That didn't take long at all, and now my brain is officially f'ed

Warning: Spoilers
With every passing minute, I believed we were getting closer to unravelling the mystery, but by the time the credits rolled, I was much more perplexed than when I had begun watching. Those who loved the psychological suspense of "Dark" will appreciate this. Compared to the first episode, this episode felt much more polished. I can't think of another show that uses the fact that its characters speak various languages and have trouble communicating as a central narrative feature, so I'm glad to see it here. It enriches the experience but leaves us with a foreboding feeling since I can easily imagine the language barrier becoming a significant factor in a future conflict.

So far, the programme has had a feel quite similar to "Lost," and I wonder if it will borrow any ideas from that show. The hatch, in particular, seemed reminiscent of "Lost". If you enjoy mysteries and haven't watched "Lost," I highly recommend it. Thinking about it now, I should definitely give "Lost" another watch. Digressions aside, let's get to the things I noticed in this episode.

(Spoilers Ahead)

  • We see the ship being watched at the end and monitored in colour; does this indicate multiple timeframes? Or perhaps it's even more complicated than that. The story is set in 1899, yet a short Google search reveals that colour televisions didn't appear until the late 1940s, much beyond the time period depicted in the show.

  • Is it possible that the crew member's claim that the youngster is to blame for the deaths on this ship be factual?

  • I'm curious about the significance of the mysterious Triangle symbol that appears everywhere.

  • Is it possible that Daniel-the mysterious man who boards the Kerberos-is actually Maura's son or maybe her father? Or My gut tells me he's the strange kid, so I'm going with that. - Clémence is curious whether or not she has met Jérôme before. Is it just me, or could this hint towards something?

  • The only accurate conclusion to be drawn is that time travel, or timey-whimey events, are indeed taking place.

More suspense, more mystery, and fantastic characters
huggoyfm17 November 2022
The first episode introduced us to all the major characters (at least this far). This episode excels at delving deeper into the minds of these characters, all the while ramping up the mysterious elements. It keeps you on the edge of your seat wondering what's going to happen and clearly setting up the narrative for a payoff in later episodes like Dark did. The episodes certainly don't feel like 50mins.

I also feel like they're juggling the large cast much better than dark. There's no need to whip out a family tree just yet!

Music is fantastic. Acting is flawless. And the last scene?!?! I have no idea where this is heading but I'm absolutely sticking around for the ride!

Triangles

Warning: Spoilers
The Boy doesn't speak Eyk turns the ship Ada found dead

Slightly more confusing episode than the pilot. This is one of the first time where the review is just entirely questions.

What does Jerome have to do with Lucien? War medal and his fighting skill may indicate he's a veteran who may have served with Lucien?

What is the secret passage in Eyk's room? What was that messed up room below it?

Why is there a triangle everywhere? It's even on the Kerberos ship as well.

Why is everyone being watched? Something to do with Maura's father?

Why did Daniel kill Ada? She was actually somewhat sweet.

Maura says her brother sent her the letter and it's signed "Henry". Why is Eyk's letter signed "Eyk" when he was the one who received the letter?

By the way, everyone's performance is off the charts. All solid.

left me in shock

Warning: Spoilers
This episode certainly exceeded expectations and was much better than the first. Of course, the questions increased even more. However, the ending left me much more perplexed than the entirety of episode 1. More questions arose and some were answered even faster, such as, for example, how the captain's family ended up. Which leaves us wondering HOW did that tape end up there, could it be from any other girl? Could be... But not here, due to the magnitude of the creators, I'm sure there's some connection. Why did Maura decide not to share that she also has a letter?! I don't think she completely trusts the captain to the point of seeing him as a possible ally. By the captain's calculations, the company that owns the ships is also very suspicious. There's no profit with that second ship, he simply had the first ship sunk, he didn't even think of towing it. The entire crew might be against the captain on this one, but investigating the first ship was something I would opt for as well. The fact that strange messages arrive, not only how it would be impossible for ship 1 to communicate, but then the triangles. And why did the little girl have to die?! We follow a good flow here and growing!

