worry tends to set in. Here's some new footage of The Witcher III: Wild Hunt, and it's very, very tasty...
The Witcher III: The Wild Hunt's release date may have been pushed back to May, much to the dismay of eager fans, but it's clear that this extra time is being put to good use. The third game in the critically acclaimed Witcher saga is set to be the largest yet, with claims it's going to be even bigger than the mighty Skyrim in scope. That's a bold statement.

CD Projekt Red has released the opening cinematic for the Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt, and we'll never see ravens in the same light again...
Who'd have thought you could get a head shot with a raven? Well, apparently that's a skill that the love of Geralt of Rivia's life, Yennefer of Vengerberg, has mastered, along with a slew of even more powerful magical abilities.
The opening cinematic of the game shows Geralt and his Witcher mentor, Vesemir, track down Yennifer, exploring the remnants of a battle in which she was present. It's a pretty gruesome showing, and it's clear that the third game of the series is going to let Geralt end his story arc with a bang.
The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt will be released on February 24, 2015 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.

At Sony’s pre Tokyo Games Show press conference, a release date was finally announced for one of Sony’s biggest upcoming exclusives, Bloodborne. The game will be released on February 5th, 2015, exclusively on the PlayStation 4.
February 5th falls on a Thursday, which alludes to this date being the Japanese only release. With games in North America typically being released on Tuesdays and occasionally Fridays, look for another date to be revealed soon.
Bloodborne is the next game by From Software, the creators of the Dark Souls and Demon’s Souls franchises. Both series are known for being extremely challenging and possessing punishing combat that heavily focuses on defensive maneuvers.
From Software has re-tooled the combat for Bloodborne to be more offensive focused in the hopes of giving the game a broader, mainstream appeal. This release news adds another game to an already stacked February lineup, which is set to feature Dying Light,...

If you're an RPG fan, then odds are you'll be heavily anticipating the arrival of CD Projekt Red's upcoming Witcher 3, and after seeing this 35 minute trailer, you'll probably be even more stoked for the game's release.
In this gameplay walkthrough with developer commentary, we see just how vast and open the world of the game will be, and how finely detailed everything in the adventure is. Not only is the game a visual powerhouse, but the seamless world exploration and lack of invisible walls if a major step forward for the series. Previously, the games were large, but still set in smaller, sectioned-off regions. The Witcher 3, on the other hand, would appear far more like Skyrim in terms of scope and scale, perhaps even larger, we'll have to see.

CD Projekt Red revealed a taste of the otherworldly horrors that dwell inside The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The new trailer, released during Gamsecom, features Geralt of Rivia facing a monstrous classic, the werewolf.
But this is no ordinary werewolf... it has supernatural powers. Villagers speak of people aimlessly sleepwalking and an ancient evil that feeds on bloodshed. It appears the werewolves of The Witcher 3 are not recent converts but have been bloodthirsty killers for millennia.
Geralt’s encounter with the wolf beast is nothing short of bone-chilling. It speaks to him telepathically in a voice so cold it will send shivers down your spine. The horrors begin before Geralt even reaches the werewolf when he attempts to traverse the swamp. There he encounters horrific beasts that disappear into the murky water only to spring out right behind him.
This latest video also provides a brief glimpse into some of Geralt’s witcher abilities.

Just when the audience was breathing hot and heavy at the burden of ecstasy that was the Microsoft press conference at this year’s E3, the team behind The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt took the stage.
The definite peak in the excitement was for the purpose of debuting a new gameplay trailer from their upcoming title, The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt, which showed off the game’s protagonist, Geralt, on a hunt for a griffon.
We saw some of Geralt’s special abilities as he was able to heighten his senses to locate his prey. In a very promising next-gen touch, after being hit with a crossbow bolt, the Griffon retreated but left a trail of blood which the player can use to track it. Aside from showing gamers that this will be a true next-gen experience, any excuse to make a game bloodier is a good one.

Gog is going to release its own online gaming service, but this is a client for the gamer, not the publisher...
News
Always the champion of the gamer, and gamer choice, eschewing much-hated tactics like DRM, Gog.com has stepped up its quest to return freedom to the gaming public, and has announced its Galaxy gaming platform.
An online gaming client, similar to Steam and Origin, Galaxy will offer automatic updates, achievements and all sorts of social features, but here's the kicker - you don't actually have to be online if you don't want to be.
Whereas other services, and an increasing amount of individual games, require an active internet connection in order for a game to be played, Galaxy will not. The online portion of the app will be optional, and you'll always be able to access your games offline, at any time. The service will also be platform agnostic,...

If you've been anxiously awaiting new information on The Witcher 3 since it got officially pushed back to a 2015 release, then today's a good day! During a live stream event, developers CD Projekt Red talked about all things Wild Hunt, including details on the game's collector's edition, a stunningly gorgeous E3 2014 trailer, and most importantly...the game's official release date. Come inside to check it all out!
We've already seen some awesome E3 trailers this week (for Dying Light and Shadow of Mordor), and now we've got another one to drool over. CD Projekt Red has released their E3 2014 trailer for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and it has me still picking my jaw off the floor. It gives more details on the game's story, features some pretty good voice work, and shows off some epic gameplay action. All in all, it makes the game's delay to 2015 even more heart breaking.

