Sales of Whitney Houston's albums and singles have soared since news of her death arrived late Saturday afternoon, so much so that the late pop superstar's 2000 hits package, Whitney: The Greatest Hits, is expected to re-enter the album charts this week in the top 10.
Billboard is projecting that Houston's Hits package likely moved 50,000 copies in the day-and-a-half window between when news of her death was first reported and the close of Nielsen SoundScan's business week.
"In terms of sales impact, it won't quite be like Michael Jackson, but it will be big," Billboard's associate director of charts Keith Caulfield told MTV News of the spike in sales for Houston's albums and songs. "Most big pop stars have a perfect great hits and Whitney doesn't,...

Unless you've been holed up in a cave since January, it's hard to be shocked that the Black Eyed Peas, Kings of Leon, Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift are all crowding the tops of iTunes' year-end best-seller lists.
While the #1 digital-music store doesn't reveal actual sales figures, the Black Eyed Peas have a lock on the top of the singles download chart, hitting #1 with the inescapable "Boom Boom Pow," as well as #4 with the equally ubiquitous "I Gotta Feeling."
Rapper Flo Rida held down the #2 spot with his stripper anthem "Right Round," Lady Gaga was just behind with "Poker Face," and pop punkers the All-American Rejects rounded out the list with "Gives You Hell."

A few weeks ago, we predicted that Michael Jackson would be the top-selling artist of 2009. He moves one step closer this week. Sales of his "Number Ones" greatest hits compilation now total 1,619,000 copies, moving it ahead of Taylor Swift's "Fearless" as the top-selling album of 2009, according to Billboard. Add in the sales of other Jackson titles since his death, such as "Thriller," "The Essential Michael Jackson," "Bad," "Dangerous," and "Off the Wall," all of which still remain on Billboard's Top Comprehensive Albums chart and Jackson is well over 2 million copies.

Michael Jackson fans paid tribute to the King of Pop the best way they knew how last week: by buying his music. In the first full week following the death of Jackson at age 50, and with retailers fully prepared for the onslaught of buyers, the fallen pop idol sold an astonishing 800,000 solo albums, dominating the charts in a way not seen since his heyday in the early 1980s.
According to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan, Jackson's sales nearly doubled from the week before, with his music occupying all 10 spots on the Top Catalog Albums chart, led by Number Ones, which sold 339,000 copies, a 215 percent increase from the previous week. Unlike the reporting period ending June 28 (just four days after Jackson's death), this time retailers had a chance to stock up,...