In the contuinity of the first
badeclerck20 November 2022
The first episode was used to introduce the characters, context and main plot. This second episode brings down the tension. It is less dynamic than the first but remains just as qualitative and intriguing. It is, I believe, more of a transitional episode to refocus the plot directly, develop the two new characters and the interest they will have in the series. It serves at the same time to continue developing the characters presented in the first episode. We always stick to this concept that they're all running away from something. An element of their past, an element of their present or maybe their future.

Nobody seems to want to turn around, but we don't know why yet. Relationships and connections are revealed and are surprising for some characters. We have the impression to face a great game: the characters place their pawns as in a war. It's interesting, some scenes are disturbing in a good way. I remain rather disappointed about the announcement of the trauma of the captain in relation to my family, I think that we should have waited for a few more episodes so that we can continue to wonder about it.

Mysteries and confusions
AvionPrince162 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The atmosphere is there, the ambience also. But the story take so much time to make it interesting. A slow paced and we tried to know more about the boy and what happened on the ship and who locked up the boy on the ship. But we already know that man is on the ship of the commandant. We see also that the commandant see strange visions on the prometheus and he will tried as him to know more what happened on that ship. And we wondering also that man who get installed near the doctor who he is and what was his role on the Prometheus. And where are all the passengers of Prometheus? Dead? Alive? Where they are then? And Jerome happened to be not what it seemed to be.

An interesting episode but we dont learned too much about what happened on the Prometheus, the boy, the triangle object or the man who leaved the prometheus. The characters are not really deep and we see them just react about the current situations and their own problems. But nothing more. We are starving for infos but we dont have anything really to make us think or wondering. We just really passive and let the episode tell us more but it dont tell anything really satisfying in my opinion. But we still wondering what happened but we dont have much informations. So need to have more revelations surprises and more interesting characters. Its only the doctor who have an interesting story about her brother who was on Prometheus . And the spanish brothers who are not really priest and they are not brothers so we wondering who they are.

Good but really need more than that. Im starving and that was not enough for me. It tried to confused us but the episode is mysterious without really get me into it. Pretty superficial for now. Need to see more.

Paced like a documentary....
allnewsuperfake24 November 2022
...and while it manages to be extremly unsubtle it also fails to get to the point.

The big reveals are unsurprising, there are long scenes that should have ended on the cutting floor. People are having the weirdest dialogues that only the viewer can understand because he's got subtitles, and often even those don't help.

The soundtrack swings and misses constantly, but makes sure it is heard at all times, even when the ambience would have delivered a far better background.

Somewhere between long shots of people opening and closing doors, walking down corridors and staring at things all that was missing was a children's song so that we really, really get that a certain symbol connects all the dots of this big mystery... that unfortunately starts to lose my interest. It's a shame, because everything but the actual plot and the soundtrack is on point. Great scenario, nice shots, good performances, but so far it's all promising something way better than what we get.

Plot making less sense than ep 1
jcepitech17 November 2022
I had a hard time finding the episode 1 interesting, but the episode confirmed my fears: Characters, also quite well played, are dumb and they have dumb lines. The story isn't well revealed so, in the end it's difficult to want to know more.

I'll probably watch the episode 3 to give it a bit more opportunities, also because I don't have anything else left to watch, but I'm really not hooked.

On the good side, it's well filmed, the atmosphere is dark but not scary and having many characters talking in multiple langues isn't unpleasant and quite a good picture of the 19th century.

The musics and audio is quite good as well.

But that's pretty much it...

Episode 2 review.
kjjames8118 November 2022
Okay so the captain and few rag tag characters from the ship board the old found ship and go through each of the rooms, I am not going to tell you the rest as this could ruin it for you.

The I am going to do is tell you what I thought of each episode as I watch them.

Now again we meet the characters as we did in the first episode and find out a little bit more about them, with this one we learn about what they found on the empty ship.

In this episode we also get the first death of the series.

Again this I would rate the same as the first episode in style, pace and overall enjoyment.

Yes when this ended I did want to carry on with the series, so I did.
