How can the quality of two fights happening at the same time be so different?

The hand-to-hand combat was abysmal this episode, the choreography was fine, if nothing special, but the silly sound constantly drowning everything else annoyed the heck out of me, making a passable fight into a terrible one.

On the other hand, Jesper's gunslinging was outright BEAUTIFUL to witness, some of the best gunslinging I've seen out of modern television. The acting is great, his flamboyant choreography might be off-putting to some, but it fits his character perfectly. The magical gunslinger was never a trope that appealed to me, but this one just works, and as a result, he stole this episode's spotlight in a single action sequence, much like last season.

Good story, abysmal choreography

All in all I am really liking this second season and the actors are doing a good job in portraying their characters. The dynamics are great, a bit of intrigue is kept alive and the plot is not too contrived. The CGI is really good and even though some of the costumes (privateer-group) look a bit too obviously like plastic and don't make much sense (tiny, thin throwing axes) it is alright!

But what really threw me off this episode was the terrible fight-choreography. This is not the actors fault, but clearly just bad writing. The last 20 minutes of this episode where honestly hard to endure as the cast was just flailing around and made the most illogical and dumb choices in a situation of life and death.

This could be really great show if the writers would put a bit more effort into the fights.

About what most others look for in a storytelling venture...but what EYE look for is good storytelling, overall...the only other comments so far to this episode is about...the choreOGRAPHY? REALly? I fast forwarded through those parts...i want good choreography i go to an Alvin Bailey performance...or a Broadway musical... no. Sorry...i was disappointed with the pilot(episode before this) of this season because the storytelling was 'anemic'...but this episode seemed more consistent with the strength of the storytelling in the first season...and since there's still a few characters required to this review, 'anyone care to dance?'...

Seas of Power, Alliance Forged, and Shadows Awakened

"Shadow and Bone" Season 2, Episode 2, sails into brilliance with a perfect 10/10, weaving a tale of seas of power, forged alliances, and the awakening shadows in the Grishaverse.

Alina's compelling quest to destroy the Shadow Fold takes center stage as she persuades Sturmhond and his crew to join a daring expedition to harness the powers of a Sea Whip. The narrative unfolds with intricacy as Alina befriends heartrenders Tolya and Tamar, adding layers to her evolving journey.

The expedition takes a riveting turn, trapping a Sea Whip in its lair. Alina's decision to kill the sea monster for its powers becomes a pivotal moment, showcasing the depth of her sacrifices. The surge of power, nearly overwhelming, finds a poignant rescue in Mal's embrace, unveiling the enduring strength of their connection.

Kirigan's struggle with the dark powers and his promise to help Safin find her friend David add complexity to the overarching narrative. Meanwhile, Kaz and his associates, including Jesper, Nina, and Wylan, engage in a heist against Pekka, culminating in a trap that tests the group's mettle and Nina's formidable actions.

The episode masterfully converges storylines at Black Veil, setting the stage for the next phase of the narrative. In Kerch, Matthias's burgeoning friendship with a fellow Fjerdian inmate introduces a subplot that promises to add depth to the unfolding events.

More about the crows than alina

I'm really not liking this season its focusing too much on the crows which is a while world after the shadow and bone series in the book. Blending them together isn't making sense it feels like 2 different time periods being forced into one.

I want to see more of siege and storm! However they have cut a lot of the story from the book to accommodate the story of the crows and its taking over each episode... the storyline is to patchy and hard to follow it is not enjoyable and I'm bored 90% of the time.

I really wish they kept the books separate and they could really flesh out the storyline of the books in each season.
