Ensign O'Toole (Dean Jones) is discouraged after always losing bets to the USS Elroy. Within the crew of his USS Appleby, O'Toole finds that Seaman White (Robert Sorrells) is a champion bowler. Chief Nelson (Jay C. Flippen) has Seaman Di Julio (Harvey Lembeck) to signal the Elroy. In doing so he messes up the blinking code and challenges the Elroy to "boxling". They assume he means boxing, and are eager at the proposition as the heavyweight champion of the 7th Fleet has just transferred to them. "Neanderthal Nathan" (Cal Bolder) and the Elroy's Ensign Baxter (Gary Crosby) go aboard the Appleby to discuss the match and discover the miscommunication. The crew of the Elroy won't let them out of the bet, however. O'Toole finds a strapping new seaman Goliath Jones (Roger Torrey) for the match, but he has no prior ring experience. Seaman White is discovered to have been a good fighter, but has promised his wife that he would never fight again. He sets out to outwit him in the ring.
