Too much

Warning: Spoilers
Ok, I gave this a 7 because the pacing was good and I was entertained the whole episode, and for the emotional conversation between Archie and his uncle but a) there are too many things going on and b) a worse problem, the characters are behaving like idiots.
Respect to a, you have: the search for Polly and what apparently is a killer trucker, a new cult in Riverdale, Kevin's depression, Archie and the grunt PTSD, dog fighting (Poor Vegas!), Veronica's war with her dad in Wall Street...oh, and Jughead, who was not in this chapter but it's chasing aliens.
B) Ok,, first the reveal "it was not a dog!" was used in another show I don't remember. Perhaps Sherlock. Then, Archie dreamt about WWII and dogs, so why was he talking normally, knowing who Bingo was, when talking with his uncle? Besides, Archie going berserker felt like a regression to "urban fighter Archie", something he supposedly left behind. But that was not so stupid like Cheryl going crazy again, now with a cult. And people following her and her former convict of a mother speaking of her sacred son. And even stupider? Betty. After being warned that she could be arrested for that, she impersonates an FBI agent again (with two accessories) and then he captures a killer...and keeps the secret. STUPID.
Also, obviously the big bad this season will be Bingo, right? Not the dog, the allegedly dead man.

I'm giving it a high rating. It's like the writers read reviews of viewers hating musical numbers and said to each other, you know what we need to do?? Add more musical numbers! This season has been a complete cluster. I wasn't being too critical because Covid and the fact this show doesn't talk about it which is a nice break... but at some point y'all have to pull it together. Give the audience a direction to look in. Because I'm not sure if we're hunting aliens or truckers at this point. It's like they have too much and not enough material at the same time. Dog fighting and new ministries. What? PTSD and Wall Street. Huh? Make it stop. And if you can't make it stop, please for the love of bacon, at least stop singing about it.
Back to being awful

This episode's production was FIRE

I think I should shout out the work of the production team on this episode. When Cheryl was walking in woods, her outfit and the environment were beyond fancy and reminded me of classic Blossom theme. Anyway, since 5.6 or something except Hiram's episode, Riverdale was going downhill. But, this episode was on whole another level than previous episodes. I felt intense and excitement and never got bored. Can't wait next episode.
Jumped the Shark
jmdanley29 August 2021
After an excellent episode, "Citizen Lodge," this episode aired and it was absolutely dreadful. Poor continuity issues from previous episodes, poor technical quality (looping voices shouldn't appear so obvious these days), what seems to be a lack of knowledge of recent history and so many little subplots initiated and resolved conveniently within the 42 minutes of film time that it was like watching 1960's TV series. With the usual ridiculous situations and obligatory musical numbers that has made this series infamous, it has not only jumped the shark, but it has also surpassed "Glee" in its last two seasons for sheer awfulness.
CW should pull this off the schedule to make room for a much better show, like "Little Lulu."

Wasn't terrible

It wasn't bad but it also wasn't good. There's only a few things i enjoyed, the coyote ugly inspired scene, moose being back, kangs finally being done and that's about it. I really didn't care for archie at all, betty's mental health is going way down hill and she needs to see someone, she still hasn't even faced her kidnapping by the TBK. I did like the whole light shining through the window at the end, paralleling to when betty said archie was her window of light in the dark but maybe it's implying that actually betty is archie's window of light. Who knows. It was a decent episode, but i've seen better, this is also the first episode i watched since 5.08 so.
Season 1 Vibes

Warning: Spoilers
I enjoyed this episode, it wasnt a slow burn like the previous couple of episodes. There's finally a reason for the singing, luring truckers in. I think the ministry thing is kind of boring and unneccesary. Cheryl walking in the woods with the lantern gave me the Season 1 Blossom Vibes, with her outfit and the setting. The chinsaw and the trucker scene, for me, was the highlight of this episode. More Kevin screentime which is good. Archie's storyline was also good, but same old, saving everyone. I don't know why people gave this episode a low rating just because Jug wasn't in it, or because Choni is not back. Just accept what you have. Anyways, I felt Riverdale Season 1 Vibes after watching this episode.
The tale of two cities, from which one wasn't there

Seriously.
What were Archie doing in trenches with guns from the World Wars?
What is Veronica doing with high-end jewelry in a city wich doesn't even exist anymore legaly, because of post-apocalyptic conditions?
How does Hiram's town not exist, but the same time everyone moved there from Riverdale, and The Town That Never Was even has a football-team?
Also, what's with Football Girl?
Also also: what happened to Ethel Muggs? Was she mugged, that's why she is missing?
And may I ask how suspecting trucker makey ANY SENSE? We know, Polly was kept hostage at Riverdale for TWO WEEKS. How this two fact makes any sense?

It was Good

The writing was great, but of course, 1 point off because I hate musical numbers. 🙄 (even if I liked the song)
I especially loved the window in the dark scene, and seeing how Archie is coping with his time (darkness) at war.
As for Kevin....he should be sitting in on those therapy sessions, as well.

Felt like this show was back to it's roots
ldamena26 August 2021
Why the low rating? Is it because Jughead wasn't in it? MEH I'm glad he wasn't. Or was it too Archie centered? Anyway after how bad the show has been the last few episodes(except for the Hiram episode) it felt back to form. Felt like I was watching the early seasons. This ep had the mystery and intense scenes Riverdale has been missing. I quite liked it.