FRONTIÈRES International Co-Production Market has announced it’s official selection for it’s return to this year’s Fantasia International Film Festival. Frontieres is the first and only co-production market to connect North America and Europe in an environment focused specifically on genre film production. The initiative began in 2012 with 14 projects selected including works by Aaron Moorhead and Justin Benson (Resolution), Stuart Gordon (Re-Animator) and Bruce McDonald (Pontypool). This fourth edition will bring together 12 projects hailing from Canada, Germany, Ireland, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Portugal, the UK and the United-States.
Frontieres will take place from July 24th to 27th. This group of filmmakers in particular presents a high volume of fresh filmmakers, many of whom will be presenting their debut feature length films. This is rounded off by a handful of internationally known filmmakers.

There is nothing quite like a great RPG.
In the video game industry, one of the genres best adept at immersing the player into a story and environment is the tried n’ tested role-playing game. While all video games place the player into a character role of some kind, RPGs do it best because that is the primary focus. The game design, through mechanics like character creation, ability distribution, and levelling up, functions as a means of allowing the player to build their character at their own pace. It is a mentally pleasurable experience because it makes the player feel like they are contributing to the character’s development, however minuscule it might actually be.
There have been many great releases over the years; Final Fantasy, Pokemon, Elder Scrolls, Fallout and Mass Effect are just some of the most popular titles, each of which deserves all the praise they receive.

Grimm is back,nMonroe's in tears, and it's time for Adalind to pick a side. Here's Christine's review of Revelation...
This review contains spoilers.
3.13 Revelation
Grimm returned to our screens on Friday following a month-long hiatus for the Winter Olympics, and it picks up right where it left off – with Monroe’s dad about to launch himself at his son’s best friend in a Blutbad rage.
(To recap, Blutbad Monroe’s parents, Bart and Alice, had just discovered that their son is about to marry a Fuchsbau, and weren’t reacting well to the news. But then with colossally bad timing, in walks Nick – who as a Grimm is a sworn enemy to all Wesen. Cue woging, snarling and lunging from Bart.)
As expected, no-one is fatally bitten or decapitated in Monroe’s living room. But the perceived betrayal of their kind is...

Grimm is back on its game with a gore, romance and conflict-filled episode. Here's Christine's review...
This review contains spoilers.
3.12 The Wild Hunt
Hooray! This week saw a welcome return to form for our favourite fairytale-inspired detective show.
In the last episode before a month-long break – yeah, thanks Winter Olympics – we were treated to action, gore, romance, comedy and a “uh-ho” moment at the end that makes the four week wait until the next instalment more than a little frustrating.
More importantly, though, the writers attempted to cautiously edge some storylines out of the spot where they’ve been parked for weeks, and take them for a spin around the block.
First things first though – we have a Wesen wedding to look forward to as Rosalee accepted Monroe’s proposal of marriage! The lead up was charming, with a fancy dinner (Rosalee really scrubs...

Grimm, Season 3, Episode 12: “The Wild Hunt”
Written by Jim Kouf & David Greenwalt
Directed by Rob Bailey
Airs Fridays at 9pm Est on NBC
This week, on Grimm: Monroe modifies one of his clocks, Nick hunts a scalper, and Adalind prepares for Baby
Grimm heads off into an Olympics-necessitated month-long hiatus this week with a strong first half of a presumed two-parter, with significant progress on both character and plot fronts and a couple entertaining cliffhangers. The case of the week is interesting and appropriately gruesome, with a new berserker Wesen hunting down “worthy” victims and scalping them in an attempt to gain their power, but wisely most of this subplot is held for part two, allowing Jim Kouf and David Greenwalt to focus instead on Adalind’s continuing saga in Vienna as well as some dramatic developments closer to home.
Adalind’s European adventure has been a frustratingly stagnant arc throughout the season,...

Are congratulations in order for one couple on "Grimm?" Maybe not.
Although Monroe (Silas Weir Mitchell) and Rosalee (Bree Turner) got engaged during "The Wild Hunt" on Friday (Jan. 24), there might not be a happy ending in store for the Wesen couple.
You see, after Monroe's beautifully romantic proposal -- complete with scintillating dinner conversation at a fancy restaurant and a special cuckoo clock set to chime "Will you marry me?" -- his parents Alice (Dee Wallace) and Bart (Chris Mulkey) show up earlier than they were supposed to, and didn't exactly approve of their son's new fiancee.
Well, they do at first, since it seems like Rosalee is just a normal, lovely woman. Until they go in for a hug and realize she's actually a Fuchsbau. That's when an argument to end all dysfunctional family arguments breaks out between Monroe, his parents, and even Rosalee, who is upset that...

