The end of season 5 was good, and comforted me in the idea, that it was indeed underrated. But season 6 has my personal inkling. The season 2009/2010 was another great year of TV for me. And even though there were few new shows I liked, those already existing had worthy new seasons. In ABC especially, it was the first year I watched and enjoyed, almost all of their shows. As far as Desperate Housewives is concerned, the first half of season 6 is the series highest point. The new family had a season 4 vibe, with a mystery that looked just as intriguing. And good actors, like Drea De Matteo. This premiere was exciting, and still a joy to rewatch for me. And even though it was the beginning of Katherine's downward spiral, after she was turned into a shadow of herself on season 5. The way she tried to rain on Susan's parade, is one of the strongest moments of the premiere. And kind of makes you hate Mike again now, too. Carlos niece is supposed to be teenage Gabby, but her insecure side is boring. And failed at making her look sympathetic, which also made you hate another male character, by putting her aunt between a rock and a hard place. In fact, all the male characters are loathsome this season. Both Orson and Tom live in la la land, while their wives are drowning. And even though Bree became the worst, with no chance of becoming redeemable again. You feel for her moral dilemma, and hesitation regarding having an affair with Carl, the dog... Lynette's doubts on the other hand, are very clear, and gave the actress good material to work with again. Now there is one thing I don't like about « Nice is Different than Good », and the episodes that follow. The fact that it didn't end with Julie's death, was a missed opportunity to do a pilot callback « on reverse ». Her own affair with the Boleyn father, would've worked as flashbacks addition, like they did with Mary Alice, on season 1. I know it would've been another tragedy for Susan, but the show was good at that kind of stuffs. And Julie was not that relevant after season 3 anyway... Speaking of which, season 6 feels a awful lot like a new season 3, with all of the teen dramas occurring there. Only this time, I like it. And love the little feud between Gabby and Ana, in this episode in particular.
