Another very strong episode.
Sleepin_Dragon3 May 2022
Whilst out jogging, Grace stumbles upon the discovery of young socialite Katya Bishop.

I thoroughly enjoyed it, well paced and gritty, this boasted a good storyline, some interesting characters, and somehow it managed to feel well established and settled.

Another nasty storyline, but perhaps a little less macabre than the first two episodes, I really did like the developments of Roy's character.

A good start, with a very strong, edge of the seat ending, I loved the pacing, and I really enjoyed the bromance between Grace and Benson. It produced a very unexpected outcome.

I really liked the arrival of Zoe Tapper, Cleo brought out a very different side of Grace, she actually made him smile a few times.

Arthur Darvill was terrific, one of the best things I've seen him do, such a sincere performance..

It's proving a winner for me, the best thing ITV have made for some Timex it's up there with Endeavour.

8/10.

Enjoyable if far fetched

I've enjoyed series 1 and this first episode of the second season. John Simm brings a lot to his role and is almost on a par with Lewis and Luther imo.

The story is interesting but terribly contrived in places. But the pace and character development keep it interesting and I'm looking forward to the rest of the season.

The best episode by a country mile!
bosporan3 May 2022
A much better story than the previous two, John Simm plays Grace more believably, still uncertain and grieving, but not brooding and sulking. This makes him significantly more relatable, a condition amplified by the addition of a potential love interest.

The plot is a little contrived, but well within the Overton window of acceptability, a marked improvement on what went before.

Definitely a murder mystery.

Warning: Spoilers
There are some enormous coincidences going on here. Grace just happens to be right next to where the first body turns up, completely unconnected to the others, except we find it isnt. A doppelganger twin who looks sounds and acts entirely like the original (no linguistic/accent differences, identical body shape etc). I know they are triplets, but that triplet thing was merely there to string the episode out another 20mins and has no bearing on the story. A murderer, who has never murdered before, but is still capable of carrying out several near perfect murders. Then, when he is insulted by a policeman, is capable of instantly tracking a lady who Grace has had one date with and creating a car bomb to try and hurt said copper. Just like that. I mean, it was one date, how sad would he have been?

It was all a bit too... glib, and easy.

Improving

An enjoyable episode. Yes, the show is not particularly original and the plot pushes towards the unbelievable but, unlike in the first season, it didn't quite cross over and held it together just enough to satisfy. Nicely acted by guest Arthur Darvill and John Simm and Zoë Tapper show some real chemistry in their interactions. Everyone else is good too. Once again, fine cinematography and nice to see Sussex University's distinctive architecture in one scene. After feeling disappointed by the first season I was heartened to see the show on the upswing. Let's hope it continues to improve.

Not Dead Enough
ctmhqrysf2 May 2022
When I was at school I was occasionally be told off for writing a story and to wrap it up ".... I woke up and it was all a dream"

I make a similar point at the resolution of this episode.

(Trying to make a point about plotting with no spoiler but I think other reviews have done that! )

Easy viewing
gerrymccaffrey3 May 2022
It lasts a little over 90 minutes, well presented and easy on the eye and ear. The brain best not get too engaged as the story does stretch the bounds of credibility.

Enjoying...and then
DrERH30 June 2022
Complex plot, strange coincidences, multiple threads. And then...old trope becomes even less believable and guilty party spills all in an unconvincing and silly ending. So unfortunate.

Unecessarily complex at times , but a creative concept!

Warning: Spoilers
I felt like the plot was unnecessarily complex, when it came to the large amount of main and subplot characters, their names , aliases , and family history .

I normally look up and simultaneously read full episode recaps , when watching shows , as I don't like to miss any details. This episode however , did force me to stop and rewind certain parts a few times , as the family history was so confusing ! I am impatient , so that could just be an irritant specific to me ? I'm unsure , but it took longer to watch overall, which I didn't like.

I honestly didn't think I'd like this episode , as the pace at the start of the episode, was too slow and the storyline boring. Once the pace picked up, with the revelation of the family ties , the episode became more interesting overall.

Disappointed
JinJin-547536 May 2022
With all due respect to John Simm, it was very boring and slow, unfortunately. The romantic story is too straightforward and awkward. Could not watch it to the end, and I do not plan to watch the coming series.

Not Dead Enough
Prismark102 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The episode begins with the dead body of a socialite Katya Bishop washed up on Brighton beach.

Luckily DSI Grace was out jogging nearby.

The suspect is her wealthy husband Kit Bishop.

He has all the hallmarks of being the killer. Kit took out life insurance on his wife, he has a past criminal record and he was seemingly having an affair with a young woman called Sophie Carrington.

Katya was also having an affair as well.

Later Sophie is also found dead. Kit denies any knowledge of his past criminal record and also taking out life insurance on his wife.

The police has trouble tracing Kit's movements on the night of both murders.

Maybe someone was trying to frame him up.

It is a good puzzler but also a preposterous story. It all hinges on Kit Bishop being a triplet who were all put up for adoption.

Kit lived a life of privilege and did well for himself. Another died some years earlier after an asthma attack. The third one had a miserable upbringing in the hands of an abuser.

He was already unhinged and became envious of Kit's life when he learned that he had a lookalike brother.

It is a kind of story that might work in a novel but did not cut through enough for me as the reveal emerged. It lapsed into silliness. I put this down to watchable tosh.

What an absolutely terrible plot
osbaba27 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The story is quite simply ludicrous. Once the DNA matched, it seemed like there may be twins. That would have explained all the inconsistencies in the alibi. But I thought that it would be a conspiracy between the twins. That's the only way this would actually have made any sense. But the given reason for the murders and the attempted murder (even more unbelievable) of Cleo is so unconvincing.

I read only one book by Peter James and didn't particularly enjoy it. Too much self pity. I haven't seen the other episodes. I'll try out one more and if that is bad as well, I'll just give up on this series.
