Wonderful episode, without a doubt.

Plot Convenience, featuring dumb and incompetent characters: The Episode. That's what this was.

It's a massive surprise that some of these characters are "spies."

Other times, it's even more of a surprise when a character has no brain in their skull.

You have Marissa, someone who was groomed and honed to be good at her job by The Chairman from behind the scenes, which is more and less the purpose behind that, I'm assuming. If anything, probably more of a simplification.

Yet she isn't good enough at it to think of being extra cautious and paranoid to the point of going the extra mile(s) with everything, every little thing, in general, not only when a top-secret organization of trained individuals is after her.

You have her:

  • Not considering that Carmichael is leading her to a trap. You know, as she and Hanna are on the run and Carmichael was helping them from the inside. I don't know about you, but that seems like something important to consider a possibility, given the circumstances and context. But, no. She doesn't even consider the possibility that his cover's blown, that anything he says following the end of the previous episode could be what he HAS to say.

  • Not being extra cautious, or rather, cautious, and making sure she was by herself with no one nearby while on the phone.

  • Then, falling for the same thing as the first time. A second time. No lesson learned. Screw caution, screw using what should be in your skull. Screw going the extra mile of overthinking things because of paranoia: thinking outside the box.

Let's blindly listen to what Ethan tells you when you know people are after you, that he may already be compromised. So what if you're wrong? It's better to be safe than sorry.

All because of one word: PLOT.

But it'll probably be spoken through dialogue as the contrary, that she's one of the best agents, blah, blah, blah; that sort of thing, making you have to pretend that what you saw and what happened was some fever dream.

Then you have other examples of characters being dumb:

  • Ethan, not getting out of there once he heard that noise of Sandy showing up. After calling your wife, who didn't answer, no less?

Your wife, not messaging you, didn't set any alarms off, Ethan? Sure, you don't know if you're being paranoid, but why wouldn't your wife have messaged you by now? She's your wife. She wouldn't message you as you told her to unless something's wrong or something happened to her.

As if that wasn't enough, he had the gall (stupidity) to ask out loud, "Anne?"

Which was after calling her and her not picking up, and that was right before you heard a noise.

  • Anne, not sticking to the plan. And then, not getting out of the house as quickly as possible after Sandy rang the doorbell.

Your husband had already called you, sounded panicked, even told YOU not to panic, and then told you to meet him right now. You even said that he was scaring you. Yet you had the gall (stupidity) to walk up the door after the doorbell rang, step by step, then open it.

Why wouldn't you have the immediate urge to get out of there after that phone call once you heard the doorbell ring?

Why do characters in this show not have a brain? Especially when it matters the most?

One word: PLOT.

Let's get a round of applause for these three characters, ladies and gentlemen. Not only that: a round of applause for the writers. Oh, they're so wonderful.

Round Of Applause

Besides all that, there isn't much else to say about this episode. I thought it was around the same level as the first two episodes, which equals entertaining but could be better. The story is moving forward fairly quickly, and there are only three episodes left, so I'm interested to see how it all plays out.

And I wonder what will happen that leads to the flash-forward we saw of Abbas and Hanna in the premiere. So far, Abbas is safe. I'm guessing once Hanna comes back for him, she'll lead them to him. Or a little plot convenience will cause them to find him, like the CCTV camera footage of Hanna, and she'll have to save him, then they'll run away together.

Also, some questions still linger; no answers to those questions yet. So, I'll admit: I am interested to see how everything will progress and how it'll all end.

"3" Bunch of scenes: Hanna and Marissa version

Episode 3: Nothing memorable and of true importance. A sort of wasted episode, not ultra helping the plot. Just a bunch of scenes and a bunch of chases; that's what it was.