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has a new, impressive trailer, and you can find it here...
CD Projekt Red's The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is set to tell the final tale of the legendary Witcher, Geralt of Rivia, and here's the latest trailer that’s doing the rounds of E3.
The new game will expand upon the experience of the previous two, featuring a multi-region open world setting that's going to be much more flexible and open that the two previous titles. This world will, apparently, be 35 times bigger than the one seen in The Witcher 2, and it'll also feature a redesigned combat engine, granting much more fluid and responsive fighting.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is set to arrive on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC sometime in 2014.

The Toronto International Film Festival is a ludicrous bounty of cinematic riches, showcasing hundreds of potentially amazing films both old and new. That it’s all crammed into only 10 days means it’s too much for any one mere mortal to even get a proper grasp of. Horror anthologies are always a tantalizing prospect, but rarely do the segments come together to form a satisfying whole; usually, a weak effort or two sours the bunch. The ABCs of Death might well be the most ambitious film of its kind,...

Act of Valor
Directed by: Mike McCoy and Scott Waugh
Cast: Active Duty Navy SEALs, Jason Cottle, Alex Veadov
Running Time: 1 hr 51 mins
Rating: R
Release Date: February 24, 2012
Plot: A group of Navy Seals try to stop a terrorist cell led by a radical named Shabal (Cottle) and funded by his childhood friend (Veadov).
Who’S It For?: I won’t get political with this section, but the division seems pretty clear. If you think watching real SEALs play around in the structure of a generic action movie sounds cool, then you might enjoy Act of Valor for its simple pleasures. If that doesn’t sound like your fare, don’t even bother. Anybody who heavily enjoys video games like “Call of Duty” will be stuck somewhere in between both camps, unsure as whether to see this as a recruitment video, dumb fun, or both.
Expectations: Going into Act of Valor...

Genre buddy and fellow root canal survivor Rob Hunter came to my aid this week when it was time for title selection. I was stupidly about to put in The Wild Hunt, which has something to do with LARPing and virgins or something, when the Foreign Objects author suggested I try something a little more sub-titled. Dream Home is the story about the American dream taking place in Hong Kong. Young Cheng Lai-sheung (Josie Ho) is a phone representative for a bank in Hong Kong and all she wants out of life is a nice flat with a view of the ocean for her ailing grandfather to live in. She’ll stop at nothing to get that home, from scraping together every penny and working two extra jobs. After raising enough capital to buy into the flat, the sellers decide to ask for more money and Cheng reacts completely reasonably. For...

This week on Operation Kino, we're writing down secret files about everyone who downloads this podcast, as we review the new Clint Eastwood directed biopic J. Edgar. After that we talk about a problem that Eastwood himself never has-- movie budgets, why they're so ridiculously gigantic, and what Hollywood can do to stop spending so much damn money for no reason. But first we start with a lightning round devoted to shirtless men like the ones in Immortals, then move on to tidbits, where Da7e wonders about the viability of LARPing movies like The Wild Hunt, David is incensed about plans for the new James Bond movie Skyfall, Patches recounts seeing Lawrence of Arabia in 70 mm, and Katey is a changed moviegoer thanks to watching the first season of The WIre. You may notice the home of Operation Kino is looking a little different, and may we say spiffier.

“The Wild Hunt” is a Canadian production from 2009, which having enjoyed a successful and award winning run at festivals now arrives on region 2 DVD. Marking the debut of writer director Alexandre Franchi, the film is set in the world of LARPing, or for the uninitiated (this reviewer included), Live Action Role Playing, which basically involves people dressing up as fantasy characters and running around in the woods with rubber weapons. Having been compared to “Lord of the Flies”, the film revolves around the premise of LARPers taking things too far, leading to violent and tragic consequences. The plot kicks off with a young guy called Erik Magnusson (Ricky Mabe, “Trailer Park of Terror”) falling out with his girlfriend Evelyn (Tiio Horn, “The Theatre Bizarre”) over her leaving for a weekend to join in a Larp game with his older brother Bjorn (Mark A. Krupa, “The Last Templar”). After sulking for a while,...

Have you dudes seen the trailer for Nights of Badassdom yet? I think you might need to. The movie's about some live-action role players that accidentally summon demons to their big nerd event. It also stars Danny Pudi from the amazing show "Community," Summer Glau from "Firefly" and the least lame cast member of "True Blood," Ryan Kwanten. It looks mighty fun and can be a nice piece to our inevitable theme show of movies about LARPing, also featuring "The Wild Hunt" and "Role Models."...

The first trailer for LARPing horror/comedy Knights of Badassdom has finally premiered after much anticipation from the fanboy community.
I can see why people are excited about this film. It's got a strong cast in Steve Zahn, True Blood's Ryan Kwanten and Game of Thrones' Peter Dinklage. It also fills its sexy-geek-girl quota nicely with the inclusion of Summer Glau. But a movie about live-action role players who wind-up dealing with the fantasy in reality just doesn't feel original enough to get excited about for me. It just feels obvious and it's certainly been done before. I'm also getting flashbacks to Your Highness -- hardly a watershed of comic fantasy.
Word from the film's Comic Con panel is that the film is much more violent and foul-mouthed than perhaps this trailer lets on. That in itself does not equal a good film, so it's really going to...
